About Chase Restaurant Bar & Grill
The Chase Italian Restaurant, a Santa Barbara institution since 1979, is conveniently located at 1012 State Street in the Theater district and showcases a classic elegant Italian décor with an intimate interior bar and an outside patio with high top seating overlooking State Street. The Chase features the finest meat, seafood and pasta dishes, as well as traditional Italian desserts. Signature dishes include Chicken Piccata served with Fettuccini Alfredo, Eggplant Parmigiana, Veal Valle de Ostra, Penne Carbonara and many more. This warm, romantic Italian restaurant offers a global wine list boasting many Santa Barbara wines which are curated to pair with the bold, rich flavors of classic Italian fare. Custom cocktails featuring spirits blended with seasonal ingredients as well as Italian and craft beer are offered as well. There is free parking in the rear of the restaurant off Anacapa Street.

We have a public parking lot located directly behind our building just off Anacapa St.75min complimentary parking.
There is a downtown open air shuttle that picks up and drops off directly across the street. Which is a .25 fare. Cab fare is $10 or less from most hotels.

Perfect in every way!!! Recommended to us by the staff at Fess Parker and we loved it. On our anniversary get away to Santa Barbara we were looking for a warm, romantic place with great food and excellent wine list and this is it. We were seated promptly in a cozy corner booth by the friendly host. Our server Noelle, was excellent in every way. She expertly opened and served our wine and from there it just got better. The food was the best Italian we have had anywhere!! It reminded me of how my Italian grandmother made hers. We were in heaven. We will be back with our friends. Thank you for the best anniversary in years.
We had a terrible experience! In spite of trying to get someone to wait on us, it was one-half hour before anyone came to our table. We explained we were needing to make it to the theater and needed to order. The food came late and was cold. Our drinks were never ordered, until we asked again for them. The drinks came after we had eaten our first course. After what should have been drinks or the meal “comped,” we were insultingly charged a 20% tip because their were six of us. A formerly wonderful place that has sadly gone down-hill.
I normally enjoy a meal at Chase. However, this time the service was bad, the waiter was rude, our orders were messed up, and the food was over-cooked. Unfortunately, even though I usually like Chase and love the Christmas decor, we will not be returning any time in the near future.
Everything was excellent as usual. This is old school Italian and we loved it. My wife had the Chicken Parm and said it was the best she has ever had and my Shrimp Scampi was really good too. We were seated exactly on time and the server did a wonderful job of taking care of us. My checklist is this: atmosphere - cozy, inviting and romantic with great nostalgic music, service- helpful and engaging, food- the best Italian we have had, drinks- great martinis, overall- a wonderful experience. I highly recommend this place.
After many years eating at The Chase, we found food remains tasty, with some specialties and many reliable Italian staples. Especially good are White Bean appetizer, Calamari and Marinara Sauce. Service has fallen noticeably in past year - e.g., lackluster greeting and servers, no name for server, no Specials information, no offer of ground pepper, and not touching base with our party for other requests. We are disappointed!
Went to dinner with my wife and in-laws. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly. We were actually greeted by the owner and he graciously allowed us to taste several of his new red wines (on the house). We will definitely go back for a dinner date or a family meal. Highly recommend!
Awesome ... We are locals and everything was wonderful just as it has been for the past 20 years. This is our go to spot in Santa Barbara and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is so comfortable and inviting, the music takes you back to the golden era and the food is always Fantastic. The best authentic Italian food in the city and the Piccata is the best anywhere. We wanted to impress our out of town guests with a restaurant that has the whole package and there was only one choice, The Chase... We are customers forever.
Food and service were terrible. Ordered a tomahawk steak and got something that looked and tasted like a poor quality porterhouse. The drinks were even bad. Ordered a bottle of Veuve Cliquot and 10 minutes later they return a day they don't have it. Extremely disappointing.
The food was good. I had the veal Provencial with spaghetti and marinara. When I have a Marsala, Piccata or Provencial sauce I prefer the same sauce on the pasta as on the meat instead of a fettuccini or marinara. The flavors of fettuccini and marinar do not go well with those sauces. (I am Italian and that’s how my mom and grandma used to do it so I am a little biased). The noise level was high and it was a little difficult to talk with my husband. The waiter was attentive and good.
Our server Mario was very friendly and professional and had a great sense of humor! The food itself was not that amazing. The only thing that stood out to me was my partners dish which was the salmon. It was perfectly cooked! Nice and butter and it appeared to melt in my mouth. I got the Prosciutto and Arugula flat bread had far too much garlic, no sauce, the Prosciutto was cut too thick and dry for my liking and the Arugula was just tossed on top with some shredded Parmesan. The drinks though, I will be coming back for their drinks. The Strawberry and Basil spritzer was refreshing and sweet. All in all I would come back for drinks maybe some appetizers and to sit on the small patio to watch the people of Santa Barbara walk by. Also if you get Mario as your sever you will be in good hands!
Not a very large restaurant. Nice inside "Italian" decore and sidewalk seating along State St. is great. A little noisy, but fantastic food. The best fettuccine alfredo I've had since being in Italy. Great menu selections, and wonderful desserts, too! Our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and made sure everything about our meal was just how we wanted. I highly recommend Chase Restaurant.
I hadn't been to The Chase is a long time as the food was somewhat of a disappointment on my last visit and the interior decor is quite dated and dark. A friend requested we go here for lunch (I had not gone for lunch before) so agreed. We sat outside, had wonderful service (our wait-person was very attentive), and we all enjoyed our lunches-salmon salad, caesar salad, and chicken fettuccine alfredo. It was relaxed and pleasant.
It's been 15 years since we've been here; for some reason we always passed it by, perhaps because of its small footprint on the sidewalk. But the Chase name popped up in a restaurant search and we figured "Why not?" We were delighted with our experience. The decor is a little dark, but with many wall errors to increase the apparent size (I hate staring at blank wall). The end result: very warm and cozy. The service was very attentive and the meals were delicious and, important to me, served hot. The only "ding" in the stars: we were towards the back of the restaurant and closer to the kitchen with its occasionally loud crashing crockery sounds. Will add this to our roster of dinner restaurants in Santa Barbara.
Food was excellent! I had lamb chops medium they were perfect! My wife had pasta and clams in white sauce, she enjoyed it very much. Service was good not great but friendly. The style and ambience is a little old but nice, comfortable. Their red wine list could be a lot bigger. Over all very nice restaurant would definitely recommend.
Outstanding in every way and better than ever. We haven't been to the Chase in a few years but our friends said they had a great meal and a wonderful evening there and recommended that we try it again. I must say that the food (I had steak and my wife had snapper piccata) was cooked perfectly and delicious, the service was excellent and the ambiance was awesome. The old school charm and cozy feel was amazing. We will be back often and bring friends.
I recently had the opportunity to come here for a charity event and it was so good that I decided to come back! The food and service was great and the atmosphere is just so cool. This place is definitely great for any occasion and you really get that home vibe when dining here. During the summer the patio seating is clutch for enjoying the sunshine and the hustle and bustle of downtown SB. Coming back again for sure!
This place is a true SB gem. I had lunch here today and we loved it. I had the piccata and a Caesar salad. We were greeted and sat immediately. Both dishes were incredible and I highly recommend this restaurant. The menu is filled with so many delicious options - I'll definitely be back to try out some of the other yummy items :) amazing all around!
Our entire experience here was truly marginal and mediocre. Food was slow and below average - pasta was over cooked and my spouse's lasagna was swimming in grease. Our waitress was so out of it that we think she may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Was no wonder that tables were available on Open Table. Won't return or recommend.
Made reservations , arrived a few minutes early , spoke to two employees who questioned my reservations . One employee told us to sit at a nice table being prepared. a minute later an oriental man questioned our reservations . told us the table was being reserved for 6 when the table would only hold 4 comfortably .We were already sitting down . oriental man told us to move to another table . I looked at him and told him the server had already sat us at this table .I told him I wasn't moving and if he needed the table by 6 he had better send us a server so we could order. This was at 6:07.My friend and I will not return to this restaurant , my prime rib steak was mediocore .
This is our favorite Italian restaurant in SB. Excellent food and great wine selection. Chase has an amazing ambience along with the best bar area and patio seating on State Street. Ideal for a romantic dinner date or daytime drinks and appetizers.
New Years Eve Dinner with Friends. Arrived at 7:45 and was seated on time. Have been to this restaurant mant times over the past 20 Yrs, and always loved it. however there is a new owner and we will never go back. The service was awful, the waiter forgot our order twice , and we watched tables arrive long after us and leave before we had our salads. When dinner finally arrived, only three of the dinners arrived together, one of which was incorrect, as we waited 10 more minuted for the last dinner to be served. it was Cioppino and tasted terrible. We feared sending it back, as we wanted to eat before 2017 arrived. When the bill arrived, we were charged for the mistaken order plus the other four Dinners. The new owner Jack offered a glass of wine or a dessert for our troubles (what a sport) , we declined. He thanked us for our long time patronage and advised that the Restaurant was a work in progress. For the first time in my Life, we left no tip and only gave the bus boy a $20.00 tip, as he was the only employee, attentive to our table. Good Luck staying in Business.... Do not waste your time here......
Great food, not so good service. Waited 20 minutes before someone asked us if we wanted drinks. No one was assigned to our table. The wife and I could not finished our dinners so asked to take it home. The waiter put our food in boxes but left out my wife's veal cutlet to our surprise.
Chase is one of my most favorite Santa Barbara restaurants. The food is excellent and service is wonderful! The chicken piccata with fettuccine alfredo is to die for! I always recommend the Chase to tourists when they ask where they should go for Italian food.
Got a cute booth for our anniversary lunch . Service was excellent! I had the steak sandwich and it was cooked perfectly, so tender and the way a steak sandwich should be made!!! My hubby had the chicken parmigiana , which was flavorful and cheesy in all the right places. Overall we left with nice full bellies and smiling !
We had a company dinner at Chase this week. There were 15 of us. The food was extremely good (the veal I understand was a bit salty - I wouldn't know as I have never and would never try it) but from personal experience I can say with no reservation, that Salmon with vegetables was over-the-top delicious. Five of the 15 of us had the same dish and we all loved it. For such as large party, the service was excellent! As a group, we had never had a group dinner at Chase or we would have otherwise known how "loud" it is in the evening. We were not even able to talk with co-workers as the opposite end of the table. But overall, we all enjoyed our time and our dinner. I would recommend Chase for a "smaller" gathering so you can hear each other during dinner. Aside from the Salmon, their Cannoli may well be the best I've ever had - it had the perfect ratio of cinnamon and filling and the shell was cooked to perfection.
We luckily had the booth in the very back of the restaurant, where we were not crowded next to other people. The place is always decorated beautifully at Xmas time with a huge tree and sparkling lights everywhere. We had the Brussels sprout and calamari appetizers - super! One of our party had their steak and it was cooked to perfection. The rest of us had either a veal or eggplant dish, and a decadent chocolate cake for dessert. Our family really enjoyed the entire experience and the waiter, Joey was super.
