And you can hear people at your table
Meeting friends for brunch. Location was important as we could meet in the middle - classic French bistro Sunday brunch. I found everything " fine" . Menu as expected, service as expected. No issues at all, just don't need to go to Bowery fro brunch when I live UES. Plenty of "fine" brunch spots closer.
very authentic french bistro esque vibe...great service interesting food
Very poor service. They were trying to rush our table the entire time. Food also overrated
Always liked Mcnally's spots. From back in the Odeon days till now this guy knows how to do a NYC restaurant. Always feel comfortable going to any of his places. Food is consistantly good as well as the service. Went on my Birthday this time. Could have gone anywhere.
Always love this restaurant. Excellent food and friendly service if a little slow at times. Relaxed warm atmosphere. Kale salad, Farro risotto and pot de fromage (?) were all perfect tonight but the food is always great.
Ended up closing out the night. We didn’t even realize the time but the staff let us sit and talk the night away. Really delicious food, amazing service, great ambiance coupled with good friends made for a stand out night. Thank you, Cherche Midi!
Attentive service. Cosy
Delicious meal with great service and ambiance. We will definitely visit again soon.
We went with a group of friends during restaurant week.
The food was really good and the ambiance of a true French restaurant.
However, I guess because we were not paying full price, the waitress kept coming back to check if we would ask for the check and leave, which was pretty annoying (therefore the 3 star for service rating).
Prices are steep. A cocktail before dinner, with tax and tip, cost me 17 bucks.
Still, a nice place for a special occasion.
Chose tasting menu of rigatoni.
Avocado&citrus salad was great - delicate delicate that all came together - loved it.
Rigatoni - great textures, but the whole dish didnt have any signature - disappointing, bunch of great ingridients prepared well that were thrown together - no kick at all.
Dessert - disaster!
Cold bread pudding, which was by design?! I sent it back
Cheesecake was bland and uninsteresting, too cold as well - if that makes any sense.
Signature burger was great!
Checked it out for restaurant week and it was yum! The kale salad is amazing. Staff was friendly. Food was good. It was a pleasant surprise.
really enjoyed our Cherche Midi burger and great fries; save room for a fantastic chocolate souffle; round leather seating on left side of the restaurant near bar is cozy; best was the service, leveled our table without needing to ask, actually brought sweetener with the ice tea, a rarity these days, and friendly all the way around.
Was a bit disappointed at their level of service during this visit. Other time when I’ve fined there, the service was far better and impressive. This time the level of service was definitely a notch or two down.
Drinks and the ambiance were nice.
excellent French food, excellent service, very pleasant ambience. good for a date, very classy, informal, cool crowd, excellent cocktails. nice to bring visitors.
Lovely and delicious with a great staff
Cozy bistro with a european feel, good food, hip crowd, service was just ok...
Being a Keith McNally restaurant, Cherche Midi has the potential to be as good as Balthazar but it's missing the energy, the french brasserie flair and the baked goods!
Bring croissants to Cherche Midi! What's a french bistro without croissants at minimum!!
Food was amazing and service was just the right amount of friendly and knowledgeable!
The restaurant was close to my hotel and recommended by its staff. I especially appreciated that they take reservations for Sunday brunch. I enjoyed the ambiance, and the service was good. I ordered the Norwegian Benedict, which was good but not served warm enough. The smoked salmon was still chilled from refrigeration. Other than that, very tasty with an nice side of sweet potato hash. I would definitely return.
If you miss Pastis, CM is a great alternative. I love the decor, the bar is beautiful and they make a mean martini. I recommend the burger, one of the cities best.
Attractive French style bistro with good food and service. The atmosphere is friendly and this is a nice restaurant for a nice evening dinner
Exquisite. Couldn’t ask for more. Thank you.
It was a very cold December day when our party of four had a lovely brunch at Cherche Midi on the corner of Bowery and Houston in NOLITA. It was in an attractive structure and had stylish décor and attentive wait staff service. The dining room, with its bar and wine collection, pays homage to the brasseries found on the Left Bank. On this very cold New Year’s Day, I had a very sumptuous Sidecar Cocktail with just the right mix of cognac, Cointreau and lemon juice that warmed me up. Our first offerings were the tasty Beignets that melt in your mouth. We next had a colorful Salade Nicoise and the large Cherche Midi Burger, served with bacon marmalade, roasted mushrooms, aged Gruyère cheese and pommes frites. All in all, it was a good day to stay warm with friends in a leisurely retreat such as Cherche Midi.
I always enjoy Cherche Midi, the ambiance, food and drinks are quite good, a nice French bistro vibe for an evening with friends.
Whether it's due to the greed of their landlords or something else, New York restaurant customers suffer from an inflation rate that feels as if it's starting to rival the inflation rate of college tuition and medical care. Even that said, the prices at Cherche Midi seemed a bit on the high side for a neighborhood French restaurant.
Granted the neighborhood (the East Village/Lower East side) is a hot one. Even so, nothing seemed to justify the prices. Most of the food was authentic and well-prepared in the French style, but not especially remarkable. The service was OK for a busy Saturday night, although from time to time my dining partner and I had trouble flagging our waiter. The atmosphere is very French, but so it is at many other French restaurants in Manhattan.
A high point for me was the dessert soufflé. I chose the chocolate. Now that was something you don't find at every French restaurant in Manhattan. Delicious.
Every aspect of our dinner was perfect. The waiter was just the right balance of friendly and helpful (we were not surprised to learn that he was the senior waiter on staff). The bouef tartare, pate and foie gras were excellent. The cocktails were also amazing, and we found the perfect half-bottle of wine to go with our entrees. I can see this becoming a favorite spot.
We had lunch for 4 after going to the International Center for Photography right next door. We were even able to park right outside (1-hr metered parking). The space is big, with a vaulted ceiling and walls lined with wine bottles and liquor. All the dishes we ordered were excellent (steak-frites, avocado toast with poached egg, farro risotto and steak salad) and service was very professional without being stuffy. Our glasses of iced tea were regularly topped off without our asking. Delicious sourdough bread. Can’t wait to go back for Sunday brunch. Located across the street from the New Museum. A keeper!
We were in vacation with our teenager children.
Delicious! Great time!
