The food is awesome, happy hour an affordable treat, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. There is a back area for larger parties.
Chef Tony is a true chef and it's a pleasure to walk into a restaurant, see Chef sitting down and then see him get up to go to the kitchen when you place your order. It's truly his spot and the weekend brunch menu is plentiful - and available until 3pm on Sunday. I was there with two friends and we all ordered omelettes - one friend asked for some adjustments to make her selection all vegetarian which Chef Tony happily obliged. I had a chorizo and caramelized onion omelette and our third friend had an omelette with crab and asparagus - all delicious.
I always enjoy a meal at Chef Tony's!
All the ingredients were fresh in every course, including the drinks! The trout and chopped salad were delicious!
Favorite seafood restaurant!!!! Can never have it to often.
Chef Tony's was outstanding. They have an absolutely great menu - dishes exceeded expectations. The seafood was fresh and superbly seasoned. The appetizers could not have been better - only wish we had left room for dessert!
I must admit I am a Chef Tony's groupie. You can never go wrong with this quaint, fun, yet quiet restaurant. The food is always VERY fresh and creative. The portions are generous. The staff is attentive and Chef Tony is dedicated to ensuring a grand experience.
not a very nice interior so would not recommend to friends or family
Had to plan a last minuet dinner with the family and found Chef Tony's. The place was a true neighborhood restaurant. The food was fantastic as was the service
Consistently always delicious. A true hidden jewel in Bethesda.
Excellent food, attentive service, quiet side room - perfect spot for a date. Nice bar in the front and bigger room in the back for parties of 4 (or more). Will definitely go back for any occasion that justifies a nice meal out.
Really excellent, fresh seafood at reasonable prices every day. Good-sized servings make sharing always a possibility. The fresh whole trout and "Bethesda's Best calamari" are standouts.
The food was great, the waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and on point, the atmosphere was cozy, but not too close, we would definitely come back again!
I have been to Chef Tony's on several occasions. Now we had a relatively large group so there was concern about timing etc. The food was uniformly excellent and the service was spot on.
Everyone working there all have excellent customer service skills. Our waiter did a wonderful job in hosting all seven of us. He was very patient. And he makes a mean Lemon Drop! By far the best crab cake ever! Kudos!
My family visitied Chef Tony's for Mother's Day dining. Chef Tony's is a quaint and cozy little restarant in the heart of downtown Bethsda, that offers VERY tasty entrees of FRESH seafood. Everyone in my party tried a different Entrée, and were ALL pleasantly delighted! If you love fresh seafood and good customer service, this is the place to go!
this was an awesome meal i had never been before but went there with fiends from san Francisco ,they were so impressed . We tried an array of appetizers and entries great staff recommendations who were not afraid to make the call on one over another .Really impressed with flavors almost liked the plate s clean . great mohito and tony himself was super gracious
We are so glad we found Chef Tony's. We are so tired of the usual restaurant experiences in Bethesda, I.e. over priced, mediocre food, impersonal and perfunctory service. Chef Tony is the exact opposite of all that. Tony came out and introduced himself, gave us his recommendations, and was a really nice guy. Our food was excellent, prices were terrific, and service was prompt and thoughtful. It is a quaint little place, nothing spectacular, which adds to its charm. We were so pleasantly surprised and look forward to going back.
The seafood is very fresh, as good as the fresh seafood in Europe. We had scallops - huge, fresh, very tasty with a cauliflower mash. Very good. The calamari starter was fresh but a little too salty. Try the Moorenko ice cream - creamy and not too sweet - a pleasant surprise.
If you have a taste for FRESH fish---Chef Tony's should be at the top of your list! They only serve fresh caught fish, and never frozen. Chef Tony is always there and listens to his costumer needs. Every time I've hit Chef Tony's, he's always in the kitchen cooking up a storm with a great big smile! :D
Best crab cake ever!
This is the place for a wide selection of tasty, well-prepared seafood. I've gone there a number of times and always liked whatever seafood I happened to try.
The salads are great. Try the anchovy salad which is unique, Any fish dish is cooked properly. Don't hesitate to order the sin cake. A bit more reasonable than many upscale restaurants in Bethesda.
Food was excellent. One of the best sauce I have had in recent months
Avoid the chain restaurants in Bethesda. Chef Tony's has better food and is a great value.
Usually my daughter and I go over the bridge to celebrate her April birthday, but this year her schedule didn't permit the trip. So we met at Chef Tony's, in Bethesda, which is a half way point for each of us.
We had fresh oysters, cream of crab soup (her favorite); she had the scallops on the tapas menu and I had the crab cake on the lunch menu. The fresh vegetables were great, a mix of shredded zucchini, yellow squash, and carrots which actually tasted fresh, not frozen!
The server was just excellent; obliging without being obtrusive. The chef and the servers obviously work as a team! Even tho' it was a rainy day, we had a lovely time!
I enjoyed my food, but the restaurant really lacks a "complete dining experience." The space just isn't that inviting and the staff seemed distracted.
Chef Tony's has a tremendous ranking in Trip Advisor for restaurants in Bethesda. My wife and I ordered a bottle of one of their "interesting" wines - a French white and it was a nice surprise. We both had the cod stuffed with shrimp and scallops and it was mouth watering!! Service was very good.
There was no apparent host or hostess and so when you arrive hopefully a waiter sees you. This isn't especially professional or welcoming. Also we were seated in the very front of the restaurant which has no atmosphere at all. There's a small fish tank and a view of passersby on the street, but that's it. We didn't go back beyond the bar area which was just behind us, though obviously there is dining room seating back there which may provide a different ambiance.
We took our daughter to Chef Tony's for her birthday dinner . The food was fabulous. I can't wait to go back again and enjoy some of the other menu items that look so good. Great chef!
Were there as a family on vacation, but there were others enjoying each others company as well.
Our Japanese guests and we were very impressed with the food, wine recommendation and slightly jovial service.
Always a great experience, good service and your feel welcomed. The seafood is their specialty so I generally stick with those dishes. My first time doing brunch so I tried the shrimp appetizer and then had poached eggs Chesapeake, which were pretty tasty.
Great seafood, good kitchen all around. Good value.
The menu was wonderful - so many choices - we all determined we must become regulars to try it ALL! Seafood entrees and specials delighted all in attendance. Great desserts from the pastry chef as well. We will be back!
Perfectly cooked Bronzino and crispy potatoes and very tasty Italian Paella, loaded with seafood and the tomato lobster sauce was excellent.
Our waiter was outstanding. Patient, he explained each dish and between the four of us we each needed to know about at least two dishes. He invited us to stay and talk after the meal had finished. I don't know if they do that if they are busy, it was cold and rainy last Saturday. I do think the surroundings could be updated, but then it might raise the cost of the meal. My dish was the Penne for Pencils (they donate some money I think $2 - to a needy school in Asia). Anyway it was delicious. To be honest I think my meal was the best but we were so busy talking and enjoying our friends company they may have loved their meals too. There are lots of Italian places in the neighborhood but I would recommend this one and go back.
Best ceviche we've had in town. If you like seafood, this is your place. Reasonably priced, high quality. Worth repeat visits. With wine, desert and a shared app, we were out the door at $65 per person. For the quality of the chefing, that is tough to beat.
Really a gem of a restaurant in all regards! Seafood stew exceptional and the mussels best we've ever had bar none! A repeater for sure! We can't believe we didn't find it sooner!
We have eaten at Chef Tony's many times and our experience on this occasion was the best so far.
We were waited on by Stan, who really did everything he could to make sure every aspect of our visit was perfect.
I started with my favorite appetizer, the mussels. Cooked in a white wine sauce with tomatoes, bacon, and white beans, it was absolutely delicious. My wife had the calamari, and it was very good as well. Highly recommend both choices.
I had a caesar salad for my next choice and my wife took advantage of a special salad they were offering, tomato, house-made mozzarella and watermelon with basil and balsamic vinaigrette. It was very good. The watermelon with the basil was a fantastic combination. Plus, the tomatoes were grown by Stan.
For our entrees, I had the Chicken Antonio, which was pan-seared chicken cutlets served with bacon, mushrooms, fresh spinach and a garlic cream sauce served over penne pasta. It is the best entree I have had at Chef Tony's.
My wife had the whole freshwater trout, which was split and then grilled. It had a great smoky flavor from the grill and the flesh was very tender and flavorful. Highly recommend both dishes.
For dessert, I had the tiramisu which was very good and my wife had the strawberry cheesecake, another hit.
This was a great night to go Chef Tony's. Parking is free on the weekends at the garage across the street, another bonus.
Can't wait to head back for another dinner.
Chef Tony's is a neighborhood gem indeed. Creative dishes nicely prepared. Friendly and highly competent service. Our most recent visit reinforced the fact that this is a place to keep on your list of regular trips. And half-price wine on Sundays, to boot!
Always a great experience, good service and your feel welcomed. The seafood is their specialty so I generally stick with those dishes.
