Chavela is a popular vegan and Latin American restaurant in the city of Los Angeles. The menu offered is vast and eclectic. Popular menu items include Barbacoa portobello tacos, truffled black pepper pasta, quinoa cheufa and vegan enchiladas. There is also a full bar menu for guests to choose from.
Much like the menu, Chavela is decorated with a modern edge. Most of the walls are lined with white drywall style tiles, the accent walls are bold and eye catching. The ceiling in the dining room is vaulted, providing the illusion of there being more space than there really is and the large bar is one of the primary focal points. Chavela also has numerous outdoor tables for those who wish to dine in the sunshine.
Chavela is a Very good Vegan Choice for Hollywood Diners. Don't be scared if no one is in the restaurant. They may be dining on the fabulous vegan next door at the sister restaurant for the alcohol. Chavela, at the moment does not serve alcohol....
This is a nice little place providing an alternative to the nearby Arclight eateries, apparently an off-shoot of Les Balcones next door. I really grooved to dining alfresco south of the boulevard (Sunset, that is), a block away from where my car was stolen 20 years ago on a bright sunny day. Times have changed and so has the dining scene in Hollywood. The menu has some wonderful choices of Latin American cuisine all veganized to make you feel full and au courant.
Appetizers are generously portioned and everything from start to finish is tasty, well seasoned and beautifully presented. There's also really nothing on the menu that will make you think you're eating meat so if you take friends who want a dead animal on their plate, I'd request a menu from Les Balcones next door ( and the service is so nice they probably will accommodate)
Also, a super-cute crowd... 10's looking for 12's make the energy in the room as much fun as the food. And, with K and L just next door, if you're a wine snob like me, a few $$ of corkage fee can make the evening extra special. Another keeper!
In our group were two vegans and two confirmed carnivores but everyone enjoyed the tasty and healthful food.
