Haven't been to mavro in awhile(trying new places), but surprised at new menu. Food profile great and each dish layered with combinations that are new and exciting. tasting menu great and will be going back soon. The chicken dish was a great surprise so moist and flavorful and additions of the vegetable tartlet was great.

My wife and I have been to Chef Mavro now six times over the years on our visits to Honolulu.
The tasting menu remains among the finest dining experiences the two of us have ever had. The food is delicious, creative and unique; the wine pairings are always perfect.
This year Chef Mavro himself visited our table and spoke with us for an extended period of time during which we were able to express our appreciation for the meals he has prepared for us.
Dinner is expensive at Chef Mavro, but is a good value based on the dining experience the restaurant provides. When in Honolulu, do all you can to include Chef Mavro among your stops.

Thank you so much for such a fabulous meal! We added the Onaga and it was served table side by chef mavro himself! That was especially wonderful. The most amazing fish we've had in our lives. The wagyu was incredible and something I cannot describe in words. Desserts were something we've never had in our lives, the blend of ingredients...harmonious! Everything was so excellent from from start to finish. We were all so very impressed. Thank you so much for the delicious meal and warm service!

Overall, this was a fabulous dining experience. Service was personable and friendly while giving up nothing in attentiveness and professionalism. The food was exquisite, although if you are into large portions go elsewhere. I much prefer quality over quantity and the food at Chef Mavro definitely was of the highest quality. The room was quiet and comfortable as well, so for service, ambience and food this restaurant gets my vote!

We're from Texas and whenever we are in town, we always have to go to Chef Mavro. The food is always stellar and so creative. I love Chef Mavro's creativity with his dishes. It is amazing how he pairs interesting fruits or spices or rare vegetables and are able to pair it with meats, chicken or fish dishes. The ambience is nice and quiet. We hate loud restaurants. The service is always impeccable.

Amazing food ... we're on their email list so we got notification of a Fall Flavors menu that we were intrigued with. Some friends wanted to get together and so we suggested this place. They loved the food as much as we did. They ordered one of their signature dishes that I've uploaded a photo of with the Chef Mavro serving.

We always love it here and plan on returning!

Chev Mavro is one of our favorite restaurants. We have been customers there for the last 7 years. It is truly a dining experience with exquisite dishes that combine original presentation with combinations of flavors that make your mouth smile. Wine pairings add more pleasure to the palate. Honolulu's first-rate modernist cuisine, fine dining locale, capitalizing on local ingredients where available, bringing in special ingredients to enhance local offerings. The food lives up to expectations. If one is familiar with this kind of restaurant in other cities, the service may seem a bit intrusive, explaining more than necessary, but I wouldn't fault them for it, this being the only restaurant of its type on O'ahu. Best dish of the night: foie gras torchon with cocoa nibs and black sesame mini-malasadas. Save room for dessert.

This was our first visit since the new tasting menu was initiated. The menu was a true success. Chef Mavro simply gets better every time we visit. I would certainly choose to eat at Chef Mavro any time I am in Honolulu. Truly a special meal.

However two issues. One is that the tasting menu is only served in a small portion of the restaurant. The tables are not comfortably arranged, and we had to look at the back of two persons seated fairly close to our table. While we understood the reasons for the placement, it still felt crowded and uncomfortable. Even the servers had to reach over us to serve.

The second issue was much more serious. Chef Mavro has always had one of the best pairings we have experienced. We opted for the pairings. Twice the sommelier shorted the second pour because it was the end of the bottle. The first time we waited a reasonable time, but no service person appeared and we ate the dish. When it happened again, I was dumfounded. This is not the way wine service should be conducted. A real blemish on an otherwise excellent meal.

As usual, I had another great experience at Chef Mavro. The service was impeccable, as always. The food, memorable, elevated, and most of all tasty! Of course, it costs an arm and a leg, but you can see how much work they put in to prepare each dish. They can increase the portion a little IMO, however. I am not a big eater by any means, and 4 courses was just right for me. I would need to eat 2 more dishes if I was 20 years younger. Another ounce of protein won' t cost that much more, but it will make a much better impression. Also, since I can't finish the prix fixe menu and opted for the small plate menu, we didn't get the amuse buche and the pre-dessert. Unfortunately, those were the items that I'd pay for, but not even given an option for. Kind of tarnished the evening a little bit.

Amazing dinner. The 9 course tasting menu w/ wine pairing was a continuous stream of delights. The Hawaiian take on classic fine dining courses such as lobster and foie gras was refreshing and very well done. Details such as the crispy fried nori and poha berries made some of the dishes truly stand out.

The meal was certainly on the expensive side, but in line with what could be expected of fine dining in Honolulu.

Overall, highly recommended for a date night or special occasion meal, or just to appease the demanding foodie looking to reward themselves.

We come annually as it is a pricey place to dine, but the food is always great, the wine pairing is spot-on, and the service is excellent. They recently changed the service from selecting small plates off the menu or having the 9-course tasting menu. Addition to that, your entire table must have the tasting menu. I failed to ask if they would substitute dishes from the tasting menu as they had a couple of seafood dishes and my husband is allergic to shellfish. Otherwise, it is a great place for a special occasion.

Usually we only go to Chef Mavro for very special occasions since it is way up in the price range, worth it but we like to save it for those special times. We received an email from Chef Mavro that he obtained fresh, awesome Chanterelles. Aside from fresh black French Truffles or Italian white truffles, Chanterelles are our favorites but they must be fresh, clean and not wet. The ones that were presented to us before we actually ordered our food were perfect. The following were our choices and each one was magnificent. Chef Mavro has had a new chef who actually creates dishes in the style of Jean-Georges Vongerichten who is one of our all time greatest chefs.

Great place. Chef was founder of La Mer. We tried La Mer as well as here. Here is better though La Mere has better view. If you are looking for good food and comfortable environment.

By far the best dining experience in years. We opted for their small plates menu and picked our own custom menu consisting of five courses. We started with Misozuki Tofu with lychee and rhubarb off the vegetarian menu, which was phenomenal! A Gewürztraminer paired very well with it. Secondly, we had the black truffle risotto with fresh black truffles shaving from Australia. The Australian truffles were just as flavorful as the perigord truffles from France. The risotto wine pairing was the Masi Amarone which surprisingly turned out to be the best pairing of the night. As a third course, we ordered Chef's signature recipe and split it up for everyone to share. The salt crust onaga is the best fish recipe ever! The onaga, which is baked in a salt crust, served with a tomato-ogo relish was the most moist and tender bar none! The Banol Rose made this experience even better. As a main course, we had the Keahole lobster with long rice vermicelli, crispy pork belly in a tamarind-lemon grass broth. Another outstanding recipe! The lobster was paired with the Sixto chardonnay which was a spot on pairing. For dessert, I had to try the truffle ice cream which made my dining experience complete. I also tasted the halo halo and the mango chiboust which were just as good.
The staff was just as phenomenal as the food, which put the icing on the cake to make this one of the best meals ever.

Dinner at Chef Mavro's was nothing short of complete culinary bliss. Due to our careers, my wife and I live apart most of the year, so when we have a chance to spend some time together, we always celebrate by indulging in our favorite past time -food- and what is a nine course grand tasting other than indulgent? Frankly, it was so much more than just that. While each dish was absolutely delicious on its own, Chef Mavro's full tasting was an absolute master work of inexplicable beauty and decadence. Every dish combined ingredients in such a way that they all seemed to accentuate each other's best qualities. Each successive course would either stand in stark juxtaposition or flow in perfect harmony with he last- part of the fun was never knowing what to expect next, even though a full menu is provided.
While I'd love to go on, I'll concluded simply- if you love food, eat here and regret nothing.

Not in salubrious surroundings at all.
Very dated pretentious decor and smells of old food.
Food quality excellent traditional style- very small portions on the small plate menu- so one must realize that many plates would be needed to satisfy hunger- and this will cost much more than is justified.
Unpleasant olive oil.

Everything was amazing, from the farm egg, day boat catch, island chicken and goat cheese. It was a great first experience. Service was very attentive, and they made the night special with a surprise cake for the occasion. Will have to return for the truffle risotto!

Long time fans of Chen mavro since Casis days. Visited not too long ago and well I can't stop thinking about the amazing meal provided by Chef Mavro and his staff. I added the chanterelle risotto and I think I almost licked the dish clean. The wine pairings are phenomenal! Steve is excellent! The 9 courses are an experience I will never forget, hope to make this a tradition. Thank you chef!

Phenomenal service from a knowledgeable staff who were quick to answer questions and attend to guests. I tried multiple new things throughout the dinner and unfortunately did noy enjoy one, but that hardly ruined the experience and how quicly the staff noted my distaste without being prompted was impressive.

One of the best meals we have enjoyed in some time. We went with the new small plates menu and our party of four fully enjoyed it. (Small plates are perfect for TWO to share. The salted crust Omaha was incredible!! Having Chef Mavro present and serve it was extra special. I highly recommend for special occasions.

Food excellent but service uneven... Hovering to take my plate when not finished, wine server interrupting conversation. Nice to meet Mrs Mavro.
