Charlie Gitto's 'On the Hill'
Perfect quiet evening after Cardinals game
Great service, food and ambience
Our party of 4 shared the caprese salad,
arancini and toasted ravioli ~ all were excellent. Our entrees were the scallop over risotto special , the lobster and rock shrimp pasta , red snapper and ravioli ~ each was outstanding. Our wine was excellent too
an Italian Pinot .
The only weak area was the desserts. The tiramisu was lacking alcohol and coffee and the cannoli was heavy
We are new to the area and will definitely return for another amazing dinner
Charlie Gitto’s is always fantastic! Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and impeccable service. Highly recommend!!
It was a Beautiful evening and Caitlin was an over the top waitress. Food always incredible as usual!
Lovely restaurant with really good food. Perfect for families.
Great food and our server Timothy was outstanding!
When we walked into the restaurant, the hostess was friendly and we got our table immediately. Our waiter was also very friendly and knowledgeable about the wine selections from Italy. He was the kind pf waiter that put you at ease and made recommendations that we followed......the food, wine and atmosphere were excellent. The dessert was equally as good. Would recommend to anybody.
Got to dine outside on a beautiful evening with company guests. Every dish was authentic and tasty. Wine choices were good too. I always like to eat on THE HILL. This is one of my favorite places. Waiter, however, just needs to learn some Italian, haha
Would like to thank Tomas R. and his colleague for the amazing service. I sincerely apologize for not catching the name.
I absolutely love this restaurant. The food and service is excellent. By far my best dining experiences ever!!
Excellent as always! Always fun for special occasions.
Great place. A little on the noisy side but it is True Italian!! A definite must eat when in St Louis.
Good food and excellent service and atmosphere. Definitely will go again in the future.
We love the traditional St. Louis hill feel of Charlie Gittos and the food is amazing!
A lot of cities boast of their Italian neighborhood and its food and more often than not, they range from average to terrible. Charlie Gitto's was not one of those places. From the toasted ravs to the cherry ice cream, our food was nom-worthy. The wine list was impressive but with many reasonably priced options as well. From the bartender to the busser, the staff was professional and informed. My only complaint was that the staff could be a bit too obsequious during the meal. We don't need to be checked on after every bite-we're fine, I promise.
Absolutely loved the atmosphere, service, and food!
Great atmosphere, all of our food was amazing! Pistachio gelato was a hit!
The food is delicious here with lots of choices. The service is good, sometimes a little slow when they are really busy. Nice to sit at tables with white table cloths.
My wife and I have been coming here for 3 years now and have never had a meal we didn't leave beaming about. The customer service is second to none and even on our first few visits we were greeted as if we were regulars which really sets the tone for a warm evening. I have a friend in town and I have been telling him to try it and finally when I was in town we went. The dinner was great from front to back, the specials were terrific and the cocktails on point. So it was so good, my friend asked us to go again the next night which we did with family. My wife and I were talking and it seems restaurants now a days are more turn style get you in get you out, charge high prices and give you low end service with non-memorable meals. Not Charlie Gitto's! Again another great experience! Don't change anything!
Took my mom here for her birthday. We all loved the experience! Thanks for helping us make her day special!!
Staff was extremely courteous and patient with our party. The host went above and beyond to accommodate our late guests. The food was delicious. We came for the restaurant week specials, which were more than reasonable. Most of us ended up ordering from the regular menu. This the first of many visits!
We plan to make Charlie Gittos a once a month dinner.
The food was amazing and the service was excellent!!! Can’t wait to go back!
Charlie Gitto’s on the Hill never disappoints! The gnocchi is the best I’ve ever had (and my Italian grandmother made it by hand when I was a child!). The service is exceptional, the food amazing. We visit from out of state occasionally and Charlie Gitto’s is always on the itinerary!
A fabulous way to demonstrate to out of town guests what great restaurants we have in STL !
Top notch service, very good quality food and good size portions, but it's pricey. $100 for two people. I had ice tea, wife drank water, split an appetizer, we each ordered a entree and side. Only thing we didn't like was the side of pasta. Tasted like spaghetti drowning in butter with red pepper flakes.
I decided a couple months ago to eat here for my birthday. I knew it would be really good, but it was actually truly excellent. Every bite had a magnificent texture and taste. The house-made bread, the butter, the salad, the lasagna, the cake: every single bite was delightful! It was one of the best dining experiences of my life. The staff was so warm and attentive. All three hosts spoke to me 2-4 times during my visit, and in addition to my server, I’d say four other staff members attended to my needs in a very professional, yet friendly, manner. I was thanked more than once for sharing my special day with them. I didn’t feel awkward at all dining solo: excellent food and a comforting atmosphere were my companions.
Our go-to Italian restaurant on The Hill. Excellent food and service. Always consistent. Well worth the hour and a half drive.
It was a wonderful meal with excellent service! We will be back!
Wonderful selection at Easter Brunch for a very reasonable price.
Charlie Gitto's On the Hill was fantastic. We were enthusiastically welcomed and enjoyed prompt, courteous, and outstanding service.
Nick was our waiter and he knew the details of all of the specials, helped with a suggestion for a wonderful bottle of Italian wine, and ensured everything was to our 100% satisfaction. BTW, the wine went perfectly with our meals.
We began our meal with a salad special which included arugula, green beans, and goat cheese over sliced watermelon. The combinations of flavors was amazing.
My wife went with the homemade pasta special which had shrimp and lobster which was phenomenal. The pasta tasted amazing and you knew it was homemade and cooked to perfection. I went with the Seafood Pasta Suzanne which was also great. Again, the homemade noodles were cooked perfectly and the combination of seafood in the spicy three pepper cream sauce was delicious.
Charlie Gitto's treated my wife to a piece of cake for her birthday while I had the Cannoli for dessert. The Cannolis were amazing. The shells were crisp and the filling was outstanding!
We will certainly return to Charlie Gitto's the next time we are in St. Louis.
I had friends in town visiting that had never been to St. Louis, and I hadn't seen in years. Charlie Gittos on the Hill is a quintessential spot to take guests and show them authentic, old school St. Louis. Gittos is my favorite place on the Hill and it did not disappoint. The food was delectable and everyone loved it. Gittos is a very busy place, and they were very on top of getting our order and moving things along quickly, but I knew we would want to linger and talk since we hadn't seen each other in so long. They became super accommodating upon realizing this, and I could not be more grateful. What respect to show their guests. I would definitely recommend this restaurant above and beyond any others!
Charlie Gitto's represents all that is wonderful about a traditional restaurant on the Hill. Professional staff with just the right touch; amazing super-delicious food, a bar that pours great drinks and an atmosphere of sophistication. Respect the institution and come dressed respectfully. This is a special place. Love it.
Excellent thin crust pizza and creme brulee
First time here after many recommendations from friends. A real Italian joint. Dark, clean and lots of close tables.
Pizza was thin crusted (surprise for an old Italian place) but very well cooked and topped.
Pasta Borghese is their specialty and it had a good flavor but could have used more red pepper punch.
Lobster Bisque bowl was heavy and rich and veal with lump crab was cheesey and very well made.
1 big problem......ALL of the servings arrived luke warm. with no exceptions. Before long, the soup was actually cold. This consistent trait took away from the entire dining experience..
Next time, we will look elsewhere
The food is good. Last time we had an amazing waiter who really added to the experience. This waiter wouldn't bring me water when I asked (after sitting for 10 min without water). He brought our cocktails before the water service and I asked again. The girl who brought us our water told us the bread was in the oven. Our bread never came. When we received our entrees, I asked her if the bread was out yet. She blamed it on someone else, brought us bread, it was ice cold. Just not the kind of experience where you really feel taken care of, especially considering the prices.
Great place for a date or dinner with friends. Host was welcoming, waitress was knowledgable about the menu and recommended the rigatoni, which was outstanding.
Love Charlie Gitto’s on the Hill. Have never had less than a great experience.
Great date night atmosphere. Service was prompt and non-obtrusive. Would recommend.
