About

Led by Executive Chef, Matt Ginn, our CII team focuses on making sure you're eating local by utilizing produce from the island farm, the Chef's garden, and lobster from an island lobsterman.

Our menus change a few times each season to make sure we're taking advantage of all that Maine has to offer. Menu items feature casual fare with attention to detail that makes the restaurant perfect for a regular night out and a special occasion.

We offer snacks and cocktails from 2:30-9pm on our porch, making it a great gathering spot for anyone with guests, out for the day on the boat or meeting up prior to dinner.

Gem of a spot! Taking the ferry to an island made the night that much more special. Chebeague Island Inn is more Maine than an LL Bean catalog!

Sunday brunch with friends. Beautiful boat ride from Peaks Island to the Inn. The setting is fantastic with a lovely view of the Maine seacoast. The food was excellent. Some in our party had brunch, others the burger. Everyone was pleased!

Beautiful setting! We took my husband's parents out to the island for lunch and enjoyed every bit of it! The food was overall very good. The service was excellent. We were able to call for transportation from the ferry as Jim's parents would not be able to make the trek up the hill and the bellman arrived very promptly. We were seated immediately and enjoyed talking with our hostess and the wait staff. Recommend enthusiastically!

The restaurant is welcoming with an efficient and friendly staff. The food was very good served by a knowledgeable and accommodating waitress. The Inn is a step back in time which is refreshing in a world full of change. My party of 7 could not have asked for a better dining experience! Wish we had discovered the water taxi earlier in the summer! Our best lunch of the summer. 5 Stars all the way around.

Took a private water taxi out for special occasion/birthday dinner. I've lived in Portland for years, and this was my first visit - and I was so happy with this choice. The location is unbeatable - sitting on the outside porch of a lovely inn watching the sun set. Ambiance was wonderful, food was creative and delicious (had the deviled egg appetizer, with duck breast main course - wonderful) and the service was truly outstanding. Incredibly attentive without being overbearing. I can't recommend highly enough. It's not super easy to get to (you can take the Casco Bay lines ferry from Portland, or another ferry from Cousin's Island) or water taxi/private boat to get there. It's 100% well worth the beautiful trip across the bay to get to it. Exceptional.

The ambiance cannot be beat at the Chebeague Island Inn. Gardens outside were in full bloom. Porch sitting there cannot be topped. Food was not good this time. Lettuce in salad was a little brown. Mussels not cooked uniformly. Some nearly raw. Size and color varied. An off day? Last time there, same food items amazing.

There seemed to be an awful lot of people working in the dining room, but service was extremely slow. Our food was delivered by the kitchen and we didn't see our waitress until the meal was over. Fortunately we were able to tell the young woman filling our water that we'd like drinks, and someone from the bar brought them over. The food was fine, this is a wonderful old building with character, and from the window we were able to see a great sunset over the water. It's just the chaotic and uneven service that detracted from the experience.

This was the second time that I have asked for a specific table, was told it would not be a problem, reconfirmed the table and then arrived at the restaurant, with my party of five, to find the table had been taken moments before our arrival. I had also purposely selected a very early seating to assure that I did not encounter an earlier party sitting at the same table and staying longer than predicted. When I pointed out the problem to the person in charge of seating, she apologized and said she had made a mistake. This is exactly the same excuse I was given the first time this happened.

I also documented the earlier seating snafu in a OpenTable Review. Based on this second experience, I would not count on the restaurant fulfilling commitments made to special requests.

As frequent patrons of this restaurant, two words come to mind....very disappointing!

This was the best dinner I had in Portland. The staff is very professional and courteous. The food was outstanding. The wine I had was amazing, went perfectly with my dinner - the cucumber salad (above and beyond!) and the butter poached lobster with littlenecks. The lobster dish was phenomenal. Homemade cornbread, corn puree, everything tasted fresh and was plated beautifully. Just as constructive feedback, the service could do better. The food was amazing, but the waitress never came by to ask how anything was (the wine, the salad, the entree, the desert). And I waited a very long time for the check. I may have been overlooked.

The ambiance can't be beat! The servers were very pleasant but our service was a bit slow as the restaurant was extremely busy. Nonetheless , it was worth the wait as the food was delicious. The Duck was very tasty and artfully prepared. The lobster bisque was delicious with chunks of sweet lobster. The pork was also very tasty. The porch is amazing and the ambiance is A+++! This is a real treat!

We came over for the day to ride bikes and have anniversary brunch - our first visit to the inn or the island. Glad we had a reservation, as we likely would not have been seated outside on the porch. Option was to also be seated on the lawn but super windy. The porch allows the option to put the plastic down and offer some protection. We ordered basic breakfast fare at what we felt was a decent price - eggs/toast/potatoes/bacon for me, and a breakfast burrito for her. We had live jazz during our meal which made it amazing. Waitress was friendly and filled coffee and water timely. Everything was cooked well, the view is out of this world and the fact that you can lounge, post meal, on the porch or any of the adirondack chairs on the lawn is an added bonus. Fun way to spend the morning - would love to go back and stay for the night to try dinner!

While the service from all was outstanding, especially from one of the South African contingent who served our table, the food was just OK. I had the pork chop which was good but too dry. My wife had one of the pasta entrees having tried the other a few days prior. If you are a pasta lover, I recommend you avoid both of the two pasta entrees and go for something else...the salmon entree is exceptional. The mussels starter and the Caesar salad are also quite good. As always, the bar is professionally staffed and the drinks are prepared as requested.

Sitting on the porch is recommended. The view of the sunset over the bay in the evening is well worth the trip to the CII....if the fog cooperates.

Great location, excellent service, good food, on the pricey side. I recommend the Chebeague Island Inn for those seeking a unique dining experience on a low key Maine island. This is not Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard but you are likely to meet a real lobsterman at the bar, dine with a mixture of friendly locals and island visitors and enjoy the tranquility that the absence of glitz provides.

Arrived early for a 6:30 reservation and we were seated immediately on the porch overlooking Casco Bay. A perfect table with a beautiful view. Our drinks and appetizers were ordered and served promptly. Our main course was served almost 1.5 hours after being seated. Both our waitress and the hostess apologized for the wait noting that the kitchen was dealing with high volume. OK...nice setting; we had arrived early so we were still on schedule. The main course, when it finally arrived, was salmon, prepared perfectly. Almost worth the wait.

One observation I would make. The inn is known for the delicious biscuits it serves at the beginning of the each meal. The first basket is "free"; you are charged for additional baskets. These biscuits are delicious. Unfortunately, one of the four biscuits the two of us were serve was obviously a holdover from the previously day or from a seating much earlier in the day. While three of the biscuits were delicious as always, the fourth was dry and hard; obviously not from the "same litter". It is always good to assure that the signature servings on the menu are up to standard. "Penny wise and pound foolish" is trap to avoid when running a high end establishment.

The Chebeague Inn has finally reached its stride in time for the summer season. The location is unique and the service is outstanding. We appreciate the charming and professional service provided by a a small contingent of South African waitresses and request one of their tables when we dine at the inn. The food offerings are very good and the chef will accommodate requests for simple modifications....Example: less salt. The bar is professionally staffed and the drinks are exactly what you order. Dining at the inn is not inexpensive but it is only open during the summer season and transportation of everything to the island is expensive. Consider the cost as the price to pay for the experience. Based on this review, why are more of my rating not five stars? After dining at a number of truly five star restaurants it would be impossible to rate the CI at the same level. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend giving this island restaurant a try.

The Chebeague Island Inn is finally reaching its summer stride as the kitchen, bar and service staff work as an efficient and professional team. The food selections, while fairly basic, are well prepared and served graciously and efficiently. Our waitress was top notch and attentive throughout the evening. Drinks are professionally poured/mixed by a personable and customer focused bartender. One recommendation; a reduction of salt on some of the offerings would be beneficial especially for those who, for health reasons, need to control salt intake. As an example, the potatoes served with a delicious prime rib were very heavily salted.

This is the perfect spot for dinner on a summer evening! Start with cocktails and a cheese platter in the comfy chairs on the porch overlooking Casco Bay. We then had a leisurely dinner on the screened porch: seared salmon, fettucini, Chebeague burger---all delicious. And the house made biscuits were awesome! The international staff were very attentive and gracious. We had a wonderful experience.

While the menu selections continue to be fairly "run of the mill", it is early in the season so there is time for improvement. The service staff is very pleasant and customer focused. While I have factored in the short season during which the CI is open and the fact that an island location adds cost to operations, when I consider the menu and assess the cost, the restaurant is still on the pricey side for what you get. Despite having a captive clientele with people staying at the inn and "locals" who tire of eating at home, value considerations have a habit of making or breaking a restaurant over time.

While the location on a Maine island, with views of Casco Bay, gives the restaurant a head start for providing a memorable dining experience, the menu, both appetizers and entrees, are at best uninspiring. Fish, chicken, pork and beef dishes are offered; all of which I would have no trouble making at home at a much lower cost. While there is something for everyone, nothing offered is at all unique or memorable. Service from the bar and the wine list is a plus and the service in general is very good.

The restaurant could improve the dining experience by supplementing the basic menu with some type of truly special nightly offering of both an appetizer and a main course.

Terrible service at restaurant. Was told without apology that we would have to wait 45 minutes for our table despite our reservation and despite staying at hotel. Attitude is: you can't go anywhere else so you'll wait. No offer of a drink, no effort to make room or apologize. Then when we were finally seated there was almost no food left. Total rip off. Never felt more cheated by an experience. Avoid at all costs.

I ate dinner at the Chebeague Island Inn for a couple of nights recently. It is a great room, I was fortunate enough to get a nice view seat on the porch. They had a very nice wine list and I sample a couple of different Pinot Noirs that were quite good. Apps were good, reasonably priced and fresh oysters one night though I would have preferred lemon and cocktail sauce as opposed to the served minuette. The other night I had the mussels which were spectacular in every way and with a salad would make a fine meal. The entrees I tried were the scallops , which were served with a lemon reduction and bacon glaze with kale. While this was a tasty dish there were only 3 moderate to small scallops as part of the presentation, it looked more like an app on the plate and hence was way over priced. The other night I had the salmon which was way over cooked and served with a couple of different unknown reductions. This was a disappointment for sure.

Breakfast was part of the inn package. Great eggs and a good enough assortment of made to order items . The consistency from the kitchen varied greatly. One day 2 pieces of bacon, the next day 4. One day plain eggs, the next day garnished with parsley. Great biscuits came with dinner..one night i had 2, the next night I had 6.

service at the bar was really limited to drinks on the menu. one night had a horrible orange martini..the next night a not to be missed blueberry lemonade

restaurant table service was great, the people were all very friendly and attentive tho perhaps cleared a little quickly

get the picture? lots of variation

all in all a great location but the dinner entrees left a little to be desired..next time, and I will be back as there is great bike riding here, mussels and salad would take care of me.
