Chef Soon Contemporary Sushi and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Delicious sushi & sashimi! And, a nice selection of cooked and light appetizers. Focus at this restaurant is fresh fish and creative maki rolls. It is not a traditional Japanese restaurant by any means. However, one will find quality nigiri and sashimi at Chef Soon’s!
Very good food. Service was excellent. I only wish that Chef Soon would have come by our table to greet us considering it was a slow night and we spent almost $300. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday and ordered the omakase (which Chef Soon made most, if not all, of the dishes for us). With that said, it would have been nice for him to come by and say Hi.
Chef Soon's never disappoints us. So, once again, they did not disappoint us. They do two major things better than any other sushi restaurant in the area does. They serve fresh, high quality ingredients prepared with utmost skill and precision. They provide a good selection of higher end sakes. The latter is completely impossible to find in the suburbs and not all that common even downtown. The fact is, a former favorite of ours out on IL59 actually has lost our business to CS's simply because they no longer serve good sake. We feel bad having almost totally abandoning our friends at that establishment but Chef Soon simply does things better. But past lamentations aside and back to CS's, the wait staff is always friendly, efficient, and attentive, even when our two long term friends are not on staff, like this time. We really appreciate what they do for us each and every time. We are loyal customers.
Hey, get the feeling we dine a LOT at Chef Soon's (if you follow my reviews). Well, we do. What is there for me to say that I have not said a dozen times? In fact, I think that I may have previously reviewed a visit to Chef Soon's that happened AFTER this request for review. Sorry, my reviews often happen in clusters when time allows. So, since I've done it so many times before, I'll keep it short, sort of (uncharacteristic for me).
Chef Soon's is simply the best sushi spot in the "southwest burbs", maybe in any Chicago burb, perhaps even in the city, in general. We crave diversity and freshness in our fish since we mostly eat it "naked" (sashimi style). Chef Soon ALWAYS supplies this key element to our experience. He and his staff also produce some very creative specials, typically focusing on what is best and freshest on the menu that night...as any Itamae would. If you are a roll person, you won't be disappointed either. The sake selection offers enough variety and quality to make us happy (the sake is as important as the fish in our sushi experiences). Last, the staff is (mostly) highly competent and (always) personable; but then that is an easy one since we have been dining with two of their staffers for the better part of a decade at two (three for at least one of them) previous establishments. They are now old friends and we love their company.
Our first time at the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Our server was great. She was so helpful and attentive. I highly recommend Chef Soon's maki roll and the Hamachi Gone Wild roll. They were fabulous! The fish was so fresh and flavorful. We will go back!
Horrible experience. Came here just for a casual dinner. Got sitting at our table as shown by the host. Sat there for almost 10 minutes - no server or anyone came to greet or ask us for drinks or anything. After a while another couple came and sat at the table besides us. Mind this couple came almost 10 minutes after we sat at our table. They got a server who introduced, gave them water and hot tea and drinks that they asked for all this while no one has even cared to attend us. After a while a server came for us and asked what do we want - without even caring to introduce us or tell us what is good over here or anything that a normal server does. Left the restaurant a place where they don't know how to treat a guest. We didn't come here to have a free meal - we came there for a service for which we were willing to pay.
This it's one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Happily, my son chose it for his birthday dinner! It is the best sushi in the area by far. And if you are lucky enough to get Vicki, she basically orders for us! But any of the servers are knowledgeable, polite and efficient. Highly recommend.
This was my second time eating at Chef Soon's, and it was just as amazing as the first time. I love how fresh the seafood is. Nowhere else in the suburbs compares! We had the gyoza, scallops, special roll, and two regular menu rolls that I can't remember the names of. The tuna roll (Blue Tuna?) on special was so good! We ate it before I could think of taking a picture. We will definitely be back!
I have tried sushi restaurants all over the country and this is still my favorite. I have been a regular since it was just chef soon and two sous chefs at the tiny location inside another restaurant. Service and food is always impeccable! Get the green turtle roll!
This is a fabulous sushi restaurant. I eat here 1-3 times per week . I recently had the amazing OMAKASE experience, which is every course at the Chef's discretion. Omakase means "I'll leave it up to you". Each dish was expertly presented, unique, and delicious. It was absolutely amazing. We will do it again for my birthday next month. I recommend this experience for an amazing time and special occasion.
The noise level is moderate/lively/energetic. A very nice atmosphere. The outdoor patio now has a covered awning to protect from the sun in the warmer weather. It is an extremely popular place to be on nice days, even during the week.
Regarding the comments of the noise level & do not recall, I did not post those. This review was hacked & I was trying to remove that , but could not. I contacted Open Table, but they were of no help in removing the bolded comments underneath the stars.
To everyone who gave chef soon and staff below five stars must not have any idea what they are talking about when it comes to sushi or restaurants in general. We have been dining here for many years at least twice a month and have never been disappointed by the quality of the sushi or the service, and we have dined at some of the top sushi restaurants in the country. Five stars does not do chef soon justice!
