Chef Soon Contemporary Sushi and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Always a great meal at Chef Soon. You will almost always find Chef Soon personally creating and/or overseeing other staff members. Wide variety of appetizers and entrees. Friendly, attentive (but not overbearing) servers. Gratefully on Open Table to an available seat.
Everything is quality, including the disposable chopsticks. I had to ask for wasabi & ginger, then there was a snafu with other tables receipts and our waitress ( Asian Woman) left us unattended for a long period of time as I wanted to order more sushi but couldn’t. So instead we ordered entrees and my wife orders the NY strip teriyaki medium well and it came quite rare. They tried to make it right but as you know it never happens as it should be so the prime steak was now dry and tough. I would go back again even though this happened but would request either of the other 3 servers who I watched run their butts off.
Seated promptly when we arrived for our reservation. Server arrived soon thereafter and advised us of the "chef's exceptional offerings". Starters , main dishes and our "seconds all served at a casual but timely pace.....all the food was fresh, plated like a picture postcard and above all outstanding in flavors and textures. A grand slam for sure....we came from Elmhurst so we feel the trip was worth it HOWEVER we are not going to forsake our hometown favorite, The Sushi Nest :)
Delicious sushi & sashimi! And, a nice selection of cooked and light appetizers. Focus at this restaurant is fresh fish and creative maki rolls. It is not a traditional Japanese restaurant by any means. However, one will find quality nigiri and sashimi at Chef Soon’s!
Very good food. Service was excellent. I only wish that Chef Soon would have come by our table to greet us considering it was a slow night and we spent almost $300. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday and ordered the omakase (which Chef Soon made most, if not all, of the dishes for us). With that said, it would have been nice for him to come by and say Hi.
Chef Soon's never disappoints us. So, once again, they did not disappoint us. They do two major things better than any other sushi restaurant in the area does. They serve fresh, high quality ingredients prepared with utmost skill and precision. They provide a good selection of higher end sakes. The latter is completely impossible to find in the suburbs and not all that common even downtown. The fact is, a former favorite of ours out on IL59 actually has lost our business to CS's simply because they no longer serve good sake. We feel bad having almost totally abandoning our friends at that establishment but Chef Soon simply does things better. But past lamentations aside and back to CS's, the wait staff is always friendly, efficient, and attentive, even when our two long term friends are not on staff, like this time. We really appreciate what they do for us each and every time. We are loyal customers.
Hey, get the feeling we dine a LOT at Chef Soon's (if you follow my reviews). Well, we do. What is there for me to say that I have not said a dozen times? In fact, I think that I may have previously reviewed a visit to Chef Soon's that happened AFTER this request for review. Sorry, my reviews often happen in clusters when time allows. So, since I've done it so many times before, I'll keep it short, sort of (uncharacteristic for me).
Chef Soon's is simply the best sushi spot in the "southwest burbs", maybe in any Chicago burb, perhaps even in the city, in general. We crave diversity and freshness in our fish since we mostly eat it "naked" (sashimi style). Chef Soon ALWAYS supplies this key element to our experience. He and his staff also produce some very creative specials, typically focusing on what is best and freshest on the menu that night...as any Itamae would. If you are a roll person, you won't be disappointed either. The sake selection offers enough variety and quality to make us happy (the sake is as important as the fish in our sushi experiences). Last, the staff is (mostly) highly competent and (always) personable; but then that is an easy one since we have been dining with two of their staffers for the better part of a decade at two (three for at least one of them) previous establishments. They are now old friends and we love their company.
