Chelsea's Chowder House
They made our night memorable. I thought that the note placed on the reservation were going to be overlooked BUT to my humbling surprised they did go above and beyond to make my boyfriend birthday one for the books. The restaurant & staff were so nice and knowledgeable. I have a special diet I fallow so they made sure to help accommodate my needs. Thank you so much and we shall be returning again! God bless
Food is overpriced and everything is ala carte. Menu is limited
We had a very nice day and stay over at the Queen Mary. Our dinner at Chelsea's Chowder House was wonderful. A great view looking out at the harbor, great service by the attentive staff, excellent food and even a few questions answered about ghostly activity aboard the ship. We had oysters, wedge salad, sandwiches (I highly recommend the lobster roll) and chowder. Thank you for a lovely evening.
I love the Queen Mary. I was a bit disappointing with my clam chowder. The flavor was nice but only had 1 clam. Salads are large and fresh. Veggie side dishes are fresh.
The food was very good overall. What made the experience a little disappointing was that we were celebrating my husband’s birthday. I sent a message to the restaurant and I also told the hostess when we arrived. She said she would tell our server to bring out a treat at the end of dinner and would keep it a surprise. The server didn’t do anything except give us the check.
The Chowder House was a a great find on the Queen Mary. The staff was great. We had a fire alarm go off in the ship and we had to evacuate. The staff made sure when we returned we resumed our dinner with no missteps. The food was quickly replaced, and made to order. The staff apology and made sure that we were satisfied. My husband who is gluten free had plenty of dinner options and best of all a wonderful gluten free carrot cake that he happily devoured.
This place is located aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach. Let me preface this by saying it is a heavily visited tourist attraction so I expected the prices would be a bit high. Trust me, that's an understatement. Now I don't mind paying a healthy check for good food, but sadly what we received was mediocre at best. The seafood cioppino had a decent starter base, but what they did to the fish and lobster in that dish should be criminal. The fish was reminiscent of wood chips and the lobster a chunk of inner tube due to being EXTREMELY overcooked. Also, for the prices billed, you would think they'd at least provide some bread or dinner rolls. I really don't feel I should be nickel and dimed $4 for bread when our check was $125.00 for three people to eat subpar seafood in a very casual atmosphere. My wife said the Shrimp scampi wasn't bad and I have to admit the shrimp and scallops in the cioppino didn't suffer the same masochistic treatment the fish and lobster did. I'm guessing the "chef" added those toward the end of cooking (properly). Lord knows why he destroyed the poor fish and lobster... but it's pretty inexcusable when you're billing for a fine dining experience.
Great service, good food. A bit pricey! Waiter was helpful and attentive.
Surprisingly good food great atmosphere and view!
The Queen Mary experience is always special and Chelsea’s did not disappoint. The fish was fresh(although slightly over cooked) and the service was great. The ambiance is always nice on board and the views were fantastic. The overall values was good but there of course is a small premium for dining aboard ship.
Overall our party had a great experience. The view from our table was perfect and the service was very attentative.
The place is said to be haunted. From the food and the ambience, this really seems true.
We didn't want to take a tour of the boat. The last at the ticket counter suggested getting a reservation at Chelsea's Chowder House to get on the boat. It was a great idea. We got to see quite a bit of the boat, and had a great meal to top it off.
excellent food, Stellar service. Would highly recommend.
The food and service was excellent . Would definitely eat there again should we stay on The Queen Mary again .
We had a wonderful experience and I highly recommend eating here if you’re on the ship! We booked a reservation through Open Table and had a beautiful, window-side water view table. Our server, Louis, was attentive, informative, and friendly. The food was FANTASTIC! The cod with asparagus was great, and the “avocado fries” appetizer was delicious! We will definitely eat here again if we find ourselves in the Long Beach area.
Our server was experienced, had perfect timing and simply made our visit outstanding. The food was so flavorful and delicious, made of quality ingredients and know how. The view cannot be beat. A perfect stop for lunch!
Very Good restaurant indeed. Great Food. If traveling to Long Beach, CA make this stop a priority.
We had pre-booked this prior to our one night stay on the Queen Mary on Saturday 18 May 2019. Our preference was to eat in the Sir Winston restaurant but realised it was not accessible for wheelchair users.
We knew that the Chowder House had mediocre reviews so we were prepared.
Our corn chowder soup was lukewarm when served.
My swordfish main course was very salty and generally over seasoned and the creme brulee dessert was only average and overpriced. The bill was presented prior to us receiving the dessert!
Our waiter failed to make us feel welcomed and valued.
This restaurant needs to 'up the game' and make the dining experience more enjoyable.
I had a visitor from Ohio and wanted to treat her to a special experience we started with the shrimp cocktail which was room temp and tasteless. Our server removed it from our bill. We then had the wedge salads which were ok but not chilled. Finished with the clam chowder soup which was delicious. Be prepared to pay for your bread which was very good. It was a mediocre meal and experience. Expected more!
It was pricey but worth it. We had a wonderful dinner and the service was great.
The website is out of date and the food was below average. The waiter was on the ball and tried to please. The blond manager had a horrible attitude and did not understand customer service
Mussels and chowder were excellent. Wonderful service and great view. Make your reservation via Open Table ahead of time to avoid purchase of an entry ticket to the Queen Mary.
Food was very good...but a little overpriced. Had a table next to a window and the view was outstanding. Service started out being fine, but the waiter got much less attentive during the course of the evening. Would eat here again but would not strongly recommend it to others.
Great food and a great view of Long Beach and Shoreline Marina
Food was good but way over priced. Service was not good at all. No drink refills and waiter only came by once while we were eating other than to ask if we wanted dessert.
It was great food service was a little slow, but was still very polite. They automatically gave us plastic straws that’s illegal but it’s a nice place
Average service for the prices charged, attention to detail is very minimum, service was not engaging, I wouldn’t recommend it if you are celebrating a special occasion, there are better restaurants close by that will provide a better experience for the process charged.
The Queen Mary is amazing just grab a glass of wine and head to other restaurant for lunch or dinner.
Nice food. Prices are high. Our server abandoned us. Gerard.
Historic ship (Queen Mary) list most of its luster.
The chowder house is on the Queen Mary oceanliner (stationary docked museum ship), and this automatically gives it a great environment, beautiful views out the windows, and a lot of charm. The decor is fun art deco and entertaining posters from the ship's time period.
The food was delicious and very well done, with its own unique spin on various dishes. Our family tried the ribeye steak, buttered asparagus, charred green beans, chicken pot pie, and salmon, and they were all very good. A little pricey, but nothing unusual for the kind of venue it is. I did have to wait for a while for my water to be refilled, but overall the service was very good and the staff quite helpful whenever I had a request.
I was very happy that we could make reservations through OpenTable, since I didn't know how busy the restaurant would get on a holiday weekend. Definitely recommend making reservations if you can, but you never know if there's an opening so drop by even if you don't have them. It's worth it!
My grandson stayed overnight on the Queen Mary and dined at the Chelsea's Chowder House. I ordered the lobster roll that came with a small cup of clam chowder and my grandson of course a burger. (He's only 8) My lobster roll was a lobster salad on a bun. It was good but nothing exceptional. the clam chowder was very good. The waiter was very attentive without being overbearing. The view from our table of the Long Beach skyline was fantastic. Overall I recommend dining here especially if you are staying on the Queen Mary. But order something more traditional than a sandwich.
Dinner there is a nice way to top off a tour of the Queen Mary
I would probably prefer this as a brunch spot. Considering the name, I expected the chowder to be exceptional. Unfortunately, it was rather bland and skimpy on the clams.
I had a great time with my friend as we celebrate her birthday. We were seated by the window which was what I requested. The waitress was very attentive but my only complaint is their main entree. I ordered the crispy skin salmon which came with shaved cucumber and pickled ginger. I don’t know if that side was meant to be the salad for the salmon. It didn’t come with anything else but the cucumber and pickled ginger which didn’t go well with the salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked but the side just destroyed it. For $35 that should have been a complete meal. The waitress did come out with a lovely red velvet slice of cake with a candle on it which my friend shared with me. Overall the ambience, the view and the service were great.
We enjoyed our dinner on board the Queen Mary at Chester’s.
Excellent food, good service on a very unique and special environment.
Excellent food and service, we are coming back for sure
Love it went there two night in a row great service & food Highly Recommened
The food was great, not sure of the "character" of the restaurant but had a good time and the service was great. It is more than a little pricey-$145 for 2 with drinks. I'm in Long Beach not New York City.
