Disappointed! The food and service were actually pretty good, but we were really put off by the wine list. It was way way overpriced and not that interesting.

Our second time in Hermosa Beach, we were excited to return to Chef Melba’s. The food is simply exquisite. Seriously, the combination of flavors and textures was so delicious, we were oohing and ahhing over every bite. We’ve been talking about it for two days, so we’re going back again tonight!

Food is good. Chef is nice and friendly. But space between tables is too tight.

Had paella. Not quite what I was expecting. I’ve never had a tomato-based paella. Couldn’t taste any saffron. Male waiter with an E-block accent is a little pushy. Always trying to upset (which I respect) but without tact. I’m sure other dishes there are better. I’ve heard it’s hit or miss depending on what you order. I apparently missed!

Service was slow; host was discombobulated. For a party of 2, entree for one person came out at least 15 minutes after the entree for the other so kitchen timing was off. Flavor in the paella was lacking. Scallops were good. I would not go back.

We keep coming back, because chef Melba always outdoes herself.
The Peruvian scallops appetizer is a favorite. This particular time we tried the venison which was marvelous. As always, great service.

We have dined here several times and it’s always fantastic. Good wines and amazing entrees. The Thai coconut curry with sea food is excellent. My dad had a steak and it was great too. Lots of seafood options. When you walk in it smells so good. Melba is great and always comes over to say hi. My dad lives in the area and this is one of his favorite restaurants. You won’t be disappointed!

Cafe Melba is a small, quaint place serving great food. It's a little crowded and noisy at times but the service and food is outstanding. The pan fried sole was generous and cooked perfectly and the paella is served in a bowl with some of the biggest shrimp I've seen out side Mexico. Delicious. Normally we would split one but watching the staff deliver to other tables was too tempting and well worth it. They often have specials that are not on the web or regular menu and these are always worth a try.

Great food! Really good! It's crowded. Tables on top of each other. Very noisy. If you're ok with that, the food is worth it. And it's not crazy expensive.

While the eggplant board was fantastic, the halibut and the scallop/prawn dish lacked flavor. Our scallops were undercooked, the food was only warm and the taste was indistinct. It was VERY expensive for a sub-standard and disappointing meal. I would return for the eggplant board and perhaps another appetizer but that's it.

very disappointed-took an out of town friend who loves really great food and restaurants-firstly the music was very loud and the service said she would turn it down but I don't think she did. I asked her to turn it down again and she said "it gets louder with different songs." Consequently we had difficulty have a conversation.
The food was in fact delicious-the service was really slow. She never came back to ask us if we needed anything. We had to flag her down.
We asked for coffee and she brought us what amounted to 2/3 full cup. Yes it was delicious and we asked for a second cup. We asked for the bill and it showed 2 coffees for $12.00 and another 2 coffees for #12.00 again!!!! So we paid $24 for 4 - 3/4 full cups of coffee!!!! We were shocked. I eat out a lot and have never paid that much for a cup-$6-BUT never paid for a second cup.
Will not return to restaurant Most ridiculous charges. I travel the world and this was outrageously unacceptable.

I'd give this restaurant 3.75 stars out of 5. Good dining experience with solid food. We had the mushrooms as a side dish and I ate the sea bass as my entree. My wife ordered the seafood paella which was closer to a cioppino, with red sauce covering up the rice. The toasted pretzel rolls were a nice touch. The restaurant is a bit on the small size which can be intimate however it definitely felt a bit crowded and noisy.

Overall I would definitely recommend eating here, the food was good and the service was pleasant.
