Restaurant appears closed for renovations. Should not be in reservation system.
Worst experience ever!!!! Booked on Open table for New Year's Eve dinner for me and my partner. We showed up at the restaurant on time and the restaurant was closed. No sign on the door indicating close for holiday. Also OpenTable took the reservation as it was open. Literally the worst experience ever on the worst timing also.
My partner and I had to call 11 other places to try to get a table. I was planning to propose on the New Year's Eve also but it definitely killed the mood a big time !
We had an amazing supper at Chefbar. The four of us were celebrating the end of a major project and went out for a treat and couldn't have chosen a better place. The service was spectacular, the drinks were playful and tasty (probably too tasty!) and the food was delicious. We asked to be served the chef's choice of dishes and we weren't disappointed. And above all, it was great to be served by staff who are genuinely enthusiastic about the food and drinks they're serving. We were treated like royalty. One of the best overall experiences I've had in Calgary.
The food was amazing - definitely a hidden gem. Surprised not busier but glad we got in as its a small intimate venue.
I loved this little gem. Great food - pork belly was delicious - both full of flavor and crispy as it should be. The lamb was equally as good, cooked to perfection, not under nor over cooked, I was disappointed when I was finished! Unfortunately the service was below par but it may have been a one off situation since there was an event on the lower level going on.
The best. Hidden gem in the Beltline. Amazing food and wine
The food is spectacular, presentation is incredible and is well worth checking out
Always a great experience. The patio is a lovely spot during the summer and the dining room has a cozy atmosphere during colder months. The share plate concept works well and the seasonal rotation of ingredients keeps things fresh. Brice mixes up cocktails ranging from classics to original recipes. The Bouretto Sour and the brussels sprouts shouldn't be missed!
There was a lot to like about this restaurant, if it was just about the food and drink and ambiance I would have rated higher. There were two servers helping us, which perhaps sounds like a good thing, but in fact it created a lot of confusion for both. One was clearly more experienced than the other and was trying her best but she seemed to be needing to take care of all the tables and picking up all the slack where the other, more junior server was lacking. They were also both doing the job of bartender as well. We had to ask multiple times for things. After sitting there for close to an hour we had to track someone down to put in our dinner order as we were all very hungry by this point. One of the tables was very uneven and wobbly which made eating dinner challenging. There was a dietary restriction that the one server kept having issues with, she clearly was not familiar with the menu, ingredients, and didn't bother checking with the kitchen until the food came out wrong. We were there for a special occasion so I will admit I was disappointed overall, we were out to celebrate and treat our friend for her birthday and I was hoping for an much more polished experience. I would give it another try in a few months for a casual lunch or something to see if the service has improved.
I've been here on three occasions and enjoyed each time. Not equally, but mostly because the specials change. The scallop dish was my favourite and was only offered the once. An added advantage is the gallery downstairs. Very nice to browse after dinner or lunch, if open, and Wednesday Wine and Art evenings are worth attending. Very nice patio with a fireplace as well.
This was our 2nd visit to this restaurant and while still tasty it was not as good as the first time. Mainly because 4 items off the menu were unavailable (only 6:30pm on a Saturday night) and this impacts my review since the menu is smaller to start with. Also, they did not have any "special off menu items" available as the blackboard wall was sadly EMPTY! :( Our first time there we ordered mostly off of this handwritten wall and LOVED this spot. We did not stay for dessert as they only had one option as well that wasn't too interesting sadly. We will try again and give it another chance but hopefully they can bring back the unique features that had this place packed our first visit, only half full our second time. thanks
After eating an amazing meal (Brussels sprouts in duck fat! Ribs in duck fat! Poutine with duck confit!) my friend and I were taken by Colin, our server, for a tour of the gallery downstairs. We then danced until Colin got us our coats! What a night. It was great!
We were very impressed with the selection and the quality of the menu items. I am vegetarian and even though there were many vegetarian offerings already on the menu, the chef offered to make any substitutions I wanted on any dish. That is amazing. My husband had the beef tartare dish and found it to be quite succulent. I had the mushroom brioche dish with poached eggs and it was simply delicious. Great wine to accompany our choices. We will definitely return, what a gem of a restaurant!
Enjoyed great food at Chefbar - the Charcuterie, brussel sprouts and duck breast were AMAZING! Music added great energy as well. It's a tiny establishment (seats around 25-30) that has a great atmosphere. Highly recommend!
As always, very good!!
Just had one of the best good in Calgary!
Excellent service & excellent cocktail!
We went for brunch with our 1.5 yr old. Chefbar accommodated our request on our open table reso in getting us a low table so we could set up our booster seat. We ordered the Wagyu beef tartare, the prairie hash and the forest mushroom saute with poached eggs. I've had the tartare for dinner before and I love the way chefbar does it. The hash was 80% potatoes. There was maybe half an ounce of of pork belly, and we couldn't detect any of the other ingredients. I ordered the forest mushroom saute, hoping it was similar to the wild mushroom brioche toast that I've had at dinner. It looks fairly similar, but the saute, was soupy in consistency, and lacking in flavour. We were one of 4 tables when we walked in and 2 already had their food. Somehow It still took 40 mins to get our meal. This was especially frustrating as our daugher was getting restless and we had to inhale our food when it arrived so we could get her out of her seat. I'm really hoping that they were just having an off day and that brunch is normally better. I'd still consider giving them another shot. That being said, I've had 2 delicious dinners there. I highly recommend the tartare, the pork chop, the duck, mushroom toast, and the tuna crudo. Cocktails are inventive and delicious.
The food at chefbar is very good. Great location and has a great ambiance. The big negative is the terrible service. They seem to have minimal staff that are slow and don't seem to care. I waited over 45 minutes for a drink when there was only two other tables. Great food, but some of the worst service I have ever received.
CHEFBAR is located at where Canvas used to be, so the space is cozy and has a nice New York feel to it. The service staff is nice and food arrives promptly and we appreciate that greatly. However, the regular menu is not particularly remarkable as the dishes that we ordered feel like something we could have made at home. However, they were well done but nothing too special that we would recommend to our friends.
Went to Chefbar for Brunch after a 10km race. Walked in and found the decor very inviting. Small but quaint place. Place was very quiet with only one other table seated. Although the restaurant was not very busy our waiter was not very attentive and missed many of the basics. This sadly affected the overall feel for the place. The food when delivered was okay. We have been to other places that offered much more stellar food for the same if not lower price. Supper service may be different but as for brunch we will not be back. There are many other places in Calgary that serve much better food and provide better service for what I consider above average prices. Save your money and look else where.
Lunch with European visitors was excellent family style sharing; they were thoroughly impressed with the dining style, food and venue at Chefbar. Spicy Tuna Tartar on sizzling rice cakes was scrumptious; Seared Brome duck breast perfectly done. Shaun's plating presentation is always classy signature, along with his personal service and friendliness.
Highly recommend experiencing Chefbar.
My friend and I had a wonderful dining experience. We shared 6 different dishes which all came out individually. We never felt rushed and our server, Bryce, was wonderful and happy to accommodate our slow pace! Would absolutely recommend for both the food and atmosphere (just be aware the small quarters mean it can get a bit loud but if you're happy to go with it, it really wasn't bothersome). We also had a nice chat with Gerry and checked out the beautiful gallery & space downstairs.
We went for the All You Can Eat Ribs special on Tuesday night and were absolutely blown away. The meat was so tender and juicy and the three rib flavours were all so good! The value for how much food you get was unreal, and the drinks were really on point. Definitely planning on coming back soon!
The hollandaise sauce is divine! Golden yellow and delicious. I enjoyed my tuna bennies with the crispy potatoes. Haven't had hashbrowns that great in a long time. The other benny plate was exactly to order with no complaints from the chef. Third was just as happy and said the sourdough bread was amazing. Totally recommend! 👍
We've been wanting to visit ChefBar for some time and finally had the chance on New Year's Eve. We really lucked out when we found out it was a 9 course sharing menu. Honestly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had in Calgary. The presentation was incredible - from the soft shell crab in a paper bag to the lamb shank that came in a pot with a delicious puff pastry top. Chef Shaun Desaulniers does not disappoint. A very creative menu. I can't wait to come back again and this time enjoy the incredible outdoor patio with fireplace. A must try!!!
Lots of unique dishes. The New Year's Eve menu was fantastic.
Food was great but that's what to expect from chef Sean.
Dinner for 8 for a birthday party- perfect service, absolutely delicious food - all of it was fantastic--the tuna crudo is amazing. This would be a perfect place for a date and it was also great for a small birthday dinner. We'll definitely be back!
We ate here without knowing a thing about the restaurant, taking recommendations from online rating sites.
This place is amazing...I won't be surprised if John Gilchrist or avenue magazine eat here soon and give a raging report. The staff were so welcoming and attentive. The drinks from the bar are top notch! The food was way beyond our expectations. The beef tartar, the poutine, potatoe skins, the kale caeser salad and the rib eye were absolute stand outs. All six people at the table loved everything we ordered. Unfortunately we were gluttonous and didn't leave room for the s'mores....which smelled incredible!
So happy we took a chance on this new restaurant.
Dined here on a Wednesday night and had a very enjoyable dining experience. A few customers didn't have an indoor voice so I'm not sure if the noise level is this usually energetic. Our waiter was personable, knowledgeable, and attentive. My date & I enjoyed a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. As far as food - the Pan Seared Brome Lake Duck Breast was the highlight with the Tuna Crudo on crostini being a close second. The lobster Mac and Quinoa Nicoise were both OK. After dinner, we enjoyed touring the art gallery and had the privilege of meeting Gerry Thomas.
Had heard good things about this place downtown, so tried it out before theatre the other weekend. What a good choice! Cosy small room - though it can get loud if a boisterous group is in, as it was the evening we were there - with a great casual ambiance. Cocktails are terrific, and can be altered to order from the barkeep who is close by. The food was wonderfully tasty too. We shared kale causer, tuna crudo, duck breast and Brussel sprouts. Actually almost too much food for two if you want dessert too - its not cheap, but the value is very good here. The tuna was the standout in my view, but all were well prepared and interesting dishes. Highly recommended.
First time to try the place out after reading about in a couple places. Small location. It was quite as we were early and it was cold out, however it was full by the time we left as a DJ was going to spin some tunes . Although we didn't need one, would recommend reservation just due to size of space and not to be disappointed. Menu is setup nicely for sharing and trying different items. Certainly recommend and owner/chef checked in with us a couple of times during the evening. Servers were very attentive when needed. Lots of interest cocktails on the list as well.
Chefbar is a great hidden gem in Calgary. Intimate but fun setting with a bigger menu than you would expect. Food was great, cool vibe with the added benefit of being upstairs from the unique Gerry Thomas Gallery.
The former head chef from Belgo has this new smaller concept. Everything is high flavour and very creative takes on food. After dinner, check out the downstairs gallery for some interesting contemporary finds.
Shaun has a winner with CHEFBAR location. Family style dining to share and personal service mixed with the energy in the room on a Friday night. Upscale friendliness and class. Tour the GT Art Gallery is a treat after you order your wine. Will definitely be returning.
This was my second time at Chefbar and first time for lunch. Just like dinner the staff were awesome, the food excellent and the whole experience was perfect. They have struck the perfect balance between fine dining with interesting presentation and subtle flavours and a casual environment where it is still okay to have fun. Perhaps because it is a small venue, but it feels very comfortable.
I loved this place. Must have on the menu. Beef Tartar, whole roasted chicken and lobster mac n cheese. Amazing cocktails....it seem like their liquid chefs can make anything. Can't wait to go back.
Tried ChefBar today. What an amazing experience. Busy trendy spot with the best ribs I ever had! The chef came to the table and explained he slow cooked them in duck fat for 12 hours. They were fall off the bone. The tartar was great as well. I'll be back for sure!!
Went for brunch with a small group of friends, we were one of two groups of people in the restaurant. Our server was incredibly unfriendly. We had to ask for everything (water refills, cream and sugar for coffee, etc). He took away our coffees before we were done with them like he was trying to rush us out of there (again, the place was pretty much empty).
The food was good for breakfast, definitely overpriced for the quality. The kitchen seemed really disorganized as our group of 6 got our meals at different times, and the server came out after most of us got our meals to tell our friend that they ran out of what he ordered. Again, the food was pretty good but based on the price and the rude service I probably will not go back
It was a nice place, but I found it a bit pricey and the place was empty. Our kale salad was very tasty, but the pricing on beverages seemed a bit overboard ($12 for a mimosa!). It was nice to try a new place, but will likely not go back.
