The Cheeky Monk is a cozy bar with a large list of Belgian beer and finger food. The inside of the bar is dimly lit and full of large booths and high top tables, exactly the kind of European pub atmosphere many diners are familiar with. The large bar dominates the back of the room, with a huge tap with numerous of beer available.
The food menu at The Cheeky Monk is relatively light, with the emphasis being on the beer. Diners will find, however, certain Belgian classics available to eat. These include bangers and mash, lentil curry soup and several versions of the iconic Belgian waffle including sweet and savory versions. The Cheeky Monk has an extensive beer selection, with over 100 beers available both on the tap and in bottles.

Loved the beer selection and special glassware was the best!
Waitress was surly when we arrived, even though the place was empty and mellow. She warmed up a bit over the course of our stay but wasn't especially friendly - although she made good menu recommendations. Food and beer were good but portions of both were small given the prices.
Always a great atmosphere at the Monk. Food was awesome and waiter was funny and attentive.
The Cheeky Monk is a place I go for its beer selection. The number of variety of Belgian brews on tap is truly impressive. Their food is good as well, but more kin to bar food than fine dining. I will say that I had the Abbot burger on this last visit and it was outstanding. My wife was taking bites from my plate all night instead of eating her steak (which was a little tough).
This is a Belgian Beer Cafe so why have you limited your recommendations to only wine?
We enjoyed a dish of mussels and bangers & mash. Both were very good.
The menu choices were unique and oh so tasty! We ordered salads and enjoyed them with Belgian beers on the patio. Service was fantastic--friendly and prompt--yet they let us linger and enjoy the evening without feeling pressured to give up the table.
Very expensive for little portion. We were at this restaurant when it first opened a couple of years ago and will NOT go back for another try.
We have been to the Cheeky Monk a number of times. Food is good and there is a fantastic variety of beers. I recommend it.
We were pleased with the friendly and welcoming reception (thanks Sibylle) and the helpful recommendations by the server.
Prompt, friendly service. The food is ALWAYS fantastic. We've been to this local a few times since they opened and it's both time and money well spent for a meal.
Enjoyed the options so much we had to come back to try some more beers. Brought my mom, who is belgian, and she was very impressed with the selection of beers (and specially that they had many on tap and served in the appropriate glass) and the mussels. (although the portion was small compared to what they would serve in Belgium. Overall a great experience, good service, great location, lot's of options of food and beverages and great with the kids!
This place is best if you are going for beer and fries. They have a good beer selection and very greasy, yummy fries. The rest of the food...not great. The service...marginal. Probably wouldn't recommend this place for much other than the above.
Great place! Lot's of options of beer and they are properly served in their glasses. Food was also very nice (although we just had appetizers...) Services was impeccable. Will definitely go back!
It always amazing me that the focus with a resturant isn't on the first impression. The host staff should not just be a pretty face, but one with a service mind. We were greeted by 3 hosts & hostess at the door. The male host was good, we requested a warm table after coming in from the storm, he passed the menus to a female hostess who seemed a bit confused and was not friendly at all,she took us in to what I believe to be the coldest area of the resturant.(all glass area). We asked if there was something else.Low and behold the next choice was one table away from the fireplace, in the center of the resturant. Very nice cozy spot.Everything else went great. But honestly not sure I'll return to be "greeted" by this type of attitude.
There were 4 of us and we all enjoyed the new beers we tried. The food was so so. Reuben had small portion of meat and sauerkraut, but lot of dressing. Shrimp salad was good, and not too much dressing. Spaghetti Bolognese was average.
Good food, great atmosphere, super beers! Decided to take out of state friends there prior to the UND/DU hockey game and they loved it. Will continue to support this establishment!
Eat here all the time. Go for the great beer but the food is always tasty.
Took our son and his girlfriend to Cheeky Monk for his birthday. He ordered the mussels-they were excellent!!!! Pairing of beers with meals was fun and right on track. Great place for food, atmosphere and location.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. The staff were very helpful with their extensive beer list of Belgians, and the food was good. Happy hour goes till 7, so the appetizers turned out good as well.
By the name of the restaurant, you can tell they specialize in Belgian beers. They have recommendations on the menu like some restaurants have wine. The food was excellent, I had bacon gorgonzola mussels and french dip. Excellent!! Service staff was very attentive without being pushy. All around a great place to have a nice meal. Prices aren't bad either, 10-16 for entrees.
Our family traditionally goes out to dinner Friday after Thanksgiving. We have gone to several places around Broomfield/Westminster and this is the favorite of our out of towners. Those in our group from Seattle commented several times, they wished there was a Cheeky Monk in the Seattle area.
My husband and I regularly dine at Cheecky Monk, we love the Steak Frite Salad!
The service was good, bartender had a ton of tables so was doing the best he could with so much. The male hostess barely looked up from texting on his phone to seat us and pointed at a high chair to my husband to grab for our child. My husband grabbed it and he said oh turn it upside down for the seat for the infant and tossed the menus on the table and walked away. Since we sat in the booth by the door in the bar we observed that he immediately picked up his phone and resumed texting. I was disappointed as a first impression of this place (we brought my parents that night) so hopefully they will come back again, because we, before this dinner, had always enjoyed this place.
Large selection of beers. Our waiter was very helpful giving us suggestions from the menu which were all good.
The food was interesting. Not the same fare as most. The Rabbit stew was divine and the Bangers and Mash was spot on.
The beer list is quite extensive. However, one down side is the drinks are grossly over priced!! $17 for a pint brewed right here in Denver???
Great decor, attentive service, excellent beer selection.
We had a great time. Excellent service (wish I could remember the server's name). GREAT SELECTION OF BEERS. Descriptions of same helped me choose two that I really enjoyed-- perfect picks. We'll be back. This weekend, in fact. And again next month when some friends from Colorado Springs come up.
Very disappointed in the food and the small untasty portions. All meals at our table were very average taste and poor presentations--felt like food was just put on plates without regard for any appeal. You don't have to be a high end restaurant to make your food look good. We had a party of six, and we could not rave about the food as we left still hungry and dissatisfied. Those that had beer said it was good. Atmosphere fine and would say this place is more for enjoying beer and appetizers. We won't return, unfortunately. We eat out at least once a week at and $ to $$ retaurants and very rarely are we disappointed. This was a bad choice on our part.
If you're a fan of Belgian beers then this is the place. The selection is outstanding and you really can't pick a wrong beer.
The food is "meh" at best. For the prices, I'd expect a little more from them in the freshness and flavor department. The menu raves about their frites. McDonalds has better fries than they do. I just don't get why they love to tout them when they really aren't anything special.
The service was just fine. They weren't outstanding nor were they horrible.
So basically, this is an average pub with great beer, below par food and average service.
Great beer selection.
Great if you are a beer fan and great food if your not!!
Loved the beer selection! Will be going again
The selection of beer is very good. I was a little let down on the food however it could have the choices made that night. Service could have been better. We waited almost 20 minutes just to get the credit card processed. A little slow for me on the service.
Outstanding, upscale pub experience. Enormous beer menu with some very unique brews. The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and excellent helping customers find a good beer match. We also asked our waiter to suggest a beer to pair with our dinner orders. He was spot on which made our meals even more enjoyable. The food is a bit heavy but very good. The menu has the usual pub fare with some unique offerings and enough varity to please everyone. Our dinner companions are recent transplants to Denver and know exactly where they will be taking visitors.
Tasty pub food, but not too many healthy choices. Beer samplers were fun for the beer drinkers in our party.
good food, and great beer selection. however, i thought it was a bit pricey - four beers, an appetizer, and two meals and that set us back $100. i expect that if i'm going out to a fine dining restaurant, not a pub on the outskirts of town that has a nice selection of beer!
1. Easy to get to
2. Plenty of parking
3. We had reservations o there was no wait
4. Waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable
5. This restaurant is known for it's Belgian beer on draft. It does not disappoint. They have an outstanding selection, The beers are pricey, but then they are imported from Belgium. Servings are on the light side, but most a have a high alcohol content 7% and above.
6. The food was surprisingly good! The artichoke dip was homemade and flavorful. it came with pita bread and vegetables for dipping. Perfect for two. I had the mussels and frites. Delicious! Came with fresh bread for dipping and a sauce for the fries. My wife had a chicken and pasta dish which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved the chocolate marti
Good fun place for a casual or nice dining and / or drinking experience.
the service was kind of slow and there was only 1 server and it looked like he also took care of the bar. The place was pretty empty and it took forever before our table was approached. I came here though because I really love water zooi and haven't been able to find it here in COlorado so I was excited to try this one. The food was EXCELLENT and I LOVED the Water Zooi!...It taste better than mine, and that's saying ALOT because I make an awesom Flemish stew/soup.
We Googled "mussels in denver" and found Cheeky Monk with its full menu page of preps for Mussels and Frites. We were pleasantly surprised by the large selection of craft draft beers - even a very special stout not available anywhere else in town. We took a booth in the bar, had some fresh apps, the mussels, and a fun beignet dessert w/ coffees. The server was very knowledgeable about the beers and made some right-on recommendations.
