Cherche Midi Ratings and Reviews
Beautiful restaurant! Gathered here with friends on Thanksgiving, and were thrilled with everything-service, food, ambiance. It’s such a cozy, beautiful set up with booths and very spacious. And the steak tartare is absolutely delicious! Looking forward to going there again.
I went here last week with a family member for dinner. It was midweek, and only 9:30, and I was actually surprised (and a little disappointed) to see how empty it was. There were only about 5 tables other than ours with people at them... maybe less.
The space is lovely, similar to other McNally places, with a wonderful golden lighting and plenty of rich red banquet seating throughout. Our food was all absolutely delicious, neither of us could say anything bad about it.
Our server was very nice, as well, but we were surprised when asked if we were ready to order that no specials were announced first and we had to ask if there were any. Oh yes, we were told, but the server couldn't really remember them, and put us on hold while they fetched the specials list, placed it on our table and left it with us so that we could read it and decide. I know some people might be irritated by this and see it as a flaw in service, and I suppose it would qualify to perhaps knock a star off of the service, but in the end, it didn't alter my life or cause my experience to suffer, so I still give an overall 5-star rating.
I really would like to see this restaurant stick around. Good food and nice ambience is not easy to come by, so I hope it can find it's way and get a better crowd during mid week times, especially.
I love this place for lunch (or brunch). It's quieter than nighttime tends to be and the service is great. I met a friend there for lunch on a very rainy day and ended up staying the afternoon. It was all very relaxed and enjoyable. Everyone was attentive and cheerful. On a gloomy day it made all the difference. And the food was quite satisfying to both our palates and mood.
This was one of my worst experience in dinning I can remember, the food was horrible cold eggs, coffee was cold , service was non-existent with a bad attitude, portions were very small. I would like to get a total refund. I know the other restaurants the group owns, and now I will most likely avoid them altogether.
From the moment we were seated the waitstaff was at the ready and continued throughout the meal to make our experience seamless. The food was divine, my husband had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly as he requested. I had fish which was also delicious and fresh. The lobster bisque was flavorful and not to creamy. My beet salad was perfectly plated thin slices of varied beets with a lovely dressing. Lovely even, great ambiance, so Keith McNally, every detail created a feeling of being in Paris.
We enjoyed it and would probably return, on both food and drinks. And the place has a cool, authentic, old school feel. But the lobster ravioli, which two of our three ordered, fell short as overly buttery and lacking any lobster flavor as a result. Bar provides an excellent backdrop for a photo, using a flash to fill the dark room.
I've been taking friends and family here for a few years now, and Cherche Midi has yet to disappoint. We've toasted birthdays, engagements, and reunions there, and it's always a lovely event. It gets a bit louder at dinner -- noticeable, but not overwhelming. If you get there early, grab a cocktail at the bar.
Very disappointing. They didn't have many items I saw advertised. The service was spotty at best and overpriced. I don't mind expensive if I get the quality in return. I am in this business for over 40 years. They staff seemed unsure and inexperienced and the food was just ok at best. Disappointed in Colemeco's recommendation!!!
The ambiance of the place is great, service was very attentive and food was quite good.
The down side was the size of the table was what you would expect for a sidewalk cafe. It would have been fine for one person, but 2 was pushing it.
As is the case in so many NYC restaurants, the price was exorbitant for a semi-casual neighborhood brasserie. If the prices were more in line with what is offered, it could be possible to go a couple of times per month, but this place, like many others in NYC seems to want to make it on a one time scalping instead of relying on loyal repeat customers.
If not for the lovely maitre'd, our evening would have been extremely lackluster because our server had no energy, no care, and no personality. She poured water into glass of champagne, could not explain why the rose she served did not match the rose indicated on the menu, and knew nothing about the ingredients of the entrees on the special list. However, the maitre'd saved the evening with his care and attention. As for the food, it is good but not great. The atmosphere is lovely, the seats are comfortable, and tables are set a good distance from each other. I see no reason to return because it is just okay, and very high-priced for a just okay meal and experience.
It did not taste and feel as French restaurant would be , the menu for restaurant week did not attract me to return. Salad for ist course then salad again for main course and usually 3 choices for dessert and they had only two not appealing ones. I don't know what's the deal with cramping diners so close in the corner when there was plenty of seats
I can hear all the complains of the next table diner. Service was slow and our waiter was not there as in not doing a good job no smile no hello no chitchat but we still give home the obligatory 20% gratuity.
