Chez Catherine is consistently rated one of the Best French Restaurants in New Jersey. It provides a wonderful dining experience from the warm greeting when you enter to the last sip of wine. This mainstay of Westfield, NJ for the last 38 years delivers quality cuisine and impeccable service.
The owner, Stephane Bocket was born in Dunkerque, France. Stephane was the Maitre d'Hotel for 12 years before purchasing Chez Catherine in 2016. His career spans many years at Alain Ducasse's restaurants in NYC and France and before that in a number of other restaurants throughout France.
The Chef de Cuisine is Christine Migton. Christine graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Her dishes revisit traditional French cuisine but use different flavors and tastes. She works to provide lighter and healthier ingredients wherever possible while maintaining that special French touch.

Chez Catherine is superb dining. We each had the filet and it was perfectly cooked. The only issue we had was the service. Service staff were very friendly and helpful when they were with you. We were the first to arrive for the 8 pm seating and the last of that group to be waited on and served so the service was kind of random. There were only two of us. Staff kept walking by but we felt slightly ignored. Took awhile to be asked if we wanted a drink, etc. I guess I would not go back on a Saturday night . We never had this issue before so I will attribute it to the fact that every table was booked and full.

This restaurant continues to improve with every visit. And it is already the most outstanding dining experience in the area, perhaps in the State. Stephan has grown as a host and proprietor, contuing the tradition of Catherine and Didier, who preceded him. Dining here is a very special experience.

We were delighted to see the changes in the restaurant. It is brighter and more modern. The owner and staff are very friendly. They welcomed everyone warmly. The appetizers were delicious. I loved the salad. My husband enjoyed the escargots. Dessert was to die for. However, our main courses were good, but not great. My husband had the duck and said it was a little too chewy. My cassoulet was very nicely seasoned, but lacked continuity. The fish was tasty, the sauce too thin. And whatever vegetables were in it were not cooked enough.
Having said all that - the good overweighs the not so good. We would go back in a flash to enjoy other choices.

Disappointing. Not much to do with French food... The staff spoke French but that is about it. In summary, French food price for amateur cooking.

It was our first time dining at Chez Catherine and it was Valentine's Day. We were seated in the basement in a very brightly lit "wine cellar" room. For Valentine's Day, it would have been nice to dim the lights. Only one choice was offered on the prix fix menu for entree. It was Short Ribs. Since Valentine's Day was on Ash Wednesday, a fast day, it would have been nice to have a non-meat entree.
In any case, the food and service were excellent. I'd like to come back when there was a full menu rather than the extremely limited prix fix Valentine's Day menu.

Very good, near excellent experience. The food was very good, the fennel in the cassoulet was tough and difficult to cut with the knife provided.
