Charleston Ratings and Reviews
Having eaten at high-end restaurants before, I found the food to be fine, but not outstanding. We took the three-course menu, followed by dessert. That amount of food was MORE than enough. The meal started with an amuse-bouche. It would have been kind of the waitstaff to ask if there are any food allergies or dislikes before serving. It is quite uncomfortable to reject a chef's creation and it mars the experience when one cannot partake in it; other high-end restaurants where we have dined have normally asked about food aversions or preferences and provided an alternative amuse-bouche.
For the ordered meal, my spouse and I ordered different salads. They were both fresh and flavorful. This was followed by a risotto (for my spouse) and a chanterelle tart. They were fine, descent flavors, but nothing spectacular that made me feel excited about it. The main dish was beef and for the portion size, I was dismayed about the amount of fat it contained. My husband left a third of his already small portion (perhaps 2oz) on the plate because it was riddled with fat. The composition was nice enough, but again, nothing that made me say this was an exceptional experience.
The desserts were outstanding! We had the chocolate pot de creme and the maple cheesecake. This was accompanied by the chef's selections of 2 kinds of mini macarons and a white chocolate with currants. Each was fantastic! I'd honestly return for just desserts and coffee, but that's not what the restaurant is about.
With respect to the staff, each was kind, polite, engaged, appropriately paced to our tables, and attentive. I did sense a little bit of pretentiousness, but that's not to be unexpected at a restaurant commanding the prices it does. The dishes served on were gorgeous! I was thoroughly delighted seeing those works of art.
Overall, having eaten at famous restaurants in Basque and Catalonia, I would have expected a more artistic, intriguing plating for the price point set for the experience.
The food was outstanding and our only regret is that we didn't try other items on the menu (although we felt well-fed after the three course option, we could have squeezed a fourth in).
Moreover, the restaurant was very accommodating to us, even though we arrived over one-half hour late and had to leave at a set time for a concert (we did call ahead to let them know).
Bottom line: great place and we can't wait to go back!
Excellent food and fabulous dinner service. The lobster bisque was amazing. While the ambiance was nice, my only dis-satisfaction with the evening was the temperature. We were seated directly below a vent blowing cold air on a cold evening. It cycled intermittently and I was freezing. Though brought to the attention of the staff, no change occurred. Everything else was wonderful; however, for the price of the evening, I think that a concern like that should have been addressed.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. I love the tasting menu and how you can customize your dinner to suite your desires. The atmosphere was fancy but not pretentious. The wait staff was friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The wine list was amazing. It is definitely pricey, but totally worth it for a special occasion like a anniversary or birthday. Loved it.
The halibut in beurre blanc sauce with mushrooms was definitely my favorite dish although everything was delicious. The service was outstanding; the mere mention of leaving my glasses in the car and a tray of reading glasses appeared for me to choose from. When we let them know we were pescatarians, they changed the amuse bouche to a scrumptious fried oyster. Love this place!!
Prepare to be impressed! Dining at Charleston is an experience you will never forget. Each dish has layers of flavor and texture. The service is beyond outstanding. We loved the scallops, crab cake, shrimp & grits and passionfruit creme brûlée. I will be back!
Celebrated a birthday dinner with a good friend of mine. There were three in our party and everyone enjoyed their food and the service. Our server was Danielle and she was excellent. I had the lobster soup, snails and lamb. Dessert was bread pudding and vanilla bean ice cream. Chef Wolf and staff are to be commended on food and service. Looking forward to dining at the Charleston soon.
Fantastic restaurant! I loved the “tasting menu “ concept. You order from 3-6 menu items in the order you prefer. Plates are not small , not large. My wife and I did three courses in addition to a “cheese course” and desert. That was more than plenty for us. Other than the very top restaurants in NYC, (Daniel, etc...) one of the best restaurants we have been to......Very Good food, service and ambiance!
First class as always. It just does not get any better than Charleston. The food was amazing, the service was wonderful and the whole experience is exceptional. You walk in knowing you will not be disappointed because such careful attention is paid to every detail. I only wish I could afford to go more often.
This is a very special occasion restaurant and we enjoyed every minute. Put yourself in the hands of the sommelier and wait staff and enjoy the superior food, wine, and service. Be prepared to spend a lot, but it was worthwhile for an evening you won't soon forget.
