Chez Catherine is consistently rated one of the Best French Restaurants in New Jersey. It provides a wonderful dining experience from the warm greeting when you enter to the last sip of wine. This mainstay of Westfield, NJ for the last 38 years delivers quality cuisine and impeccable service.
The owner, Stephane Bocket was born in Dunkerque, France. Stephane was the Maitre d'Hotel for 12 years before purchasing Chez Catherine in 2016. His career spans many years at Alain Ducasse's restaurants in NYC and France and before that in a number of other restaurants throughout France.

Wonderful anniversary dinner. We always go to Chez Catherine for big events in our life. The food was amazing. Just love the fois gras. Always done differently but each version is always amazing. The risotto appetizer was especially delicious. Dinner included a fish special with shrimp, scallops and swordfish surrounded by mashed potatoes. The duck l’orange was done to perfection. Dessert was a blazing cherries jubilee and the soufflés of the day (yummy strawberry). The restaurant is so inviting with the friendly staff and lovely decor.

The most outstanding dining experience my wife and I have ever had, and we have dined in over twenty restaurants in France, mostly in Paris. The owner was welcoming and had a magnificent sense of humor, likewise our waiter who seemed like an old friend. My wife relished the discussions we had with them as she got to resuscitate her fluency in French. The food was superb from appetizer (crab crepe) to our main courses: duck and veal chop. Flavor exploded from my entree as it looked more like a tomahawk steak and was a carnivore's delight. This restaurant in Westfield is the place where brilliant memories are made.

From the plus-perfect martinis to the unforgettable steak tartare to the ethereal dover sole Stephan Bocket's Chez Catherine remains the quintessential French dining venue in this area. Chez Catherine is our Go To restaurant for fine dining. We have been dining at Chez Catherine since the 1980's when it was owned by Catherine. After Stefan purchased the restaurant, we have continued. It's the best French restaurant in the state, and makes driving into the city unnecessary. The small dining room makes the experience intimate. The service is attentive and friendly, and Stefan and Milan have a great sense of humor. The menu is price fixed with either a 3 course or 4 course option. We usually choose the 3 course option. There is something for everyone on the menu, and the wine list is outstanding with something for every budget. Yesterday, we began with the Crab Crepe appetizer and the Foie Gras appetizer. Both were outstanding and the portions were ample. We chose a St. Emilion from the wine menu. My wife and I both ordered the Duck Breast. It was outstanding. For dessert, my wife had the raspberry souffle and I chose the Grand Marnier Panna Cotta. Both were delicious.

Chez Catherine never disappoints. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve last been here and we honestly don’t know why. The food is amazing and Stephan and the staff are so attentive and knowledgeable. We’ll be back soon!
