The owner, Stephane Bocket was born in Dunkerque, France. Stephane was the Maitre d'Hotel for 12 years before purchasing Chez Catherine in 2016. His career spans many years at Alain Ducasse's restaurants in NYC and France and before that in a number of other restaurants throughout France.
The Chef de Cuisine is Christine Migton. Christine graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Her dishes revisit traditional French cuisine but use different flavors and tastes. She works to provide lighter and healthier ingredients wherever possible while maintaining that special French touch.
Chez Catherine continues to be among our favorites restaurants. From start to finish, our latest meal was extraordinary.
Food and service outstanding as always!!
We really wanted everything to taste amazing for the amount of money they are charging but only One appetizer and both deserts were excellent. I don’t think it was worth $200 for two, sorry.
Wonderful food in a nicely decorated space. Come for every big occasion. The celebration is always wonderful.
The food was very god. The service could have been a bit better: we were left sitting without a menu for a while for some reason. It's expensive, but once in a while it's worth it.
The waiter/maitre-d was charming and the food and wine were excellent!
Amazing place to eat!
Hadn't been here for decades, but it was as good as it was on my last visit, more than 25 years ago!
Absolutely charming true French restaurant. It could have been transported from the French countryside. Food was delicious, service lovely, room an oasis of calm.
I expected a little more. The food was good, but I didn’t feel it was exceptional. It was really cold to sit by the window , very drafty. The place can use a lift, it looks dated. The clientele was dated as well - at least on the day we came. The wine list was really pricey, I don’t know if it’s overpriced, but the starting point is steep in my opinion. Overall, I don’t think I would go back as it didn’t really stand out for the price that we ended up paying
Outstanding service and delicious food. Would definitely recommend this place.
Everything was delicious and the service was great.
Classic French with great service, top tier food, and an amazing wine list that is not overpriced. Only about 10 tables in a lovely space.
Dinner was excellent! Service was great! Amazing night celebrating our wedding anniversary. Looking forward to coming back.
Hands down the best French restaurant in NJ.
Delightful, relaxing, elegant, superb from entrance to exit
Chez Catherine is our annual Anniversary celebration spot. The exquisite French Cuisine is absolutely delicious and expertly served. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It is very small and intimate, so reservations are a must. This is a winner!
My friend and I go to Chez Catherine for our birthday dinner every year. We are never disappointed in the food, the service, ....we love it all.
I’ve been wanting to go there for a long time. We went for my birthday. I am a fan of French food and thoroughly enjoyed everything. I took my mom and girlfriend, they are not as much into the cuisine as I am, but, both enjoyed their meals thoroughly. The service was exceptional and the ambience was quaint and intimate. It is an expensive meal, however, for that type of restaurant and evening, it was not out of line. I will definitely return.
We both had the prix fixe menu. From appetizers to dessert, everything was excellent. Lobster bisque and Prince Edward mussels , salmon and filet mignon, topped off buy the best chocolate mousse I have ever had.
Do not miss this experience.
Food was great, my wife duck was a little undercook and my dessert creme brulee crust was a little burnt but overall great experience
Perfect for Christmas Eve!
The food was delicious. Our waiter recommended wines for each course, which made the experience even better.
second time at chez Catherine. Everything is top shelf - great food and service.
A wonderful evening. Service, wine, food all impeccable. Not for everyday dining, unless you have a fat wallet, but would be my choice for any special occasion.
Delightful and very good food
While sitting In a dining room that only seats about 20, I could have been in France. The ambience and food did not disappoint. Timing was perfect as was the food.
Wonderful experience and looking forward to many visits in the future.
It is very expensive, resting on the reputation of its original chef-owner of many years ago. The food is well prepared, but the service is pretentious, slow and not attentive. Current (third) owner waits on tables instead of supervising what is going on in the restaurant. Need to have more staff to be in line with its pricing. Then, maybe it can be OK again like it was with the second owner.
meal and service was fine. At the end of the meal we asked for refills on 2 coffees. We were charged $4 for each refill. We were charged $4 for each of the coffees we ordered and this was the first time I can remember being charged for 2 refills. On a close to $400 bill I cannot see why they would ruin a good dining experience by being so petty to charge for coffee refills
We dine frequently in Westfield but had never tried Chez Catherine. Well if you haven't and you are looking for a great special occasion place you should seriously consider it. Service is professional and accommodating and the food was perfection from start to finish. I have never had duck breast that was better prepared. And the entire place including the men's room is absolutely spotless. It's not cheap but that's not what they're about. Don't miss this great local French gem!
Great ambiance, great food, great location, great service, great experience.
Excellent experience! Excellent food! We are heading back this weekend.
The meal was terrific.
I absolutely enjoyed my dinner. I worked all day at a craft show in Westfield, and this was my treat to myself to have a wonderful dinner. Everybody was kind, attentive and friendly. I not only enjoyed my own meal, I enjoyed watching the waiter prepare 2 dishes for the table next to me. I intend to come here for dinner again next year (we have the show every year at the Armory)
Thank you for a most enjoyable and delicious meal.
Great food but the atmosphere isn’t the greatest.
I have been wanting to dine at Chex Catherine for a long time. It was well worth the wait! Extraordinary!
Amazing to find a classic, almost retro, French meal these days. I had escargots, duck breast and creme brûlée. And an excellent wine and digestifs list.
For our 11th anniversary my wife and I visited Chez Catherine for the first time. Everything was perfect from the time we stepped thru the door to our last bite of dessert. We found the wait staff to be brilliant and a pleasure to converse with. The food speaks for itself, words will not do it justice. We will back back shortly!
One cannot say enough about the Magnificent food and how it is presentation... the staff is wonderful extremely friendly.
As usual, this was an excellent dining experience. The ambiance is authentic French and Stephane and his staff were attentive. My wife usually gets the dover sole and it was excellent. The prix fixe is a wonderful value which allows us to come here more often then only special occasions.
