First post-pandemic return to what was for years a favored spot. Disappointing to say the least. Arrived for our 6:30 reservation to be told we were being seated outdoors. At no point was there any indication in the reservation process that even hinted at outdoor seating - it is October! That was unacceptable, especially since a member of our party was a senior with health issues. We were given an indoor table after I objected. We ordered within 5 minutes of being seated - 2 sandwiches, a burger and an order of fish and chips. 50 minutes later, our food finally showed up. However, the burger ordered medium, was nothing but a pile of raw meat! Not rare, but literally nothing but raw meat, not even warm thru. Our waitress did secure a replacement but as we had theatre tickets, our member barely had time to wolf down about half the burger. Management did remove the burger from our tab. Overall, a very unpleasant experience for which we were assessed an automatic 20% additional service charge on our bill. One would assume that if if an establishment feels justified in assessing a service charge, they should be providing at least acceptable service. We'll be eating elsewhere in the future.
Our reservation was not honored. Several other parties had reservations for the same time and no tables were available for any of us. We left and had dinner elsewhere. Never going back here!
Knowing how crowded the Chelsea gets when there is a show at the Opera House, I made a reservation for 6:15 since the show was at 8. Arrived a little after 6 and it was about 20 after before a hostess ever even appeared at the desk. She couldn't find our reservation even though I had a confirmation number. Had me spell our name again, then said it looked like they seated our party already and there were no other tables available. Luckily someone was just leaving so I asked to have their table. She was hesitant but let us sit there. Service was unusually slow. We got our food with only a half hour before showtime. Waiter never checked with us to see if we wanted drink refills. Got the check and they are automatically adding a 20% service fee to the checks! I normally tip over 20% anyway even when service is lousy but I was shocked to see that they added it to the bill. Next show we will most likely go somewhere else. It's so loud in there you can't have a conversation anyway.
This is a convenient stop prior to attending a show at one of the venues in the street. Beer selection is great, cocktail program insured there’s always something you will like. The food is always good
Food was not as good as it has been. Waitress was not as attentive as previous waitstaff. Felt sorry for Joe - he was working harder than everyone else. Beer selection super, as always
My husband and I were going to a show and we wanted to have dinner
Food was good, service was great
This restaurant was a wonderful surprise. We were looking for an eatery near The Grand since we were seeing Thursdays show. The Tavern has wonderful unique Martini's and a very versatile menu. We dined on starters of Wings , Brussel Sprouts , Quesadilla , and then Caesar Salads, Quinoa w/shrimp and Turkey Reubens. The 4 of us shared and everything was excellent. We can't wait to go back again. And we will be requesting our server Q because she is excellent, checking on us just often enough .
We’re visiting from out of town. Sometimes you walk into a place and it feels right. The waitress was helpful and her food suggestions were right on. The mushroom soup and short ribs were just what we needed. Hope to return
The food was OK but far from outstanding. It was a busy night and the staff was hustling but it made for pretty slow service. Doubt we’ll be back.
As always our dinner here was delicious! This has become our go to place when seeing a show at the Opera House across the street. What started as a convienence, due to location, has become something to look forward to! We always love the food, drink selections and the service is always great! We enjoyed the special tator tot appetizer, my husband had a perfectly cooked steak, while I enjoyed the special pan seared scallops. We topped everything off with one of their desserts!
First time and enjoyed. Food was very good and so was service.
We had the coconut shrimp appetizer. Only 4 small shrimp and they tasted burnt. I had the Turkey wrap and is was good. Overall, ok but not fine dinning.
Great place for a pre-show meal. Our server was outstanding!
Great food! Maddie was a friendly & helpful server!
The food was ok. I was expecting a little higher quality from the menu descriptions. The service was pretty good for being short-staffed. It was a little dark and loud for a comfortable brunch. Would probably be fine for dinner and bar time. The thing that put us off the most was the 20% additional "COVID FEE". I was trying to find out if that was a normal thing in Delaware, as we are from out of town. I am hoping that the restaurant utensils, tables, etc. were being cleaned thoroughly before the pandemic. So I'm not sure of the charge. I hope it doesn't cause people to tip the servers less. I know they are struggling right now.
Our go to place. Always good food and beer selection.
We arrived at 1230 and did not get our brunch order for an hour! Our drinks also took forever. The food was great and our server was nice but 2 hours for breakfast food and drinks is not acceptable.
Tip should be according to service not automatic, this allows a server to choose when to return to the table.
CT continues to be a consistently good place to eat. Outdoor seating along the side of the building was very nice for a July evening with low humidity. Service was OK and I think the kitchen staff is a bit strained based on comments from our server. Meal was good but not quite as good as we have had previously. I had tuna and my husband had the seafood stew special. All fresh and cooked correctly. They are adding a 20% service charge to all checks which goes to the servers. It is called out on the menu so there is no surprise when the bill arrives. We were fine with that approach given the beating the food service industry has taken during COVID. Tip: Always order trio fries!!
Everything was exceptional
It was unbearably hot inside when it should have been well airconditioned. Food was less than average. Service was the only plus. 20% is included in the bill. No wonder.
Outdoor seating is a nice plus; recommend sticking with the basics here
Definitely a Tavern experience! The server we had was absolutely lovely and attentive. The manager was really a nice guy and did his rounds to make sure everything was OK! The food selection were OK and everything we ordered came out hot a fast! You must try the pineapple up down cake martini!
Our experience at Chelsea Tavern was disappointing. We were seated for our 10am reservation and placed our drink and food order in a timely manner. Shortly after a very large group (30+) arrived at the restaurant. We didn’t see our waitress or any of the wait staff for the rest of our meal — my filet was rubber, our waters weren’t refilled and never had an opportunity to ask for condiments. Our waitress was kind but she was set up to fail. The Chelsea Tavern management team did not properly staff the restaurant to accommodate the reservation / walk-ins.
Waited well over an hour for a burger and fries and the fries were undercooked and burger tasted like it was a week old. First time ever going there and would not go again.
Thank you guys! Can’t wait to see you again!
Crab omelette was no good
Our go to place. Always good food and great beer selections!
Everyone at Chelsea Tavern went out of their way to make our Mother's Day Brunch special, from the person who took our reservation, to the waite staff, to the owner, who personally came to each table & gave every Mom a $25.00 gift card. The food was outstanding as well. This has become one of our new favorite restaurants!
Pleasant experience overall
It's been awhile since we visited Chelsea Tavern and we should have visited sooner. The new menu and food was excellent and enjoyed the beer and wine selection. We will be visiting again soon.
GREAT food, service, staff and setting. I will be coming more often
This was my first time at Chelsea's and I enjoyed the food and we had an excellent server named Maddy. She was pleasant and informative when making drink and food selections. It was a beautiful day so me and my friend sat outside. The only down side was there were several people walking past asking for money. I know there is no way for the restaurant to stop this but it just kind of ruined the enjoyment of being outside and catching up with a friend. We will definitely be back but will definitely be sitting in another area.
the food was delicious, the service was great! definitely would recommend for brunch
My friend and I wanted brunch outside to enjoy the sun. I suggested Chelsea Tavern and she was game. She and I thoroughly enjoyed our food and the sun. We'll be back for sure.
Quinoa salad (add the salmon) is my go-to favorite and the Kennett mushroom soup was Delicious! Always a solid spot for any meal or just a great hangout. Joe & his team are always on it, and they're incredible community team players.
Good pub food, even better beer menu
Wanted to find a great place for Easter Brunch and Chelsea’s Tavern delivered.
Just OK Easter Brunch. The pancakes were nearly tasteless and they don't use real maple syrup. The sausages and bacon were good however. My wife's eggs Benedict had rubbery eggs . We won't be back for Brunch but may stick to dinner which is usually good. That is when they lift the automatic 20% service charge "due to COVID 19". Service didn't rate a 20% tip and unless you read the fine print on the check you wouldn't know it was there.
