Charley's Steak House - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
I did love the food and atmosphere however my friend and I were trying to catch up and talk, the servers have way too much involvement with the diners. We didn't want to be rude but we had to ask the server to curb all the chitter chatter about the food and how it is prepared! We appreciate it but I just want it on my plate! lol! so I cannot recommend for a business meeting or a quiet conversation because we didn't get a chance to speak to each other with all the interaction the server is required to give. Maybe the diners can be asked if they want a breakdown/presentation of the entire meal 1st then it can be a nice evening for everyone and we don't have to feel bad for shutting the server down
Anyone who knows me knows this is hands-down my favorite restaurant of all time. I sometimes make up excuses for occasions to go to Charleys because I just love it so much. Best steak ever and so is everything else. The staff treats everyone equally and is so friendly and good at what the do. Can't wait for my next visit!
We went for Valentine’s Day. We usually skip going out that day because the restaurants are chaotic. We were very pleased to be seated quickly. We have fantastic un-rushes service and the food was delicious. Everything we had was fantastic.
Thank you for another fantastic meal!
The service was incredibly slow. It took 30 minutes before the waiter even asked to take our order after being seated. I ordered my filet medium well and it was so red and almost purple that I didn’t eat half of it. My husbands wagyu steak was absolutely flawless. We ran out of our drinks to where another waitress filled it for us. I understand your busy and on Valentine’s Day but the service didn’t match the Caliber of the menu for us. When the server boxed up our food, for some reason, he put the bag with the boxes of food on the floor by the booth. I’ve never seen that before. My husband also said the server overfilled my water initially and just tipped it and poured on the floor. (The same floor that my bag of food was placed on at the end of the night) I’ve only been to a handful of restaurants to this quality and it was the most bizarre experience I think I could have imagined.
The service was exceptional, as usual. My husband's steak was perfect and his drinks were spot on. My steak, however was not at the quality that was expected. It was fatty and a very low quality cut. The management at least acknowledged the error and corrected the bill. Will definitely order my husband's steak next time.
I recently celebrated Valentine's Day with dinner at Charley's. It was my first visit. Having previously experienced Eddie V's, Council Oaks and Flemings, I had my doubts that Charley's would measure up...I was absolutely wrong about that. Both food and service were impeccable. I can highly recommend the bone-in Angus rib eye as one of the better steaks I have ever eaten. Also delicious was the Alaskan king crab, shrimp cocktail, sautéed mushrooms, au gratin potatoes and caramel cheesecake. I also think that Charley's is a great value for your dining dollar. It is old school at its best. I highly recommend it and intend on going back again and again.
Troy and Patsy were great, food was awesome, the white oak and citrus wood really made the steaks stand out! My wife got the Kansas City Strip and I got the Waygu Beef Filet in truffle butter, it was worth the $15 per ounce price. By far one of the best steaks I have had. Also the Kettle Fries were amazing. If you want a drink get the custom old fashioned, by far one of the best old fashions that I have had next to South Beach cocktails.
After our last 2 visits being less than stellar, we were about to stop making our go-to for special occasions. Had money left on a gift card so decided to give it one last try. This visit will have us returning. We were seated in a different room than where we've been seated in the past. Don't know if that made any difference but we had a great time and a great meal. We split everything, a bottle of Pinot Noir, an escargot appy, the salad and a surf and turf special. Everything was spot on. Escargot was scrumptious, the salad was the typical very good Charley's house, and the filet and Madagascar shrimp were perfect.
Just one comment in general about Charley's and it bothers me every time I hear the opening come-on about their meats. They lead with "we have Prime meats". The only thing on the menu that is prime is a prime ribeye. Everything else is choice. Not that that is bad but don't mislead people.
Have dined at a number of other steakhouses in Tampa and felt like Charley's fell a little short compared to the others. Apps were a mixed reaction--crab was difficult to remove from shell as it shredded when trying to dig it out and was not all that tasty; colossal shrimp were huge and delicious. Steaks were nothing special, were overly salty and not that tender. Our experience at their Orlando restaurant was much better. Maybe just an off night but at their prices, they can't afford off nights!
I absolutely love my experience the waiters was very friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the menu. The presention of steaks was excellent. The drinks was very good. It was my wife birthday and the waitresses made her feel real special. Im going to visit again.
Charley’s Steakhouse is the best steakhouse I’ve ever been too. What’s shocking though is that they continue to impress me every single time I go. The food is simply amazing and worth the price. The waiters are always friendly and education. The drinks are well made. Definitely an amazing place with amazing food! I would recommend everyone try this place out at least once in their lifetime.. watch out though... you may just end up continuing to come back! :)
My wife's review says it all. Also on their Facebook and Yelp pages.
"Given a gift card as a wedding gift. After having been to the likes of The Rusty Pelican, Prime 112 and Smith and Wollensky in Miami Beach, I had certain expectations for an alleged “top notch” steakhouse. The two person seating was uncomfortable and low lying. My husband is 6’2 and I’m 5’9 and it felt as though we were sitting Indian style. Our server was no better than a used car salesman. Everything was about pushing the upsell for EVERYTHING. Someone has to tell this guy to let the service and the reputation of the restaurant speak for itself.
My husband and I are rarely drinkers, maybe the occasional one. When the waters were empty we asked for a refill, that didn’t come until an hour later but you KNOW they pushed the liquor. I just wanted my water. When I was finally ready to order my drink, the server was too preoccupied to take it. Had to wait until my meal was on the way.
The appetizer was underwhelming and the lettuce in my salad was wilted. The bread was burnt and not appealing. My husband ordered The mixed grill and I ordered the 8oz filet. “Do you want the 12oz?” “Do you want the lump crab” If I wanted the 12oz, I would have ordered the 12oz. If he wanted the lump crab, he would have asked for it. The steak was good, the seafood was good. Everything else left much to be desired.
When we decided we had enough, we were ready to pay. Handed the server our credit card and the gift card. His pompous self looked at us “Oh......... uou have a gift card?”
Someone tell the servers to ACTUALLY listen to what the customers want and stop redirecting their order. Stop being pretentious when someone hands you a gift card.
Bottom line, used car salesmen pushing steaks and wilted salads. Unable to give proper customer service.
Charly’s is a great fine dining steak establishment. However this time around our visit has made us think twice before we visit again. We came for a nice early valentines dinner and it was so loud and we were sat right by a birthday party, four women were so drunk by the time we sat down and continued to drink and get louder as the night went on, ruining our evening. We will probably just find another restaurant that serves good steaks and is a bit quieter.
We dined with Charlie’s because my wife and I were celebrating 10 years of marriage and it did not disappoint! It was amazing! The best steak I have EVER had in my entire life, cooked exactly the way I ordered, and the wine, sides and dessert were fantastic! Would definitely recommend to a friend and we will be going back! Loved every minute!
Took my boss and one of our other EVPs to Charley's for dinner. We had a reservation and were taken to our table after a short wait. Our appetizers, salads and dinners were excellent. Also, the atmosphere was classy and the ambient noise level was low, allowing us to have good conversation at a normal volume. Overall, great restaurant experience and I plan to go there again during a future trip to Tampa!
