Charlie Bird's serves proper Italian cuisine with a charming and modern aesthetic. Small plate options include the escarole and parmigiana salad with crispy toast and the Roman burrata with pickled cherries and almonds. Entrée options showcase Charlie Bird's inventive recipes, such as the warm spring asparagus with hazelnuts and parmigiana, the roasted chicken with spicy arugula, and the wild ocean trout with charred onion. Pasta dishes are popular and include the rigatoni with guanciale and peas, the gnocchi rosa with basil and ricotta, and the lamb ragu pappardelle.
For the ideal end to your meal, enjoy Charlie Bird's warm chocolate budino with rich olive oil gelato and caramelized Rice Krispies with a hot cappuccino.
Food and setting was stellar. Service was subpar, inattentive and unresponsive. We waited for quite a bit of time before and after the meal. I arranged a birthday surprise for a friend and the waitstaff completely forgot and then when we reminded them again, they delivered the cake in an awkward fashion. Nice people but really need to step up service.
5/5 star experience. I went to Charlie Bird for lunch and was immediately taken by the ambience, it was modern but still homey and well-lit.
I ordered the farro salad which is one of the best salad's I've ever had in the city. But what really killed it was the cheese on the burrata. Do yourself a favor and get the burrata! From what I was told the cheese is freshly imported from Europe, the texture and the taste of it was unbeatable. I got the warm chocolate budino for dessert and it just melts in your mouth.
Definitely recommending this restaurant to my friends and to you! You might want to reserve ahead of time because it's quite popular!
Charlie Bird was a great find. Well priced, simple menu was a nice change. Everything has become such a scene in NYC that it was nice to enjoy a lunch in a spot that feels like a neighborhood restaurant. It's not an easy reservation, but at least it's not insane. But the best part...the food rocked!
Had lunch here with a friend and everything was amazing, even the music they played! The food was superb. We shared everything: faro salad, crispy Brussels sprouts, fried artichokes and cacio e Pepe pasta. I left the restaurant and the first thing I did was make another reservation for dinner. I can't wait to go back and try more off the menu.
My friend and I each had the ribeye and octopus, and I also had the cauliflower. The octopus was okay, but everything else was absolutely incredible!
I love the entire sensibility of Charlie Bird. The chef/sommelier/owners have really paid attention to what is most important - the food. Always hard to decide what to get, pastas are so delicious and authentic. The backgrounds of the owners bring so much to this special place. Gnocchi Rosa, made with ricotta, not potatoes, taught by Rosa herself, light as can be. Great place to share plates so you get to order everything. Wine list so interesting and diverse, without being a tome. The only thing I would change, and I'm probably in the minority, is the music. Would prefer more jazz of the Charlie "Bird" era, rather than the modern "jazz" of today. Fun place, great food, good vibe. One other thing I would change would be a parking garage closer to the restaurant, but I'm sure I'm in the minority on that as well. Go to Charlie Bird!
Service was spot on & the restaurant has a great vibe-however, the food was nothing special, the portions very small & it was expensive for what it was.
I really enjoyed my time here. I had been reading about it and wanted to check it out.
The food was tasty although a bit over salted. The music was also too loud for the morning. Other than that I really liked it.
Great ambiance. Went for lunch, was pretty empty. Food was good but nothing amazing.
Let me start this off by saying I had high expectations for Charlie Bird, and I was not disappointed. I had been trying to get a reservation for 6 months (not consistently of course, but definitely try to book a month out in order to get the prime day & time). To preface this, my boyfriend and I are huge hip hop fans, and I like to call myself a foodie from time to time. The music was on point, and my boyfriend lucked out requesting our song to be played during our time at Charlie Bird (Bonita Applebum by A Tribe Called Quest). Food was on point, service was impeccable, and the atmosphere will bring me back!
I took my cousin here for lunch and we ordered the bird, of course. Roasted chicken with kale and black truffle was so delightful that I tried to copy the dish at home. Lets just say that the restaurant won that competition. Maybe this is a crowded hot spot at night, but lunch was quiet and lovely.
Really great food. Out table had small bites. All outstanding. Next table had the Ribeye and Pork Chop.
We all raved about the food. Wine list was great especially the collection from other Chefs
Truly a phenomenal experience. It was one of those nights when everything worked: the menu, the wait-staff, the ambiance, the music....I highly recommend Charlie Bird for an energetic NYC experience. And the octopus, carpaccio, and veal chop...wow!
Great lunch with my daughter the chef and her firend also in the food industry. They both have worked in a significant Italian restaurant in San Francisco, and nothing but praise for the food at Charlie Bird.
Although the slow cooked pork shoulder, black bass, brussels sprouts and fries were among the best I've tasted and the service was just right, the ambiance of Charlie Bird needs a lot of work. The designers who thought that wood floors, brick walls, metal window dressings and other hard surfaces in a room approximately 20 by 50 would allow for conversation (polite or not) should rethink their design. With a kitchen working hard, it's sad that your client cannot hear themselves think. There is also the issue of other patrons screaming to be heard while they take incessant selfies of themselves at their tables. Really, what is the purpose of good food if you have a carnival atmosphere - just throw some burgers on the barbecue! Someone in management needs to add some soft surfaces and tone down the noise - visual and aural.
Had lunch here so can't speak to the dinner scene. The restaurant was pretty minimal. The food & wine were awesome. Our waiter was not bad but not great either. Overall great experience.
Fantastically friendly service, and a compact food menu that showcases incredibly well with the generous wine list. This place is very chic, and also low key and very genuine. Great flavors in the food and perfect portion sizes too!
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. Never been before but will definitely return. We all had the same salad - delicious, but should have been more adventurous!!
Delicious meal - Brussels sprouts and cauliflower were standouts, the Pork Shoulder was simple and nicely seasoned and lamb shank was very tasty. Good cocktails and wine.
Our first time at this neighborhood gem. The food was excellent -- extremely creative and tasty combinations! The noise level was an issue, as the background music was Rap, and it was conversation hindering. The waiter was able to get it turned down slightly (thank you!).
This is our first time here and it's pleasant surprise that the food is pretty good in flavor and presentation. We like what we ordered and would like to come back again.
Fine food, nice place, highly recommended for every occasion
Outstanding food...you have to try the farro salad. Great service, cool music and beautiful people; what more do you need!
from the food to the service... there was nothing i could complain about - the mix of great unique foods paired with biggie & old school puffy daddy jams made my night
thought food (almost every dish) was oversalted and i like salt
Excellent meal, staff very attentive, accommodated last minute additions to party & didn't seem to mind us being last customers to leave
I was so excited to visit Charlie Bird as I had heard so many great things about the restaurant. The service was very good, but I must say I was a bit disappointed with the food. Several dishes we had with our party of four were over complicated in their flavor. Our palates were confused and not in a pleasing or exciting way. We had 4 appetizers and 4 main courses and while some dishes were very good, the expectation was so high for this food that we left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed. The Anelloni was delicious but the Farro salad had so many flavors going on it was overwhelming to the palette and the Whole roasted chicken was very bland and not nearly exciting enough.
Simply amazing! My daughter and I enjoy sharing as many dishes as we can when we try a new restaurant. Every dish that came out was amazing. Razor clams and the scallops in browned butter are a must. I could have eaten the Farro salad as a meal, great flavours. Corn is in season so that made the hot buttered corn definitely worth having. And then there's that little thing they do to the focaccia bread. I think they grill the bottom in olive oil to make it crusty, delish! Servers were very attentive without being overbearing. Sharing is the way to go!
We were recommended Charlie Bird by a relative and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing and the cool vibe was like nothing we've experienced back home. Definitely recommend!
Love this place! Music is great. Food is creative and delicious. Looking forward to trying entire menu!
I was truly wowed by the Charlie Bird's offerings! Its not very often that you get to experience food cooked with such refinement & finesse without pretense, but Charlie Bird has managed to do so while making it appear all very effortless. An enthusiastic two thumbs up and bravo to the Charlie Bird team!
As it should be, the food is the main star of this restaurant. But no star can shine on its own and service and setting were all impeccable. Wine list is great - and they offer fantastic wines at all price points. We had a $45 chianti that was great. Enough to order 3 of them. The faro salad appetizer, octopus, duck pasta, spaghetti nero and chicken were all completely delicious. All in a comfortable and casual settting. Everyone should check out this place at least once. And did I mention the amazing music? Hip hop 90s. Love.
We've been interested in Charlie Bird for some time, because it's just down the street from us and has been getting a lot of good press. But it's always mobbed (and is really loud at night), so we made a lunch reservation. Good choice: very relaxing and quiet. The service was pleasant, though a little slow. The menu was fun and different. Highlights: excellent prosecco-by-the-glass. The caramelized cauliflower was amazing, with a good mix of complementary flavors and textures. The desserts (apple cake and panna cotta) were exceptional. Not so good: the tomato/basil gnocchi was rather bland and overly-acidic; reminded me of supermarket sauce. But on the whole, we had a really good experience and will definitely return.
Let me just start off by saying that the music here is the best. Awesome 90's hip hop and rap. They played songs from The Chronic, and lots of Pac. The pastas here are exceptional. We had the Rigatoni and the Duck Egg. Great dishes. Then we had the chicken which was superb, and the mint peas which I loved as well. I can't wait to go back and try the Capellacci and The Rabbit. My only complaint is that the drinks were overpriced. But I really like this place. I loved the vibe so much that if the drinks were better priced, I would come hang out at the bar on the regular. Great spot.
Everything was absolutely delicious! There were five of us that ate lunch there and everyone loved their food! The service was attentive and knowledgeable too. The only complaint I have is that it was a hot summer day and because they had their windows open there was no where to go to escape the heat. So we were sweating the entire time as ate..which isn't fun. Wish there had a designated area with air conditioning that you could actually feel. Otherwise the place is great!
Went here for lunch on the weekend. It has outdoor tables, but they also have those glass walls that fully open on a Saturday, so nice to sit inside and still feel like you are outside. My husband and I had oysters, farro salad, gnocchi, and focaccia with figs. Everything was excellent, but the farro salad was the best farro I have had in my life, and the focaccia with figs was to die for. The place itself is set up nicely, casual but with some unique touches, including the music being hip hop and rap of my youth. I loved the place. I'll definitely go back. It's perfect.
Took my girl friend here on her birthday and had an amazing experience. The music was awesome, good old school hip hop, the ambiance was great and the food and wine was superb! I would recommend this place for any occasion, but especially if you're looking for an amazing dinning experience that doesn't have to cost a fortune (it wouldn't have minus the bottle of wine, which was out of this world as well!)
Laid back, welcoming and hip space. Service is knowledgeable, professional. Soundtrack is 90s hip hop, like my ipod was plugged in! We sat outside for a late lunch. Still/Sparkling provided on the house. Kept hearing about this Farro Salad (and who the heck says "have the Farro"?). Excellent and so creative - farro, pistachio, mint, parmesan fava beans - all ingredients work to lighten the farro; fresh and filling start. Carrot salad - roasted heirloom carrots, ginger - another flavored/light winner. Mains - veal pastrami (didn't hit a deli on this trip, so had to) - peppered, with home made mustard, the spice was cut amazingly by the cucumber and pickle salad. Another KO. Grilled calamari which was cooked well, but didn't blow our socks off.
Food is overpriced. Can definitely find better food at less exorbitant prices. Portions are tiny. Husband left hungry.
Place is trying too hard to be trendy. Indoors was too loud so we decided to eat outside. Every single dish we ordered was too salty, so we won't go back and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
