Chelsea Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We had an excellent dinner. From the appetizer to dessert everything was delicious! Our server Stacy was very attentive and had a great personality!
Four of us stopped at Chelsea Tavern before a show at The Queen. We used a Groupon to save some money. No issues using the Groupon. Food and drinks were all good, as was the service. We didn't have any issues making it to the show as planned.
I was part of a group of 10 and had to book a separate party of 2 as the maximum number of guests OpenTable accepts is 8. The Chelsea Tavern accommodated us and a table for 10 was waiting when we arrived. Also, we arrived about 40 minutes early and were seated immediately - so impressed that the reserved table was ready when we got there. The food choices, quantity, and quality were excellent. We will definitely be back for another meal!
Food was inconsistent. Beet salad was delicious. Pulled pork sandwich was fatty. Crab panini was great. Pizza tasted like a lunchable. If you know what to order is very convenient and fast service pre-theater
Wonderful experience before a show across the street. Food was excellent, service was good for a very busy night. The staff is pleasant and friendly.
The menu is diverse, with many, many beers on hand. Wine by the glass has plenty of options.
They were only serving brunch when we arrived; so, our menu options were limited. However, I loved our waitress, who was very attentive.
I went to the brunch with some friends on Sunday morning. The place was dark and empty. I tried the Bloody Mary bar and it was disgusting. They left food (ie celery, peppers, and olives) out for anyone to touch/grab without proper utensils or ice to keep it cold. As we were finishing up, they tried to lite what I am assuming was a brick oven but the whole place started to fill up with smoke. They didn’t open a door or a window to try and get the smell out of the air. Thankfully, we were done eating and waiting for our bill as this occurred. As we left, the waitress was laughing saying she was “sorry for smoking us out.” We left the restaurant smelling of liter fluid and smoke. I had to go home and and change and shower before I went about the rest of my day. I will not be returning or recommending this place to a friend.
Went to brunch. We were early and it was pretty cold so they let us in a little before opening. Breakfast nachos and Monkey Bread were awesome. Staff was great and we had a lot of fun.
Chelsea Tavern is the 'go-to' place in downtown Wilmington. Food is always excellent and servings are large. Staff has always been great. The draft beer selection is awesome and they offer flights of five 6 ounce pours. On Saturday, you can make your own flight.
My husband and I were in Wilmington for a concert. We had reservations which was a necessity as people were being turned away.
We were seated in a timely mammer amd had the fun of being seated in a small private dining room with 3 other couples who were all attending the show.
The server was pleasant and efficient. She explained the specials and promptly took our order.
The choices were interesting which made a decision difficult. I ended choosing the baked chicken. My husband had steak. Both were delicious.
Dinner arrived in a timely mannerand we even had time for dessert.
I loved this venue. The food was tasty, the prices were fair and it was an overall fun vibe. We will be back.
Mediocre at best. Had dinner with friends. Two of us got salads with no dressing. I ordered a margherita pizza that arrived with two separate layers of cheese and very little basil. Tasted okay but wasn't what I expected. A friend ordered risotto, an expensive entree. Plenty of seafood but otherwise tasteless. Won't go there again.
We arrived early and were seated immediately. The wine was great, the salad was very large, and it was a half salad, and the pizza was delicious. The service was a little slow, but it was to be expected since there was a show across the street at the Grand. We have dinner here every time we go to a show.
Our food was excellent as was the service. We had a special Groupon coupon and the waitress was very helpful with her recommendations to get the most out of the coupon. Excellent place to eat before going to Grand Opera House.
Nice atmosphere and reasonably priced menu. My food was very good (eggs Benedict).
Beet salad is excellent.
We reserved a table for 3 since it is close to the The Grande and we had tickets to see the ballet at 7pm. Our reservation was for 5:15, and we got our food in a very timely manner and had plenty of time to have dessert, and get our seats at the ballet without having to rush at all.
Very tasty meal.
Always great food. One of our favorite go to places. Always a great selection of beer.
We always dine at the Chelsea Tavern before attending a show across the street at The Grand. This was the first time that we were seated in the wine cellar. It was a great intimate setting. The food and service was very good. We shared the hot crab dip appetizer. My husband enjoyed the enormous buffalo chicken sandwich and I had the Asian salad with shrimp. We will be back!
Always the best spot to get a drink & food before an event at The Grand Opera House just across the street. Their seasonal selections on tap are great & appetizers are generous. The entrees are always delicious as are the decadent desserts.
This was a busy night, so the service was slow, which is understandable. Everyone was there before the show at The Grand. I was disappointed in my risotto, as was our guest. It was a very small portion, but not very tasty. I just won't order it again! We go here before every show, so we will be back! It is better on a non-show night, however.
We set the reservation for 8 through opentable a few weeks in advance. When we got there we were about 12 in our group, they made no effort to switch us to a bigger table as we all were chair to chair at a round table made for 6 comfortably. Mind you the place seemed deserted. overall the waitress was pleasant and accommodating when they ran out of the pastrami one guest ordered, however 5 people ordered the crab Panini and 3 got sick. I had a burger ordered medium well and came out perfect, ate everything but the bun which I think was buttered and I do not prefer that. The crab dip was piping hot, but the dipping selections consisted of out of the box crackers and a couple pieces of crostini, its 2017 lets be more inventive. With that being said, we will be back as a work group and individual's based off everyone's feedback it was an enjoyable experience.
Coming to the Grand from the downstate beach area, we weren't sure where to go for dinner before the show. Open Table was the perfect way to preview choices and boy did we get this right. Fabulous wine, fresh, surprisingly great salad and the best oven fired pizza....and that's saying a lot given the amazing pizzas around the beaches. I plan to make Chelsea Tavern a part of any Theater event I attend! If you try it, you won't be disappointed.
Amazing food and service! Our waitress was super attentative. Great price for our meal with alcoholic drinks, appetizer and dessert. Really good for before a show at the Grand.
Quick dinner before seeing a concert at The Grande, across the street. We sat downstairs in the wine cellar. Service, food and beverages were all good.Appetizer, salads, entrees and dessert plus three beers were $75 - not bad. Brussel sprout appetizer was a bit salty for our taste everything else was very good.
My wife and I were in for dinner before a show at the Grand. Which by the way is directly across the street. We have dined at the Chelsea in the past and it was still up to snuff as a great diner spot. I had the NY strip steak which was fabulous, one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. Wifey had the roasted half chicken. She liked the chicken very much but was turned off by the mass of creamed carrots it was served over. A little much unless you really like carrots. Hey sometimes you miss. We both enjoyed the Brussel sprout appetizer as a start. We will definitely be back.
Made a reservation based on proximity to the Grand Opera House as we were going to a show there. Reservation was for 6, show was at 8, so we had plenty of time for a nice leisurely dinner. Or so we thought. Arrived on-time, was seated immediately, & within 2 minutes, Bob the waiter came over & took our drink order. UNFORTUNATELY, Bob was not our waiter for the evening. OUR, waitress finally appeared to take our food order about 20 minutes later. At this time we not only bagged ordering appetizers, but told her we attending the show at 8 across the street and were on a strict time frame. We never saw our waitress again, as runner's delivered our food. The tables on either side of us were seated long after us, had their drinks, appetizers, dinner, dessert, paid their bills, and left for the show LONG before we ever even saw her on the floor again. At 7:45, she finally appeared & we had to wave just to get her attention. She then asked if we wanted dessert. Biting my lip so as to not be extremely rude, I told her we no longer had the time, and could she please just bring our us our check immediately. Apparently she had no concern , as we did not get our check until 8:05.
Although what little bit of food we were able to try was indeed delicious, the overall experience was a nightmare. We not only should have been able to have appetizers, dinner, dessert and pay for our food within the two hour time frame we allotted but, due to our waitress' lack of respect for our time, we were only able to get entrees. Would have loved to try some of the yummy appetizers & desserts we saw on the menu. Needless to say we did not make it to the show till almost 8:30. Next time we'll save the money & time eating elsewhere
We stumbled across the Chelsea Tavern because my husband was looking on Groupon for someplace new to go. Our party consisted of our two children, my parents, and the two of us and we were ALL very happy! The crab dip appetizer was so good my parents wanted to take it home! The pretzel appetizer comes with a cheese to die for! Among the adults, our entrees included the risoto, steak, and duck and each of us was beyond pleased. Unique flavors, great portion sizes, and a cute and comfy restaurant. The day and time we went was slow and we nearly had the place to ourselves, but I can tell that it's hopping for the theater crowd and probably later in the evenings. Definitely worth checking out!! A little pricey for the regular menu prices, but with the Groupon deal it was a reasonable price for a nice, unique meal.
Great dinner and drinks before a show at the Queen. Also a solid beer and tap list. Will definitely be back.
we eat at Chelsea Tavern on Friday nights when we have tickets for the Delaware Symphony which is right across the street. It is casual, reasonably priced and food is good. We ate for the first time in their wine cellar(literally) which was a nice quiet spot with 4 tables. The service was very good.
Great spot for pre or post Grand theater eats & drinks, but definitely make a reservation because they get very busy before the shows! The food was delicious and the portions were large. Service was good, though a bit slow due to how busy they were. The selection of draft beers, ciders & mixed drinks was impressive!
Went for pre-symphony dinner on a Friday night. Surprised to see large number of occupied tables - enegetic atmosphere. Despite crowd service was good as was the food. Will return.
