I always enjoy dining at Charlie Gitto's. One of my favorites, believe it or not, is their Matzo Ball soup. I also enjoy their Napoleon Eggplant appetizer. Service is always prompt and the staff are well trained. Makes for a great experience.

I wanted to love this place but I only liked it. Food was delicious - I had linguine with clams and my wife had beef ravioli. There's nothing wrong here; it's just that St. Louis is filled with good and great Italian restaurants and this one comes off a bit stodgy and overpriced for what you get. I don't mind spending $100 for pasta and a decent bottle of wine at a great place, but there's just no "special" here. We may come back and try the pizza sometime, but this is not a place for a special night out.

Below average Italian food that was overpriced. Tables too close together. Kept getting bumped by the guy behind me.

We ordered wine and an appetizer. The wine didn't show up until the appetizer was almost gone. That was kind of the way the meal was - not fully coordinated and lacking detail. Having eaten at the Hill location, I was expecting more.

Food and service were great but is a little pricey, way too expensive for side salad. But makes for a nice night out.

Meatball appetizer was very good, Italian chopped salid had no taste and looked like something Subway serves but for twice the price.
Main course- Rigatoni with sausage gravy, except there was no sausage. $18 for a half pound of pasta with no sides or meat. This place even charges for oil and cheese to dip bread in.

Must've been Homecoming weekend, lots of high-schoolers. Was seated in a high traffic corridor so was very much part of the "busy-ness" of the place, even though sometimes we didn't want to be. Nevertheless, the service was very good, and the food was excellent.

My wife and i decided to dine here for our 12th wedding anniversary. The food was excellent , service was outstanding. Our waiter brought us a dessert on a plate with Happy 12th Anniversary written in chocolate . My wife thought that was really nice. This will be a place we will dining at a lot more frequent .

We had a group of five plus a one-year-old who were celebrating our daughter’s 40th birthday. I asked about how they could help us make this special and they delivered. First, when we arrived, the table was ready for us including the high chair. There even was a small cup for the baby. A lovely personal dessert was delivered to my daughter following the meal. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and this experience!

Everyone enjoyed their meals. Loved dressing on side salad. Portions are generous. We took half our food home. The Orancini appetizer was yummy. The eggplant appetizer portion is meal sized, a little thick and heavily breaded. My steak was tasty, however I ordered it Nunzio style so the sauce made it difficult to discern the fat and gristle. Pasta dishes are all tasty.
We brought a cake and special candles to celebrate our bday girls. We were a little surprised when they brought their own house complimentary slices of cake out first with lit candles. Felt as though it undermined our dessert . Had to ask for our cake to be brought out which caused us to sit and wait. It was getting late and we were antsy to wrap things up. Our cake arrived and they didn't see our candles in the bag so they had to go get them. More waiting...

The lunch menu offers a wide selection of options. The several items ordered by those in our group all looked appealing, and people seemed to enjoy them. My entree, chicken lemonata, was attractively served, and delicious. The only issue I have is that the chicken and the pasta served on a separate dish, would have been tastier if they were warmer. Both were not as warm as I would have liked.

Service was very good, and the restaurant decor is attractive.

On this visit the food was very average. The cheese garlic bread appetizer, the lobster bisque and the salad were great. Three of the four entrees all left something to be desired, especially the lobster ravioli. It had little to no lobster meat or lobster flavor.

Nice restaurant but the sea scallops special was overpriced for the quality and portion size. I rated the food and overall category as good because the rest of the meal was good with fair pricing.

Food was amazing. Service was great....they are clearly on the "upscale" side of things both in food and service but also in price. But it was no Morton's price tag either. You could get out of there for under $70 if you just had two moderately priced plates and maybe an appetizer, but you could easily hit the triple digits if you went all out and drank. (I can't help it, I'm an accountant). The server made a point to show us all of the "specials" and encouraged us to consider getting a salad and wine, neither of which we were interested in that particular evening, but he his friendly vibe remained the same when we ordered waters, entrees and an appetizer. And he was sure to suggest we check out the cafe for desert samples after we declined desert but before the tip was left (which I made sure was extra generous since we probably didn't run as high a bill as he was probably used to seeing). I admit that my palate for "fine dining", Italian or otherwise is limited as I'm not a person who typically goes and spends big bucks on something that's going to disappear from sight in an hour and from my system in a day. And someone with higher standards than me may be more picky. But that said, I can't speak enough about how great the food was. My wife, who is even more "honest" than I am, raved about it. You may get a little more bang for your buck at Maggianos, but the food here was a few notches higher. Our server was kind, prompt, and never far away but also gave us enough space that we could enjoy our date without being asked if we were ok every 120 seconds. As I said, we are not "high dollar dinner" people, but we will definitely be back to Charlie Gitto's for a future special occasion celebration. Anyone who has a taste for authentic Italian food and an "upscale" experience should definitely have Charlie Gitto's on their list of restaurants to try out.

It was my wife and I first time to Charlie Gitto's and it was outstanding. The salutes were cold and the food was hot.Our waiter "William" never let us see the bottom of our drinks, he was professional in everything he did for us. He made our "DateNight" an enjoyable one. We look forward to going back on another date night.

Went for an anniversary; ended up with a huge bill for a so so meal at best. The restaurant was loud and crowded. We were not seated in a busy aisle, but were bumped into repeatedly. The arnicini and gelato were good; my husband enjoyed his pasts, but the lobster ravioli was most onions and sauce. We will not be returning. St. Louis offers so many better Italian restaurants to enjoy.

Had a reservation for six to celebrate a birthday; in my reservation request, I requested a table "off to the side" as much as possible. We were seated pretty much in the middle of the action; got to be pretty (actually very) noisy. Never the less, the food was (again) good; one complaint from my mother-in-law was that hers wasn't hot (only warm). Our server could have been more attentive; had to ask for bread, lemon slices for our water, re-fills on coffee. He appeared to be tasked with the larger party tables. Really enjoy the spacious bar area; had happy hour appetizers and drinks there.
