Charlotte's - Newtown Square Ratings and Reviews
I made Open Table reservations and arrived about 10 minutes before my wife, who was meeting me after work. The staff had one of our favorite booths reserved. The promptly brought bread, oil, and a the marinated zucchini & tomato dish they serve complimentary. They showed my wife to the table. We dine at Charlotte's often and have held several large-group parties here. We are very familiar with the menu and their specialty dishes. Looking to try something different, we both chose the Dungeness crabs with Old Bay seasoning. The plates held 2 lbs. each. They were absolutely delicious. Our server, Theresa, brought a bowl for shells, lobster bibs and crackers, and shellfish forks. We both brought enough home to enjoy the next night. Jimmy, the owner, always stops at the table to say hello and make sure everything is okay. Everything was very okay and usually is. We will continue to be regulars at Charlotte's.
What a find! This was our 2nd visit here and this time was better than the 1st and the 1st was very good. The shrimp cocktail was worth the trip but more joy to follow. My wife was in the mood for a salad not on the menu but they were more than happy to create it. We tried steamed dumplings and amazingly good. Lamb chops were yummy. Drinks were top notch. The menu is huge. There is something for everybody. Melodie our server was fantastic. We wanted for nothing.
I frequent Charlotte's often and have never had a bad experience until this past week. I was wondering if they have a new chef. If the chef is new, I would suggest hiring a different one because we will not return if the food tastes like this. The crab imperial was beyond dried out and the bottom of serving dish was crusted with burnt food. The waitress was gracious and informed the manager and they did give a free dessert but that was nothing compared to the cost of the meal. We generally get the crab imperial or the stuffed shrimp since they are so moist and flavorful but this time it was horrible.
I only visit this restaurant for special occasions like my mother's birthday, because it is close to where she lives. We went here last year for her birthday and again this year. They put a sparkler on her desert and sang "Happy Birthday" to her. Food was very good and the service was attentive. Good value and lots of displays with old crystal and such .... my mother likes that.
Fabulous food & value with the mid-week multi course specials. Being handicapped is an issue as I had to use steps to enter & exit the restaurant. I use cane but do not know what people would do in wheel chairs. If there was a ramp I did not see one. Other than this, it is a wonderful place to dine.
Early bird menu is wonderful - great value with wide choice of selections. Includes cup of soup, crisp tossed salad, entree, vegetable of choice, bread, and dessert selection. We have enjoyed a different homemade soup every time - they are all outstanding. Portions are generous. Wait staff is attentive and accommodating. We look forward each time to our next visit.
We dine at Charlotte's at least twice a month. The food is always good and the service is excellent. The pricing makes this an outstanding value. They carry items usually only found in higher-end eateries. The ambiance is not formal but business or family upscale. That's why we have been regulars for a number of years and continue to patronize Charlotte's.
Food was delicious...the wait was terrible. It was all u can eat crabs and it was packed. When the waiter said we'd have to wait for someone to leave to get the crackers to break the shells, i thought that was it. Never heard thst before. We arrived at 5:30 and i had to leave at 7:45 for a committment. Next time i'll allowv4 hrs to eat!
I took my mom here for a special occasion dinner on Saturday. Normally, even with the restaurant busy, the service is fantastic. This was not the case on Saturday night. We got our drinks and appetizers, but the sherry to go with my mom's snapper soup came out after she had been eating it for at least 5 minutes. Our waitress said she would be back to refill our drinks when she brought out our entrees, but that was the last time we saw her until she brought our check (which we had to flag the hostess/manager down in order to get. The restaurant was busy, but I've seen it busier with much better service.
Consistently excellent food quality and service. Last Friday, I order snapper soup which was terrific. as an entrepreneur, I ordered the fried shrimp platter that are 5 incredibly large butterflied shrimp that are breaded to order. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. This is a very large entry served with a salad and two vegetables - all for $22.95!
You can't beat the food or the service especially for this price. I highly recommend that you try Charlotte's.
Where do I begin? Charlotte's shows a lot of promise but still needs some tweaks. The drinks were great and the shrimp cocktail was amazing! Not so much for the clams casino which they taunted "a favorite" It was too salty and a massive amount of filler, the shrimp lemon was good and I can' remember the 3 Rd offering on the sampler My wife had lamb chops and they were ok. A chocolate concoction was great for dessert. We will definitely return and hopefully more knowledgeable to navigate the menu
A couple of weeks ago, I ordered fried shrimp. I was overwhelmed with the size of the five collossal butterflied shrimp. They were very lightly hand breaded and cooked perfectly. I thought this dinner was incredible especially when you consider that these five collossal shrimp came with a salad and a baked potato for $22.95.
We returned one week later for shrimp parmigiana - same 5 colossal lightly hand breaded fried shrimp under melted provolone and marinara sauce with a salad for $22.95. It was just as delicious as the previous meal.
The portions are large, excellently prepared at an outstanding price. And the have a terrific pianist playing during dinner.
