White Asparagus season!!!
And I took full advantage of it!
The Lobster Bisque with Asparagus was delightful and the Veal Cordon Bleu stuffed with the Black Forest Ham and Asparagus with Sauce Bernaise made my tummy very happy!
We have dined there for years. It is the same wonderful food and friendly proprietors. The service is excellent and the ambiance is inviting and great for any ocasion.
Had the halibut and it was absolutely fabulous! Great restaurant for foodies but reasonably priced especially if you get the weekly Chef’s Special.
Consistently great food from good people! Maria and Chef are as real as you find, and their food is unique and world class!
One of my favorites. Great food and good service. Always nice that both Johann and Maria give their patrons special attention. Johann does an excellent job with white asparagus, when it is in season. One thing that I like is that I can eat there and enjoy something that I wouldn't see at other restaurants.
Oh, we also enjoyed the flatbread with mushrooms. Excellent suggestion as a starter.
Wonderful service and the food was outstanding
Extremely slow service. Food was not good. The Wienerschnitzel tasted like chicken nuggets. We are used to fine dining and know good quality of food. This was not. Chefs wife is the server and she is the ONLY server, there are a couple of helpers. Hence the extremely slow service. The “Caesar” salad had strawberry vinaigrette. Need I say more.
This restaurant has become one of our favorites. We do not eat out much, but this is always first on our list.
New seasonal menu items were delicious. Veal Cordon Bleu and white asparagus were excellent

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. We were celebrating my dad's 90th birthday. We are from Germany and the Weiner Schnitzel was great. Great food and great service. We couldn't have chosen a better place. We will be back.

It is always a pleasure to come back here. The food is just amazing and absolutely reasonably prized. Keep in mind, that Chef Johann became almost a Michelin Star chef. I love it.
Three of us had the special Mitzi-ball soup, sorbet,red fish, cheesecake dessert. One of our guests had venison. We all order the risotto as a first course and it was superlative. Everyone enjoyed each course especially the sauces.
The one distraction to the lovely evening were the three large screen Tvs each on a different channel it did not fit the otherwise attractive ambiance.
The food was really good but the service was the highlight.
Our first visit. We took some friends who had been here before, years ago. I always like a menu that has many choices. It makes me want to come back.
The bisque was excellent. My wife ordered the "Original" Schnitzel and I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel and we shared both. I liked mine better. The rye bread and schmear were perfectly matched. Even though it is an hour and a half drive, we'll be back on our next trip into the city. The service was just right; not hovering, but prompt.

Had not been here in many years; glad it was as good as I remembered. The food is Continental and distinct; the common denominator is that it's good. The space is nice without being elegant, and there's room to talk without practically sharing a table with adjoining diners, and the noise level is a soft murmur instead of cacophony.
We went here for Valentine's day. They had a 5 course tasting menu. After the second course they completely fell apart. It took 45 minutes between the 2nd and 3rd course, we didn't get our 4th at all. Overall the meal took over 3 hours. The manager then refused to comp the course we didn't get and insisted on giving us a gift card. I'm going to give it to a homeless guy.
I think this is a good restaurant in terms of the quality of the entrees. I appreciate that the chef planned an interesting 6 course dinner. The problem was the lack of simple options. Most multi course dinners I have enjoyed offer diners a choice for courses where an allergy or preference is common. The problem is that my wife did not want a creamy soup and many people do not want cream based soups or gluten entrees, but that was the only choice. A salad would have been a simple alternative.
The service was the other challenge. I understand that wait staff must learn on the job and it just turns out that unfortunately it was our waitress's first day, but she was clearly put in an impossible situation. It really is important for the senior staff to accompany the wait staff until they know the basics (like what the wine list means, not the actual suggestions, but that the prices are per bottle, etc). The other issue was that the meal was actually coming out at a normal, expected pace, but our waitress kept apologizing and asking us if we were ok. We know that a 6 course meal takes 2 hours or more and we were there to enjoy it.
Overall, I think this restaurant is a mismatch in terms of food quality and atmosphere/service. The food was tasty but I think the "front of the house" needs a total makeover in terms of appearance from the menu design to the decor and the wait staff needs additional training.
I hope this does not sound too "snobby" but to put it in perspective, the bill for 2 that night was over $300 and with that comes the expectation of a special meal.
Great and interesting European food.
This was our 2nd visit to Charivari. We dined there last year and the whole experience was perfect. We were looking forward to dining there again, but this time the night was not so good. Not only should the food be delicious, but the ambiance, and the wait staff on stellar. Charivari is a "mom and pop" place. Co-owner Chef in the kitchen, the co-owner Wife in the front of the house. The food was OK, not special. The Wife was flustered and frowned the whole night. She was genuinely having a bad night which was projected onto the customers. No specials were told to us, and you could tell that the front of the house was struggling. Hate to say, but we won't be going back; too many other restaurants to try.
We’ve been coming here for years and this restaurant never disappoints. The food is amazing and it’s nice and quiet. Always enjoyable!
The food was great. From appetizer, entree, side dish and dessert.
I’m confused by the glowing reviews and the core of obviously repeat customers here. The space is a big, open rectangle dimly lit by CFL can lights. The carpet looks and smells like it was cleaned, but not replaced after the flooding in the area.
There is one woman who is the combination server/bartender/FOH manager. Support staff includes combination runner/bussers and a hostess, for a total of 5 FOH to accommodate a seated capacity of around 50-60 diners. So expect glacially-paced service. All were pretty friendly, but obviously overtasked.
A sad-looking four tiny half pieces of bread is served in a basket that holds an entire loaf. I swear one of the pieces looked like it had a thumbprint embedded in it. A small ramekin of a pretty tasty spread accompanies.
The $25 “caviar service” was served with undercooked blinis and way too much sour cream. A nice, if not icy, spiced sherbet is served as a palate cleanser. The accompanying mint leaves looked like they could be harvested and re-used in the uninspired “mojito” we ordered.
My Jaeger schnitzel was tasty, but not worth the $26 price tag. My wife’s $28 shrimp scampi was riddled with veins that hadn’t been removed, bereft of garlic flavor and slightly burnt.
We were not happy with the experience and the very pricy tab at the end of the meal which we had to beg to receive, then wait again to pay and finally couldn’t wait to get out.
It is always a special treat when we chose to go to Charivari's so we don't go on a regular weekly or monthly basis. The food was as great tasting as every along with the presentations.
We went on a Saturday night and found it to be very busy. I do believe they were a little short
on wait staff and that was obvious in the stress of the staff. Hopefully that is only a temporary situation and we will have a better experience the next time as we have been going there since they opened over 17 years ago.
Still one of the best. Service is attentive without being cloying, food is always tops, ambiance is old world where you can enjoy conversation with your table mates without shouting!

This place has been consistently outstanding through the years. In this occasion I order a Berkshire pork chop. The best I have ever tasted anywhere. As usual, the service and ambiance are excellent. This place has to be one of the best kept secrets in town! Bravo for them!

An excellent continental restaurant with personable owners. It is quiet and easy to talk. Some of the best dishes are salmon and wierner schnitzel.

We have come to Charivari for Christmas Day lunch twice now, and will likely make it a tradition. The menu is wonderfully diverse; the wine choices are very nice, and there is just a warm, family sense to the entire experience. There is care in everything. It feels personal, and we value that.
Our visit to Charivari was blindly decided. We had never heard of it and wanted to try something new to start off the new year. Our reservations were on Christmas day and our party was impressed by the quality of our meal and the great service we received on such a special day. From the moment we walked in the mood was festive yet elegant and presented with class. Many thanks to all who worked to make our Christmas special, you are appreciated!

Excellent quality of ingredients, superb preparation, beautiful presentation. A restaurant where substance matches style. Tucked in a somewhat out of the way location, but worth finding.
