Cheri is a French spot in Harlem with a big back patio.
Nice dining experience. Went there for Mother’s Day and the ambiance reminded me of a living room. Really great. Place is small on the inside. The staff were attentive and food was great.
The atmosphere is excellent, and food is wonderful.
Authentic French menu with delicious vegan options! Most unusual and welcome.
Friendly, fun and helpful staff, beautiful garden seating.
This was our first time here. One of the best restaurant experiences we had in a while.
Pros: Wonderful, intimate and elegant atmosphere.
Beautifully set tables, you feel like you are in the king's castle.
Food was delicious, big portions, very fresh and tasty.
Very friendly and attentive staff, except for one.
Very friendly and cute chef who went around asking how did guests like the food.
Great value for the food. We are good cooks, foodies, and we absolutely loved everything we ordered.
Low music and mostly low noise level for Saturday night. We were able to have a conversation.
Cons: There was no live music as advertised. We were told that they have live music only when the garden is open.
Too many people attending to one table, which is a little bit annoying and kept interrupting our conversation. There was a mistake in the order, they apologized and brought the right dish, but the mistake wasn't fixed on the receipt. This was only due to several people taking care of us. I would recommend one single server, it's more personable and it avoids confusion.
There was a lady that seated us and she kept coming back every five minutes, interruption us in the middle of a conversation and asking if we need anything else, if we are ready, etc. For desserts, we told her we need 10 minutes to digest all the great food we ate, but she kept coming back and kind of got annoyed when for the 4th time we told her we were not ready. The restaurant is small and we know how to call the waiter. I used to wait tables, and you NEVER interrupt the conversation, you stand at the table for a couple of seconds and guests will stop talking so that you can ask them if they need anything.
These are minor complaints. We were very happy and we will be back.
Love the ambience and French cuisine. It was our 1st visit and definitely plan on returning. Kudos to Chef Alain for the classy, clean, and inviting décor and the upbeat mood at this welcoming restaurant! We didn't have dessert, but thoroughly enjoyed the wine, appetizers, dinner rolls, and main courses. Definitely worth the trip on a Thursday evening.
This is a lovely neighborhood gem. Although I live in queens. Definitely will make a point of coming back again.
Celebrated a birthday and this place definitely impressed us. Food was amazingly good and perfect portions. It was like being in Paris. I will be visiting again very soon!
Two of us shared appetizers and a salad before a 10pm show at nearby Bill's Place. It was the perfect pre-show meal. The service was pleasant, prompt, and professional. The appetizers and especially the salad surpassed our expectations! Will definitely come again before a show.
MO, Was great. Excellent service topped by superb food. An elegant evening.
Very intimate French dining at a delightful iconic Harlem venue. It was our daughter’s birthday and she really enjoyed the occasion.
Cheri is a lovely brunch location.
My husband and friends love the food, the ambiance, and the staff.
Really cute restaurant, and the garden is lovely even in the winter.
The only negative is the bathroom which is painted black. A little dark and scary.
Otherwise, amazing. I have been more than 5 times. Never disappointed
I would prefer to keep it quiet, this is a real gem that has stayed under the radar, and long may it stay that way. The food was one of the best french provencal I've had in NYC and the atomsphere is like sitting in a living room. A gem!
Great atmosphere but high prices for very mediocre food. I wouldnt go back.
My friend and I chose Cheri because it was listed as being part of Harlem Restaurant Week which ran from 1/22-2/9. In fact, my friend called the week prior to our visit to find out about the Restaurant Week menu and was told the items that would be part of the offering. However, our waiter seemed unaware of Restaurant Week. He said that the restaurant did have a "specials menu" the previous week, but it ended over the weekend. We were there on 2/6, so Restaurant Week was still in effect. But the wait staff was unfamiliar with the term Restaurant Week. I asked if the manager/owner was around and he wasn't, so we had to select from the regular menu. The food was o.k., but I've had better French cuisine -- and we were paying more for it that we expected to, although the regular prices are not bad. The waiter was very nice and attentive and seemed sorry that we had not been able to partake of the "specials menu," (through no fault of our own). The atmosphere is pleasantly intimate and relaxed -- we did not feel rushed.
always come back. never disappointed. this time tried Veal Blanquette, a veal ragout cooked in a white stock with carrots, a new dish to me (don't eat much meat). every bite was a treat. all the dishes were terrific.
We've been to Cheri twice for brunch and once for dinner. The food, service, and atmosphere are always good. The garden area is closed temporarily. I like the location...easy to reach by car or subway.
The service was excellent, and the food was very good. My wife and I had a good time. I totally recommend this place.
Cheri is magnificent,
Alain and his staff has always given great one on one welcoming. The atmosphere is fantastic, makes one feel as they are home. Each dish on the menu is delicious.
I recommend to anyone looking for a fine dinner and warm environment please go to Cheri
From start to finish the staff were attentive and charming and the chef comes and visits to check that everyone is enjoying their time. Classic French hospitality. And the dishes were expertly prepared - to quote a fellow diner "this bouillabaise is what you live for". I will definitely be back.
always a great place to visit. The service is attentive but discrete and the food is real french.
Definitely a place to visit. Great Brunch.
What a treat Cheri is! If you wish you could take a quick trip to Paris for brunch, this small, cozy restaurant in Harlem satisfies on many levels. The menu, though not extensive, provides some unusual and delicious selections. The tartines were our favorite with ratatouille on the side. Served warm, it is prepared simply so that every ingredient shines. Finish with the best
& lightest chocolate mousse you ever ate! All the while, enjoy the background music of the wonderful jazz trio. If your'e lucky, the charming Alain, owner and chef, will come over for a chat...the perfect ending to a lovely brunch.
Ambiance great, enjoyed the live music. Food was ok, service great, will return
What a gem! Came here on a whim and left delighted! Food, Ambiance, wonderful jazz trio and very friendly service. Feels more like a good friend's living room - that is, a good friend with great musician friends and who can REALLY cook. Can't wait to go back!
As usual Chery is a great place. The new menu is very interesting , my cassoulet was good , same for my five beef bourguignonne. Service always effective and kind.
Great food! I loved the garden and the very classy live jazz music!
I would give 5 stars but the service, even though it was good, it wasn’t enough. There was only one waiter for the whole room, so it took a lot of time to be served. We were not in a hurry and we like to take our time to dine, but it was a little too much. We started at 8:30 and we left the restaurant at almost 11:00.
This is a lovely, interesting neighborhood gem!! The food is delicious!!
What a gem! I just love this restaurant...The decor, the ambiance, the food and the service was just wonderful! I am looking forward to my next visit.
Could not have been more pleased with the food, service or the evening as whole
Amazing place for a great food
Super cozy cute place with a real personality
Well maintained and great staff
Cheri is simply a pure Gem in Harlem! The food is authentically French and delicious. We can immediately feel the care the Chef is taking in selecting premium quality ingredients. The decor is beautiful with attention paid to every details. The service is outstanding and friendly. In winter the covered patio is wonderful: a luminous outside feeling without the cold! 3 times in Cheri, so far, and in love for ever!!!!!!
Excellent food. Great live jazz band on October 14, 2017.
The food was delicious. My friends came from Vinegar Hill to check it out and loved it as well. I live in the neighborhood and have been here several times and it has never disappointed. I consider Cheri to be one of the gems in Harlem.
Wait staff was overwhelmed. Was seated 30 minutes before we could place an order.
My very fave restaurant in Harlem, or anywhere in Manhattan for that matter.
Love everything about this gem - food, service, atmosphere, etc!!!
Fun lively vibe. Great music. Tasty food - interesting menu.
I selected the place for my husband's birthday. While the ambience is nice and service staff friendly, I found the reservation process disorganized, and the food unexceptionsl compared to other comparable restaurants in Harlem. I called in advance if they can add a candle to my husband's dessert, but they forgot. The chef sat with and spoke to some guests not all and not us. Its unlikely I'd would go again or recommend.
It's good for something different, eating in the garden was nice. The service was very good, the food was so-so. My salmon wasn't anything special, it said it came w Spaghetti Squash & I got ribboned green squash & roasted potatoes that i would have asked for a substitute, since i don't eat potatoes.
Beautiful, romantic restaurant in Central Harlem. Cheri has a beautiful garden terrace in back, and a pretty, candlelit space inside. Food was good, too! Definitely recommend for date.
