About Chez Catherine
Chez Catherine is consistently rated one of the Best French Restaurants in New Jersey. It provides a wonderful dining experience from the warm greeting when you enter to the last sip of wine. This mainstay of Westfield, NJ for the last 38 years delivers quality cuisine and impeccable service.
The owner, Stephane Bocket was born in Dunkerque, France. Stephane was the Maitre d'Hotel for 12 years before purchasing Chez Catherine in 2016. His career spans many years at Alain Ducasse's restaurants in NYC and France and before that in a number of other restaurants throughout France.
The Chef de Cuisine is Christine Migton. Christine graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Her dishes revisit traditional French cuisine but use different flavors and tastes. She works to provide lighter and healthier ingredients wherever possible while maintaining that special French touch.

The restaurant is located in a Best Western Hotel with a separate entrance, but don’t let that stop you. The food was delicious -authentically French. The service was friendly and prompt. The decor is lovely -quaint old world French. The bread was the best I’ve ever eaten in a restaurant. The desserts were fantastic and the mussels were very very good.
What a remarkable restaurant! This is my second visit and certainly won’t be my last. Everything was prepared perfectly. Service was well timed. My only semi-negative is that the food is so rich, I find it hard to make it through the 3-course prix-fixe. Believe me, I’m not sure that’s a negative! Food prices are more than reasonable. Drink prices are extremely high, so be prepared for that. Cocktails are impeccably prepared.
We always go for Thanksgiving dinner with our family - 4 of us (2 daughters) and its always lovely and delicious... the new owner is terrific and engaging with the table and the girls....food is always delicious and prepared perfectly - cocktails delicious - excellent wine choice..one of our very favorite spots.
Not what it once was. Salad was dry, underdressed. Mussels were too watery, lacked a depth of flavor. Special entree, pork loin, had a watery sauce that had zero apple flavor as it was billed. Salmon entree was mediocre at best. For the prices charged, they gotta try harder, they’re reputation from years ago will only last so long.
Chez Catherine is a French restaurant with a limited menu. We had the filet mignon, sweet potato soup and salad. Although the menu is limited the food was fantastic from the salad to the entrée. Seating is limited and will require a reservation if you go on a Friday or Saturday. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone as the food is worth the drive.
Absolutely wonderful birthday dinner for the wife. Every bite, from the bread to the final dessert, was spectacular. I had escargot, which I've not had in years, and it was delicious. For my meal, I had scallops, and they were the best.
Wish I could go there more often!
Restaurant has been around since 1979 and there is a reason for that. The food is superb, excellently prepared and presented. The wait staff is attentive. We had a water glass accidentally spill at our table, and they could not do enough to assist us. The choices are limited but the restaurant is small, focusing on preparing a few seasonal dishes and one special, rather than providing so many choices that it takes forever to get through the menu. Liquor prices are high, but the selection is extensive for such a small restaurant. Overall, it was excellent.
I really wanted to like it here. But the food was just meh. There was a slightly musty smell when we walked in. The French bread didn't seem fresh. The salad was ok. The duck pate wayyyyy too salty with a stale ish crust of cranberry nut toast. The waiter seemed insulted I didn't eat more of the pate, instead of asking why. The duck breast and dessert were both delicious however, but we've been at better restaurants for the money.
What a fabulous luncheon. The French Business Lunch food was outstanding. The service was en pointe, and very gracious. The environment was very warm and welcoming, as was the staff. We even had leftovers, including their delicious bread. This was our first time at Chez Catherine, and we look forward to returning there, again, in the future. Four Stars seems to be the best rating the Star Ledger gives, however, we'd award 5 Stars. Many thanks, Laura & John
Outstanding food and service in a romantic setting; we had carrot & ginger soup, mushroom risotto, filet mignon and Dover sole (with table-side preparation), sorbet between courses, mixed berry salad and pistachio creme brûlée. Highly recommend the Dover sole! Pinot noir and chardonnay as recommended by the maitre d and both were an excellent pairing. Romantic ambiance, food was top notch, we will certainly be back.
Absolutely beautiful ambience, low key with the quiet elegance of being at someone's home. It was fun.
The soups are amazing, the escargot is always good. The bread was crisp and the service was incredible . The Dover sole was delicious and the raspberry soufflé and cappuccino delicious. Staff very friendly. I personally thanked the chef for the great job. My favorite restaurant!
Upon entering Chez Catherine you immediately feel that you are in a special place. The mood is elegant & people are speaking quietly. It feels a bit sophisticated. The new owners have updated the mostly French menu with delicious food options & a broad wine list. The desserts were spectacular.
Every time there is a change at Chez Catherine it just gets one step better. It is just impeccable French cuisine. I rate restaurants on Atmosphere, Service and, of course, the food. Tis place is a continuing winner. Bravo Stephen on the transition.

Needs a makeover badly. The food is traditional French and properly prepared, but certainly nothing special. The decor is horribly dated and, to be honest, the place smells s bit musty. For a $300+ dinner, I expected something much more.
Although the food was prepared well the upcharges for the pre fix menu were extreme also the owner also the waiter was nice but we asked for a port after dinner and to try to be funny I guess he said no I will bring you something else which he did I assume it was a dessert wine to compliment the dessert my wife had but we really didnt care for it , we wanted a tawny port.But I guess he felt he knew better then his customers. Hint give the customers what they want. also dinner for two with one glass of champagne and a $60 bottle of wine and one espresso along with the dessert wine we didnt like ended up being $303 not including a $60 tip . thats pretty steep for westfield nj next to a best western hotel.
We had a family celebration at Chez Catherine with eight of us and the food was fabulous. Every plate was a little work of art with strokes of sauces and accents of fresh fruits or vegetables. We all cleaned our plates! Mussels were especially popular with wonderful bread to sop up all that delicious sauce. The fillet mignon and the scallops were both perfectly cooked with creative sides like marble potatoes and avocado salad. The dessert special was a butterscotch mousse with roasted nectarines and the creme brulee was melt in your mouth wonderful. The gracious service completed the experience. My niece proclaimed it "a perfect meal, the best I've ever had!" Thank you to Stephane and the chefs for such a beautiful experience.
