Charley's Steak House - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
This was quite possibly the best steak I have ever had. I had a ribeye cooked medium and the quality of meat mixed with a bit of charring on the outside certainly made this a meal to remember. I have been to a couple other award winning notable steak places in the area and I will say i have only had one other steak that was on the same level.
Everything was outstanding! From the beginning, starting with the smoked old fashion, the gator, and the filet with the shrimp/scallop scampi. Finishing off the evening with the chocolate cake! It was the perfect date night! Vinny our server did an excellent job.
My husband and I went to Charley's (our first time) on the advice of a dear friend to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful time, the food was amazing, but the service (Michael) out-shined everything and was absolutely impeccable! Everyone was so incredibly attentive and so very gracious to let us know that they knew that it was our anniversary. They absolutely went out of their way to make us feel extra special. We will definitely return❤️
Ordered the 20oz filet, rare + it came out cooked to medium. I showed the waiter he agreed it was far past medium & took the steak back to the kitchen 10 minutes later they bring a steak that was “extra rare” cold all the way through the steak basically the cooks sarcastic response to me sending the steak back. I let them know the steak would need to be cooked a bit more to get it to rare + 10 minutes later again a manager brought the steak out still extra rare I had them box it up and said I’d be better off cooking the steak myself. Unfortunate ending to a 4 year relationship with this restaurant. I will no longer be a regular at this Steakhouse.
We tried various things on the menu all fantastic. The U2 shrimp paired with the filet was incredible!!! I could have eaten 3 of the U2 shrimp!!! The bison rib eye was also incredible. The sides and the house salad were also excellent.
The presentation of the meat and desert cart are the old steakhouse feeling!!!
I'll be back again!!!
I have been to Berns and Charley's is every bit as good with a much better ambiance. We had their signature Old Fashion cocktail. Delicious! Angus ribeye with Oscar topper. Melt in your mouth perfection. Plus a side of broccoli and roasted garlic. Perfect evening.
Charley's has been one of my favorites for some time. It hasn't always been consistent but they fix or try to fix those issues. This was a good experience and certainly, I would be back.
Highlights - my nephew loved his first experience with Wagyu beef. However, the waiter misrepresented the product. It is NOT Kobe beef, but Wagyu. Comes from the same area but not Kobe. I am a stickler for details and especially beef.
The shrimp cocktail was excellent. I could have stood more heat in the cocktail sauce but then again I did not ask for hot sauce.
Annoying - my nephew has pretty pedestrian tastes and for an appetizer he wanted bacon. The first round of interaction was frustrating and a bit put off. Everything is premade, the bacon is wrapped around the scallops, etc. The second round, just after my shrimp cocktail was a delivered, was a little more direct - my nephew wants a bacon appetizer and I'd like to know why he can't get it, hinting manager. Several minutes later - a plate of bacon appeared.
Different - the "french fries". Battered wedges of potatoes, deep fried with parmesan cheese sprinkled on them. Tasty.
My complaint - Charley's says they are one of the top ten steakhouses in the US. So what's up with serving choice grade beef. Everything should be prime - that is what the other 9 serve.
Overall, food was good. Although, for the price, I would want great/amazing. My husband ordered their signature filet, and that was undercooked (cold center, purple, some would say raw). My filet was cooked as asked. Cheese bread was a nice addition. Sides were good and service was great. Although, when my husband asked for assistance with his steak it was brought back without much consideration. My husband use to be a server back in the day and was very upset that they simply throw away their dessert tray display without offering it to staff.
I eat at Charley's fairly often. This experience was sub-par. We had the fabulous filet and requested medium-rare. It came over done. It was dry and nowhere near the quality we're used to from Charley's. My son had the ribeye and had the same experience. Service was outstanding, as usual. For a $500 dinner, it was disappointing but, based on prior experiences, I would give them another shot.
Overall experience was exceptional! The server was top notch and very knowledgeable about every facet of the meal.....the bone in ribeye was nothing short of excellent! A little on the pricey side but the quality was impeccable....would highly recommend this establishment to anyone!
Started out promising. Bread and salad very good. My steak was also good, but my wife's lobster tail difficult to cut and had little taste. Others in party said entrees were good, but not superior.
Our server was not particularly attentive.
For the expense, I probably won't go back
Service was very good, our server very knowlegable and attentive. Steak Tatare was lacking of taste and really did not come close to how Tatare should be presented or taste or look like. meat was ground very coarse and not mixed well together with ingredience.
Veal Chop was cooked at correct temperature but lacked of taste and flavour. We found Restaurant area near exit/entrance very dirty, refrigerator with pre-cut steaks in it was filthy dirty and covered with mold and slime. This was very unappetizing. We only saw this on our way out.For a Restaurant Of this category one would not expect to see such filth.
If you're going to a "top rated steakhouse" and paying these kind of prices you should be getting USDA prime steaks not choice grade. Also, I'd prefer to have a thicker cut option then what is offered. Overall everything was okay including the chicken breast and tuna my wife and daughter ordered. The Kansas City strip steak I ordered was flavorful, however, the three sides (mash potatoes, fried green tomato and garlic broccoli) were all a bit underwhelming in execution. Service was good but the best thing was the dessert, the carrot cake was amazing!
