Best restaurant in the West hands down. Service is excellent and detailed plots the food is meticulously made. The flavors all meld into one and magically separate where you taste the different notes.
Love that the place is not noisy and you can hold a nice conversation.
This is our favorite restaurant and we have been eating here everytime we come back to Honolulu since they opened.
It makes a big difference that Chef Mavro is always in the kitchen.
Always a pleasure to dinner next at Chef Mavro. The best wine pairing in the world!
Our table of eight's expectations were met! How does one really describe food like this - innovative, beautiful, gastronomically superb, each bite a delight! And let's not overlook the wine pairings. It's food to be savored and appreciated. Made for the best 70th surprise birthday party for my "sistah" !
Wow! The whole experience was incredible!
Many have raved about Mavro and I can see why. The food is notches above anything else in Honolulu, but the bar is low. It's clear the restaurant aspires to greater things (like a Michelin star), but isn't detail-oriented enough to get there yet. Some dishes on the grand tasting menu worked (the diver scallop) and some not so much (keahole lobster). The menu on their website should be taken as a guide, not the actual dishes served. The decor is dated and carpets need a serious clean, but the service and wine pairings were excellent. I recommend Mavro's to anyone wanting to try something a little different than your usual Hawaiian fare.
the most interesting kitchen in Honolulu, potentially the best. however the vegetarian menu (135 usd!) turned out to be a bad joke. 5 courses ridiculously inconsistent and so small as to leave you starving. after discussing it with the maitre (who specified that their menu is designed for those who want to eat little and stay light), I pointed out that even vegetarians want to eat and fill their bellies, since they are not perpetually on a diet. At this point the chef remedied giving us a tasty portion of local cheese, but this was not enough to make up for the mockery of spending $ 135 for 3 pieces of vegetables.
Incredible four course meal and wine pairing, perfect for a special occasion!
Food was not that good taste and all use simply ingredients. So I don't think it was worth the price.
It's a bit pricey. But it's worth it to enjoy the food and atomosphe.
New Year’s Eve tasting menu. We were accommodated early as we were still on pacific standard time. It is in an unpretentious corner building without stunning views but had easy parking.
Superb food. Portions were perfect. The service pacing was occasionally a bit slower than I am used to but my wife thought it was great.
Was one of those dining out experiences in which you remember fondly as one of the best experiences ever encountered with the service, food, fellowship, and courtesy of the front staff . Chef Mavro was kind enough to take a picture with us as we left.
Deserves at least a⭐️ or ⭐️⭐️ if they ever review Hawaii
Obviously our #1 now in Oahu.
It was nothing special
Wouldn’t waste my Money
The best experience was the service
The rest was below average
8 days before we were in a 3 Michelin star restaurant in Europe. This was more expensive. But we felt the value for money much better.
Great food and accommodating for alterations. Waiters make excellent suggestions and meals are flavourful.
We had a wonderful, delicious dinner at Chef Mavro! The cuisine was creative, combining many different flavors perfectly, and was presented beautifully. Chef Mavro kindly and adeptly prepared each course to accommodate our diverse eating styles for our party of 4 -- vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, and eats anything. Chef Mavro and staff also very kindly accommodated our change in time due to a change in our flight time. They kept us on schedule to make our flight that was right after our dinner. Overall, everything was outstanding. We look forward to dining again at Chef Mavro the next time we are in Honolulu.
Great food as always. The staff are very welcoming and friendly
I really wanted to love this place but it wasn't as good as I had hoped. I'd say two out of all my dishes were outstanding. For the price, I expect all to be equally as good.
My husband and I always go to Michelin restaurants for a treat when traveling, but this was disappointing.
We went for the Christmas Eve dinner. Food was cooked very well but not really up to the innovation and gourmet lever expected for a 500 USD dinner for two (incl wine).
The disaster was that we had to wait 30 min for each of the four first dishes even though we pointed out that we would have appreciated quicker service. The two desserts that did not require cooking was seved at a more normal pace. No compensation or inbetween snacks was offered. The girl in the coupe sittning next to us started to cry in disappointment and left half through the six courses after 2 hours of mostly bread and waiting.
Tast is not enough for the price...
The service was good.
Upscale prix fixe menu restaurant. High quality offerings. Many add ons will spike the bill. Service very good and attentive. Special occasion venue.
Had nine course meal. Amazing! Will personalize your meal if your a vegetarian. Great experience.
Nice restaurant, decor is a bit dated.
Chef Mavro's has been our once-a-year treat for my friend and myself for several years; this last experience was the most expensive (we chose the 5-Course dinner without wine) and the least satisfying for the following reasons:
- the seafood (scallop and lobster tail) and lamb were undercooked, nearly unappetizingly raw
- the portions of the 3rd course and entree and all sides were taste-menu size = very small
The rolls and desserts were excellent, but, not enough to balance out the sense of a meal that was too expensive and somewhat unclear in intent.
Excellent all around! The food and wine pairing was phenomenal. They are able to accommodate most dietary requests. I was able to get a customized pescatarian menu. They put the special touches on everything. The price tag is high but you certainly get what you pay for!
Top notch dining experience from start to finish. I had made a reservation back in August for a trip planned in December and wanted to eat here for a birthday celebration. I received a phone call mid September asking if we could move the reservation to the night before or after, I told them this would be fine and they asked me if there was a specific occasion for our reservation and I told them it was my birthday. The night we went in we were immediately brought a glass of sparkling wine and thanked us for moving our reservation. Chef Mavro then came out and explained why they had to move the reservation and thanked us. This is exceptional service when they remember a change made 3 months prior! The tasting menu was perfect and it is ice to see a tasting menu that you have choices so you can taste lots of different things. I would highly recommend Chef Mavro coming to Honolulu and will definitely return.
It’s very rare that such a high end restaurant offers a vegetarian menu. This is the second time we’ve treated ourselves to Mavro’s cuisine and it was as impressive as our first!
Not for the budget conscious, but it’s worth splurging on.
Absolutely the best dining in Hawaii!
The food quality is not up to the prices standards, however the service is top notch.
My fiancé' birthday
Great interesting dishes. Awesome service. Nice atmosphere. Expensive for the portion size but expected. You won’t go home full, but you also won’t be hungry. Would be great for valentines or an anniversary dinner
The four-course Anniversary menu and the five-course menu were outstanding. Complex tastes and textures, varied course by course. Nicely served at a leisurely pace. Chef Mavro (the man, not the eponymous restaurant) was very welcoming as well.
Excellent food and service perfect for a celebratory evening with friends. Flavors, presentation, and taste were outstanding. Each course wowed! We will be back!
Exceptionally delicious dining in a less than a mile from Waikiki.
Definitely a great neighborhood gem!
Exquisite food in courses with thoroughly enjoyable wine pairings. Service was perfect and friendly. Delightful surprises in local favorites. Every course flavorful, balanced, and aromatic.
Outstanding combination of French technique with fresh Pacific ingredients. Elegant and friendly service. The wine pairing is intelligent and tasty. We picked the 4 course menu so we could order the onaga supplement, it was quite possibly the best fish we've ever had. A lovely place for a birthday dinner.
The Chef’s Grand Menu was amazing. The service very professional. Highly recommended.
we came here for my aunt’s birthday, everyone got the 4-course prix fixe and i got the wine pairings with each course. it was absolutely delicious! the atmosphere is very intimate and quiet, it’s definitely a unique experience dining here. we had donato as our server, he was very nice and knowledgeable on everything. the connoisseur who poured the wine with each course was very informative on each of the wines. they even brought out a custom happy birthday dessert for my aunt at the end which was very special! since this is more of a special occasion destination, i don’t foresee myself coming here very often but i definitely would come again! highly recommend.
I hated the initial decision at check in to decide between which course menu you wanted to eat - this decided on where you sat in the restaurant. It was really off putting and not a nice intro to the place. We did the 5 course with matching wines and honestly we were disappointed. The dessert was by far the most disappointing part - fruit was not ripe and it was not enjoyable. The food was nice - but there wasn’t a wow factor for us. And we spent $500 which is a lot of money! There was no cocktail menu as they prefer the pairing wine option - but it’s strange if you want to sit at the table and have a drink first - so we ordered a glass of champagne - which was $25! If you didn’t pair the wines - the wine list was very unimpressive. I don’t think there were more than 10 different wines on the menu. There is a lot of competition in Waikiki and we wouldn’t return back to this restaurant.
Outstanding, 5 star level food and service. All staff was professional and knowledgeable regrading the amazing menu.
