Charlie Palmer Steak - Reno Ratings and Reviews
OverLl the food was great. I started with the Cesar Salad. It was fantastic. Big enough for two. For my entree I selected the filet with the peppercorn sauce. It was tender and cooked perfectly. The sauce could have been more peppery. For a side I had the Brussels sprouts which were amazing. My only complaint t was the very slow waitress and the noise level which was too loud for a date night.
I'm vegetarian so I didn't expect to find a lot of choices at a steak house. We were there celebrating my husband's birthday. My husband and friends enjoyed their steaks (NY cut and Filet Mignon) and they looked good too. We had mash potatoes, green beans, chick peas w/spinach, mac and cheese. All the sides were very good. Our waiter, Julian, was awesome!!! He treated us like old friends and provided us with personalized service that felt genuine.
First time I ordered duck and I didn't understand when the waiter asked me what temperature I wanted my duck at (I've only ever been asked how I wanted it cooked med rare and such) when I looked at him confused he snapped at me impatiently "how do you want it cooked what temperature ?" I felt upset paying the almost $150 when that's the sort of service I got.
The ambiance was great with subdued lighting and the seating was appropriate and comfortable. Everyone was polite albeit professional and attentive. Our host was amazing and I was thoroughly impressed with her candor as well as her knowledge of the menu. Any question I had she was quick to respond with impeccable detail. Due to a delay with our order the chef provided additional foods to tide us over until the main course.
When our main course arrived my girlfriends filet was made to order to her satisfaction while the salmon melted in my mouth like butter. Accompanying vegetables were both unique and tasty from the au gratin potatoes, butter rich spinach to delectable Brussels sprouts.
All told, considering the refreshing service by all attendants, the subdued ambiance and the varying appetizing and palatable dishes proved a dinner to savor and remember for some time to come. Thank you Charlie Palmer restaurant for a great dining experience.
On my 65th bday. I ordered the petite new york strip prepared medium rare which was cooked to perfection. A choice of different sauces were offered. My choice was the aoli, though delicious I certainly did not need it as my steak stood on its own two feet. My side was the twice baked potato. I had already read a sterling review about that side from another post. My boyfriend claims he doesn’t eat streak. However I talked him into trying the first bite. Instantly, though he ordered the seared salmon, which was equally delicious, he became converted. The potato was to dye for. Alot of yummy sounds were coming from our table as we slowly enjoyed & shared every bite. The service was outstanding. The noise level, tho in a casino was not detectable, & pleasantly there was no cigarette smoke in the dining area. Following, which we both would rate as fine dining, I received a complimentary chocolate desert. It too was delicious. IMO not a complete birthday without cake & a candle to make a wish on. Described as a flour less delight it resembled a s’more with a coffee mouse in the middle topped with whipped cream sprinkled with cocoa powder and drops of caramel droplets. If that wasn’t the “piece de resistance” we were also complimented with macaroons & house made bites of dark chocolates. Lastly & certainly appreciated in addition to the prefect evening, we received two small bags of homemade oatmeal raisin cookies.
I will finish with this. I am a third gen native of Reno. I have had the good fortune to do a great deal of traveling both within the great USA as well as Europe & the Caribbean. The evening was too perfection, I will always remember that meal as one of the best I’ve had. Bravo to little big/little Reno, GSR and Charlie Palmer’s for a great dining experience. Thank you!
The service was Ok. For 100$ dinner expect way more. The waitress was very rude after we both didn’t want wine. She shut down and didn’t listen. She then ordered the wrong meal. Chicken does not come well done or medium. Once our food came out it was cold and frozen and tasted horrible. The bread was very hard and cold. The glasses were dirty. Our salads had a sprinkle of dressing and nothing else but lettus. If your looking for a nice night out would recoment the Harras or even Olive Garden has better service and food. Would not recommend to anyone and will not go back.
The first time I visited Charlie Palmer was last year in Valentine's, we had made a later reservation (9pm) but had showed up early and had gotten sat right away! My boyfriend and I shared our meal and they had given us both enough to eat while being completely satisfied with our meal. We had just went on Friday for our 5th anniversary and we were both just blown away again by not only the service but of the meal itself as well. We had shared short rib ravioli as our appetizer and it was mouthwatering to say the least, and for our entree shared a half rack of lamb on a bed of pureed potatoes and it was just fantastic. Everything was cooked perfectly and I'm going to continue coming here for every special occasion just because of how great everything went.
Overall, I would say our meal was mediocre. I don't mind paying $50+ for a steak dinner in a nice restaurant, but at that price, I would expect it to be pretty decent. We both had the ribeye and both felt the same way after our meal. Although we ordered the steak to be cooked medium, they were both well done, cool, tough, and above all, flavorless. Note exactly the "Prime" steak that is advertised. The service was good, and the atmosphere was nice...but the steak was a disappointment.
Steaks were excellent no sauce needed , twice baked bacon potato very tasty. I could have lived without the Caesar salad for sure , Donovan very nice and down to earth and friendly wish he would have cane around a bit more none the less very knowledgeable. Loved the oysters. Overall enjoyed our experience.
We had dinner here before dinner in the showroom. We had reservations and were seated on tine; our waiter was very helpful and accommodating as was the rest of the wait staff. We both had their special of Alaskan crab lets, which were large and tasty..All good, no complaints.
Susie was are host, and she was phenomenal! We've had her many times before. Loren was a host we enjoyed on a previous outing, he came by are table to say hello which was really great and thoughtful. Nip is a gem! He makes sure there is always water and bread, and also keeps all dirty cutlery and plates clear of your table, he's a joy t o converse with. Josh is the manager, and I must say he has to be the reason that Charlie Palmers Reno location is such a wonderful place to dine. The way he and his staff treat you is beyond exceptional!!! I visit this location at least three times a year and I'm looking for a way to make it four!!!!
I was really disappointed with the quality of service and entree.
Appetizer: ordered lobster ravioli. It came with 5 raviolioli. It was Ok. We also ordered raw oysters; in my opinion that was the best part of our dining experience.
My wife ordered the lamb with potatoes. The lamb was mediocre and truffle potatoes cold. I ordered the flank steak with twice baked potatoes. Again potatoe appeared to be reheated several times delivered warm.
The scallop appetizer was delicious but the snow crab leg with lemon butter tasted old and not at all fresh. We sent it back and the server did acknowledge it wasn't as fresh at it could be.
As usual, the filet mignon was fantastic!
We have ben to Charlie Palmer many times and the service is always top notch, but this time the food quality (only the snow crab) was less than stellar.
My daughter and I shared a shrimp cocktail (very good), 10oz filet and a side of Brussel sprouts. I don’t think the quality of the filet is worth the cost and as we like brussel sprouts, we found they were hidden in so much stuff...meh. Had butter cake for dessert. YUM! Loved our waiter, service was good. Good wine list. They bring you a little selection of cookies and chocolates after meal. Nice touch. I’ve been there 3 times, each time leave thinking Wow that was expensive, but, not so sure food is worth the cost.
No prices on the menu very high-priced for very little food the food could have at least came with some sides but you have to buy that separately my salmon was dry it was mediocre food for a very very high price with no sides will not return or recommend also the salads tasted dirty like the well that is had not been washed and there was hardly any dressing on there. Noisy
We did not really enjoy this experience. The service was great and the restaurant was nice. However, the food quality was not fabulous. It was very pricey and so we expected better. In my opinion the food quality was comparable to an outback steak house. We will not be returning.
The service was par with all of the other high end Steak houses we have eaten at in the Reno/Sparks area. The quality and preparation of our steaks was subpar and neither my spouse or I finished our meals. We did take the leftovers home to our dogs (at least they enjoyed them). Maybe we had a bad night but I doubt we will ever try this restaurant again especially since there are so many better steak houses in the area. Had to try it though based on its reputation. We just weren't impressed and it the value of the experience was not worth the $200 price tag.
Poorly prepared food, way overpriced for what it was, and for what Charlie Palmer's is taunting itself to be. Was expecting a four star steakhouse experience. Only very good things were the breads, desserts and service. What a let down for a family pre-Christmas dinner get together, and a sickening waste of a $200 gift card. Could've had an outstanding steak dinner at the local Basque hotel for half the price.
