Charlie Gitto's 'On the Hill' Ratings and Reviews
I already expected the best food and service but the waiter told me about the grouper entree I had try give it a try. I have grouper every year on the east coast but never in St. Louis. It was delicious and perfectly prepared.
Great experience at a great restaurant. We will be back in a couple weeks.
The ambiance was excellent. The service was excellent. The atmosphere in the restaurant was perfect and Charlie Gitto's is a quintessential "Hill experience".
The food was very good....but I was hoping that it was going to be outstanding. None in our crowd ordered pasta, so take that into consideration, but there was too much breading in many of the dishes and nothing really stood out as "outstanding". Good Italian comfort food.
Don't get me wrong, the food was very good, the wine was great, the service and the environment was superb, but it just missed an A+ because the food could be better.
Fabulous as always! We are treated like royalty and never rushed. Quinn, our waiter knows how to stage the food so we are never overwhelmed between appetizers, the main meal and dessert. We like the main dining area as well. The ambience is welcoming, relaxing and always spot-on!
One of our favorites. Fine Italian restaurant with many special offers of veal and chicken.
Always great fish options, wonderful salads and don't miss pasta. If you have room for desert too you will find many great options. Make reservations in advance as they are very popular.
Will not return on Valentine's Day. Extremely over crowded and no privacy. Did meet some nice people and some regulars who asked me to return on a different day. Food and service was excellent!!! Highly recommend on none holidays. Valentine's day day was all about the money not the occasion.
Overall outstanding Dining experience for Valentine Day. We started our dining experience with a cold antipasta platter, compliments of our favorite Maitre D. Next I had an excellent Caesar Salad with fresh anchovies and my wife had the House garden salad. For our main entrees, I enjoyed the Seafood pasta Suzanne loaded with shrimp, mussels, clams, and scallops in a spicy white cream sauce with tagliatelle pasta. My wife had the Seafood Rissoto also loaded with shrimp, scallops, mussels and clams. We topped off the evening with a triple layered chocolate cake served with vanilla gelato, yum. What an outstanding evening
Way too many tables! Felt like we were intruding on couples at adjacent tables. No chance for a nice conversation. Food was good as always but service was not up to par, probably because it was crowded and hard to move around. All in, a disappointing Valentine dinner.
Considering we had 5 at dinner on Mon. for 7:30 dinner, the food was excellent other than one veal dish that was overcooked. Service was well performed, good wine list, noisy folks left by 8:15pm. We appreciated the parking lot, beautiful desserts, well stocked bar with a good bartender. They have a terrific back dining room we would use for a private party sometime.
Our first visit to Charlie Gitto's. Note, there are several locations with the same name. Beautiful décor (old World) in older neighborhood setting. We went Sunday evening, so not a fair judge of liveliness. But, it was very quiet. No bar scene. Food was delicious with homemade sauces and pasta - desert very good too. Service was attentive, timely and fun waiter... water was always filled which made my wife happy. It was cold out and window frame by us had a noticeable breeze coming in (poor insulation)... not a major detraction considering the positives. We would definitely go again.
We thought as a table that the toasted ravioli was mushy. The salad did not have enough dressing. The food was good but not great. It was way overpriced for the taste. I would pick a different restaurant on the Hill before coming back. Disappointed especially since we were celebrating a birthday. Our waitress did an amazing job and was very friendly.
