Chart House - Waikiki Ratings and Reviews
New Years dinner, service horrible, two rib eye orders were rare, overall service just too slow. Manager nor servers never apologized for wait. Assistant server gave my daughter a sigh when she asked to have her rib eye cooked more, very unprofessional to give attitude. Granted they were busy but no excuse to refill our bread or drinks without having to ask. Only refilled water all the time Bc it was free. Called to complain and manager said he would credit rib eye dinners but have not received a credit to our credit card yet. Manager never came around to ask if all was ok. Horrible dining.
Food was a tad bit salty ,but overall a very good experience. This is a place to get some really good food. Just beware,.. it’s not like any other Chart House. It is not elegant by any means. It reminds me of “The Regal Begal” from “Three’s Company”, or a Crusty Crab type place. Decor from the 70’s fishing era that hasn’t been changed since. Overall service and food was excellent. Just come in flip flops and tank top.
Steaks were way undercooked they came out BLUE. To many tables in the resturaunt and people were packed in their like Sardines. It was difficult for the staff to get around the tables to deliver drinks and would spill them on the patrons. Staff kept bumping the our seats.
We had our wedding at the Chart House in Dana Point, CA and have eaten there on two other occasions. The food, drinks, decor, and service were amazing! So on our honeymoon, we were excited to eat at the one in Waikiki. The food was horrible!
The building and decor are dated, but not too bad. The view is of the harbor (it was night, so I can't comment much on the view). The staff was good, seating us promptly and attentive, but not too much.
Then there was the food, if you can call it that!
The drinks were uninspired and subpar. My wife's drink wasn't balanced well.
My lobster bisque was served cold and gelatinous (was the person at the pass sleeping?). When I sent it back, they microwaved it, making the shrimp rubber.
The Caesar salad was overdressed with gross, bottled dressing.
I had the lobster medallions with shrimp and scallops in a mushroom sauce. The lobster was so overcooked that it was hard and rubbery (I'm sure it had been cooked and chilled more than once). The sauce was canned cream of mushroom, gelatinous and gross. The shrimp tasted like previously frozen and were rubber. The scallops were small, but adequate, but were swimming in the disgusting mushroom gel.
My wife had the "ahi mignon". We've had a lot of ahi, but this was by far the worst! I cannot even describe how off the flavor and texture was. It wasn't old, but it didn't even taste like ahi. There was a teriyaki glaze, but it was like it was put on there, cooked, chilled, then reheated. It was inedible.
The lava cake was ok, but no where near the quality I expect from them.
When we complained, one meal was comped, but the quality was still not worth the $75 I paid.
All in all, this was a serious disappointment! I felt like I was on an episode of restaurant nightmares, where it used to be good, then the management started cutting corners until it was horrific.
Save your money and go to one of the food trucks instead!
Great for a family special occasion. Lots of effort to keep noise down was appreciated--good job. Could be very romantic at the right table. the food was very good, service very friendly. No errors, no unreasonable delays. We we seated right away. Chart house remains one of my favorite places for drinks and pupu, and special family dinners.
Prices very fair. delicious food.
We arrived before our reservations so we waited in the bar area. However, when our reservation time came and went and no one came to get us so I went to the hostess. She appeared flustered and annoyed although they already seated other parties before us. We came from the bar area to wait although other people were escorted from the bar area to the restaurant area before us. We had reservations for the first seating for dinner service.
What was disturbing was that they were out of Mahi Mahi and other dishes when we sat down. They are always out of Opah so they shouldn't even put it on the menu. It has never been available when we have gone to Waikiki Chart House.
We celebrated a birthday and our waiter was unable to get any of the other waiters to sing Happy Birthday like they did for another table. He said the other waiters were too busy. Service was spotty this evening. Some dishes seemed a bit salty than previous times. It appears we received dry maybe old bread. The birthday person had a good time and enjoyed their complete meal. The others enjoyed their meals too but had to change their orders since we were told there was Opah and 5 minutes later no Opah only swordfish.
The Waikiki Chart House does not participate with the other Chart Houses. One can't use the gift certificates for the Chart House chain (Landry restaurants) only the ones purchased at the Waikiki Chart House. They should state the exclusion on the Landry gift cards and at the Waikiki Chart House.
We had a lovely water view table for 4. All of us decided on the prix fix menu for $58. It was by far a better deal than ordering a la carte with enough options to satisfy most (and some limited substitutions, i.e. house salad instead of ceasar). All meals were excellent. The steak and shrimp entrée stood out from the rest, but the macadamia crusted mahi mahi was also outstanding, just too large a portion to finish. Although this is a chain, it had a very local feel, and we all enjoyed it immensely.
Chart House locations around the country have certainly had there ups and downs. This store looking out over the canal boat basin in Honolulu was very good. We were nicely greeted and escorted to our balcony side table. Service was well paced, friendly and efficient. The server was happy to split a caesar salad and prime rib - and embellished the serving of asparagus on his own. Nice wine list that had some affordable bottles. We had a Decoy Cab. Validated parking was $5.00
Overall a very pleasant end to a week in Hawaii.
Restaurant is a little dated, but the view and service was fantastic. The menu selections were wide and tasty and spanned from steak to seafood.
We made reservations (obviously), we were greeted promptly, seated promptly to a romantic table overlooking the Waikiki Marina, and service began immediately with full explanation of special menu items and special dinner offers.
Both my wife and I enjoyed our meals, the view, and our waiter (Alan). Given the opportunity return to Waikiki, we will return to The Chart House.
Visiting Honolulu and The Chart House was recommended. Went at sunset and was seated immediately, beautiful table with harbor view, and friendly attentive staff. Maybe the best Prime Rib I have had, and my wife's fresh fish was phenomenal. Good wine selection, and will return next visit to Honolulu. Highly recommend!!!!
Been going for years, and always welcoming and comfortable. To loud and no booths like in the passed. The food was not memorable. Maybe it was due to being in Honolulu that make it seem so rushed and uncomfortable, however I will try other locations. My favorite one was Santa Barbara or Data point. Thanks for everything else over 30 years.
We had relatives from Okinawa visiting and had a party of seven people. Five people ordered the special New York steak dinner for $35 per person which included soup or salad, selected entrees and selected desserts. The steaks were ordered from one medium rare, three mediums and one well done. All five said the steak was not good - tough and not tasty. All five were not happy and disappointed. We know it was on special, but maybe they can serve a smaller portion and better cut of meat. We are so sorry we brought them here and wish we had just spent the money and had gone to Hy’s Steak House where we are never disappointed and the quality of their food is well worth the price. I wouldn’t even say you get what you pay for because the steak served at Chart House would not even be good if it was half the price.
