Charley's Steak House - Tampa Ratings and Reviews
The meal was good, but not great. I've eaten excellent Kobe and Wagyu from different restaurants; The Kobe I had at Charley's was uninspiring and I felt that I would have had a better steak ordering a filet or ribeye. At $15 an ounce, 6 oz. minimum, you are not getting value nor a steak that will amaze you.
Birthday dinner for my husband did not disappoint ! Management and wait staff actually read my requests on my open table reservation and acknowledged the birthday and seating request . Food was delicious and we enjoyed our leftovers the next day . The filet mignon and the veal were flavorful and render . The roasted cauliflower was huge and delicious , a different preparation than you would normally see .
Only negatives .... They charged for the birthday ice cream and the small lump of truffle butter on top of the filet was $7 !
Overall , terrific meal !
Awful service, once our drink order came we were never asked again for a refill or something else to drink, I literally had to find my server. We had reservations for 18 people we were given one server, not like they didn't have time to prepare for a group of this size Food came out so cold the butter would not melt on the steak. Once the steaks did come out the server gave almost everyone the wrong steak at the wrong temperature. One person was very specific that she was allergic to glutton and asked for no butter on her steak and it came that way anyway. We did not even get all of the side dishes as they had to be removed from the bills. Many were very disappointed as this was their first time visiting the establishment and vowed never to come back. Server seemed to know we were all locked in with 20% gratuity and didn't make any attempt to go above and beyond. Very sad evening. We were not even offered if we wanted dessert, once the table was cleared of plates we all got our bills.
Charley's is the premiere steak place in Tampa. I like to better than Bern's. The steak selections are top shelf and the preparation is spot on. Sides are creative, plentiful and tasty. Wine list is exhaustive and ranges from budget friendly to top end. While they offer seafood and other options, stick to the steaks as that is what they do best. Service is great. The restaurant is spacious and not too loud so if you wan to have a conversation you don't have to yell at the members of your party. This is a top end steakhouse so be prepared to pay for the experience.
Service and atmosphere was fantastic. Price was a little steep considering we had to send my girlfriend's steak back twice due to it being undercooked. I asked for mine medium and it came out as medium rare which was fine, I don't personally mind if it is cooked more on the rare side. My issue is that I spent 125-150 dollars on dinner and drinks for 2 so the least that could have been done was to cook the steaks correctly. We are not the type to send food back but when you ask for a steak to be cooked medium well and it comes out rare, that is a problem. I'm not sure I would go back based on our experience. The food was ok but way overpriced in my opinion. Our server was fantastic and can't say enough good things about her. Even though the food was a bit disappointing, the service was great and I had no problem tipping her 25% on our meal because she was so great
Great steaks and lamp chops plus very good wine! The salmon looked crazy with a coating of cheese but it was delicious underneath. One of our party tried the Wagyu steak and said it was the best steak that he’s ever had! Our server, Joy, was excellent and i think the steak presentation encourage some to order different cuts than they normally would have gotten.
Haven't been there for 9 months and learned that my favorite filet mignon is not any longer juicy and as soft as butter. But it came in combination with a large shrimp, which was delicious and made up for the disappointing dry tough filet mignon. Anyway I guess something had changed and not for good.
Charley's never disappoints. If you want the best tasting steak in the area, this is where you need to go. People will rave about Bern's, but Charley's has the best flavor, and it's a better deal. Do yourself a favor and go to Charley's when you want to celebrate a special occasion.
I’ve never been to a proper steakhouse in Florida, but this one definitely fit the bill. The ambiance was rustic, homey and beautiful. The service was spectacular, and the food was amazing. My boyfriend and I both got steaks that were cooked perfectly. I definitely recommend!!
Very disappointed. First I had reservations for four people and at last minute my son wanted to join us so we ended up with four adults and one 8yr old granddaughter. First they tried to squeeze us into a booth and everyone saw that was not going to work. So they put us on a table in the Bar. Now myself and my fried are both Veterans and that is the reason we came to get the free filet that was offered to Veterans. We are both lost some of our hearing and we could not talk to each other due to the noise. The employees knew that we were Veterans and no one even acknowledged that we were Veterans. Why were we put in the bar area especially since we had our 8yr old granddaughter with us. Very unprofessional
I am from Cleveland, OH and enjoy going to Charleys to
celebrate anytime I am in the Tampa area; enjoy the friendly servers, enjoy the food snd enjoy the ambience.
I was disappointed to find on my receipt last night that
there were 2 separate charges for Truffle Butter side dish
for a grouper entree and another for a steak entree.
What is all that about? Never ordered it that I recall and/ or was never told about an up charge of $7.00 per each one. I will know and remember next time I go to
Charleys and now you will too!
Our waitress was amazing, but the food was not impressive at all and made my husband and I very sick that night. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass which was the most unimpressive sea bass I’ve ever ordered; it was small, flat, dry and over cooked with absolutely no flavor, sauce, or butter. My husband ordered the American Wagyu (Medium Rare) and had to send it back because it came out too rare to eat. Then when they brought it back they got it confused with another guest at our table’s steak and they didn’t realize until after a few bites. We will not be returning or recommending this steak house to anyone.
The service was great and timely. The side items were perfect. Our steaks were OK. They cooked our steaks for the opposite person so my wife got a steak that was medium rare and I got a medium well. The steaks tasted fine but bordered on the side of bland according to my wife. I had truffle butter with my steak and thought it was fine. We will certainly try again.
We celebrated my husband's birthday at Charley's and it couldn't have been more wonderful. Everyone that approached us recognized his birthday, making him feel very special. We received a wine tasting of the 2 featured wines, selecting a bottle of one with our meal. The presentation of the different steak cuts was impressive and so informative. We both ordered the porterhouse meal, with sides to share. The food was outstanding and had such large portions fur the price. We couldn't possibly eat everything and were not upset that we had to take lots home. Our server Shelley was phenomenal. She was very attentive and engaging, but not overly so. Shelley answered all our questions confidently and her personality added to our wonderful experience. We will definitely be back!
Charley's Steakhouse is one of our favorites and never disappoints. We were dining with friends who had never been before and they were impressed with the quality of the steaks and great service. They had the ultimate surf and turf and loved the steak. They said that the lobster was a bit overcooked and I tried a bite which was definitely dry. This was pretty minor but would give me pause to order lobster in the future.
The dining area we were in this time was quite noisy so that speaking across the table required a raised voice to be heard. This was a bit off putting but isn't a reflection on the restaurant as much as it is the other patrons. As a whole, it was a great experience and we will definitely return.
The good news was we were seated on time.
Waitress was on time and well versed in her product.
Then it all went south with excessive bar noise, slow food delivery, and more bar noise.
The salads were warm and basically 'wilted' lettuce, but the cost-extra blu cheese was a treat.
My steak, ordered as med rare, was raw (good news here I was 'comped', but, I rather the meat was properly cooked and delivered in a timely manner)( Very slow delivery to the table)
Our quests had the lamb chops(declared 'excellent') and the crab cakes(declared as
Through it all was a never-ending cacophony from the bar!!
I was told the bread was 'wonderful', a plus for the evening.
Overall, with the costs incurred(expected to be expensive), and value was less than expected.
We had a great time!! We gathered for a friend's birthday dinner and found out we had a separate private dining room just for us which the birthday guest was THRILLED about. The service from Suzi and Nick was awesome, fun and engaging but also professional. Many of the guests that came out were first timers at Charley's and I know they will be back.
Thanks for another great dining experience Charley's!
We celebrated on Saturday day night my son and husbands birthday. We had a very nice table by the window looking out into a scenic garden. It was the first occasion we have had to dine at Charley’s. What a fabulous surprise! My husband was excitedly anticipating the steak and it did not disappoint! All five of us loved the entire meal...
Crab cake , scallop, calamari appetizers and salads.
Ribeyes and filets and the many sides we shared.
Service was top notch. Our server Jeremy took excellent care of us.
We will definitely return again soon. Thanks for a memorable evening!
