We had dinner before a show at the Music Hall and we let our server know as soon as we got seated that we had a time frame to work with because of the show. We asked about ordering the prefix menu (we allowed ourselves 1 1/2 hours for dinner) and whether or not the kitchen would be able to handle that or if it would take too much time. Our server said the kitchen would be fine, it would just be up to us if we would eat fast enough. Against my better judgement, we took his advice and each ordered the prefix menu. The food was fabulous, but the service was not timely enough to enjoy that meal in the time we had allotted. I really wish the server would have just said that the prefix menu is better suited to a 2+ hour dinner and is not meant to be ordered otherwise.....
Bottom line - the food is fabulous!!
Fine downtown venue; not crowded after post-work rush.
We were very disappointed with our meal at Charisse. I had hoped the trout, which I always enjoyed, was still on the menu but the only fish was salmon, which I had just eaten earlier. My husband and I both chose the lamb rack, in my case because it was gluten free and I liked the vegetables listed: zucchini, squash, fingerlings, tomato. The lamb was okay but hard to eat; the vegetables came as a sort of ratatouille, mixed and soft and indistinguishable. I found a couple of bits of fingerling. My husband may have found one. This was not a good preparation. Also, our plates came with three large triangles of something I asked my husband to sample and identify. He couldn't. They were fried pita, which didn't belong on a gf plate. Not a good experience.
I went to Charisse for the first time this week for happy hour. The duck wontons, grilled shrimp, and the pork sliders were all delicious. I plan to return and hope they will incorporate more vegetable options to the menu. $5 glasses of wine were reasonable, too.
What a great experience and Hidden Gem! Sara provided us with excellent fun service. The food was amazing from start to finish. We enjoyed the 4 course meal with wine pairings. For first courses we enjoyed duck wontons, crab cakes and Mussels. All were delicious and above our expectations. Our second course was the best cesear salad we have ever had! The fried egg on top made it so special. For entrees we had the filet and strip steaks. Both were excellent. For dessert we had the flourless chocolate cake. Also delicious! The wines were all perfect and special. Sara was knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations. We enjoyed everything about our evening and can’t wait to go back and do it again! Thank you CHARISSE!
Second time there in as many months for lunch. Food is pretty good and there is a nice selection. My burger was a bit overdone but others in my party said there selections were excellent. My biggest complaint was the server; kind of snippy, brought check without asking if we wanted anything else, such as coffee or dessert.
A new spot for us! The bartender was also our waiter and he did a phenomenal job! Excellent service and amazing food. I’m excited to go back!
Nice quiet place to meet for lunch. Great food and service.
Great food and great experience. The poblano cheese soup was excellent.
Excellent meal. My only small critique would be there were not a many classic French dishes on the menu as I had hoped.
I had lunch at Charisse in March 2019. The food was excellent. Also, the service was fast, allowing for lunch in an hour if your time is limited.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Good price for a four course meal too.
Ok, this is one of the most uneven restaurants I have visited. On the latest trip (4 previous times), had a reservation for 5:30. Arrived and was told by the bartender that it would be a few minutes (in spite of other staff members casually milling about). Waited ~10 mins to be seated and was slightly annoyed. Then quickly realized that the server was acting as bartender, hostess, busser, and server with 4 tables seated. BUT she was quite capable and paced her service perfectly. The ribeye in the steak frites was mediocre quality, and the escargot was ok. The French onion soup and the crab cakes were quite on point. Service was good but spread too thin, food was good, but not over the top "take you to heaven" good. Will visit again, and hopefully this restaurant will live up to its potential.
Excellent food and service. The cocktails were also very good, we went for hh before a rep performance and really enjoyed it. The desserts are delicious as well.
Always great food and service. Quick and the best place for a working lunch.
Great food. Great location. The cook accommodated our personal New’s wonderfully. The staff needs to smile more
This was a great place to catch up. The atmosphere was perfect. We could easily hear each other. Waitress was wonderful - easy to work with and she was very patient with us as we tried to focus on our selections.
Always a go to when I’m in KC
Based on the restaurant claiming to be French and good reviews I had high expectations. Bread was stale. Wine overpriced. Steak frites smothered in salt. Won’t return.
Nice effort but missed terribly on service and food. Service was stiff and unhelpful with menu and drinks. Onion soup average. Bolognese whimpy. Salmon had a strong, Ive been around a bit too long, flavor. We so wanted to like this place as we really like the chef but someone needs some direction to make this place work and wait staff needs trained .
I've had dinner at Charisse a few times but not lunch. Very enjoyable! Good food and a little more casual offerings than dinner; excellent service and the parking at 1000 Main was really convenient. Definitely recommend this place!
This was seriously the most amazing experience. The ambiance was fantastic and the food was even better. We've eaten everywhere and this place is definitely in our top 5. We highly recommend it!
This place is awesome. Great food, great service. We had the prix fixe menu with the wine tasting, and it was phenomenal and extremely reasonably priced.
Great lunch and look forward to returning for dinner.
EXCELLENT FOOD. Not too bad price wise. Nice staff. Would eat there again. Best ribeye I’ve ever had.
LOVE the charcuterie board here. Everything I’ve ever had here is delicious
Great environment, menu, food and service.
Although the location may appear daunting for parking, the 1025 garage is connected, easy to get to, and with validation, makes heading there for lunch simple.
Environment is modern, cozy and casual and maybe what I'd call bistro style (meaning French Bistro).
Food was prepared perfectly. The apple/chicken salad was delicious, not overdressed, greens were fresh and had a nice mix of ingredients.
Great food. Charming atmosphere.
Loved the ambiance and the small, well-curated menu. Our food was prepared perfectly and the drinks were interesting and delicious. Our server had zero personality. Not one bad dessert on the menu!
Excellent as always
Nick was our server during lunch. Our meals came out quick and accurate. The quiche & salad was amazing as usual. My co-worker steak was prepared as requested. Highly recommend this place for lunch,.
The wine pairing made our night. Food was good, service made us feel rushed. We had to force them to slow down. Liked the small size restaurant.
Awesome place!!! One of our favorites in all the city. Staff is great, food is unbelievable and you feel like you're in the city when you're here! A must try!!
a good way to end the year; food was really good and the music low-key so we could converse without anyone having to talk loud
We celebrated at Charisse for a NYE dinner. It was divine!
Jason has an amazing restaurant, and I'm so glad my fiancée and I got to indulge. We will be back for certain.
We stopped by CHARISSE for happy hour before our concert at Sprint Center. We made reservation for 5:30 pm and got seated right away. However our waiter did not offer us the happy hour menu until I asked for it. He was not enthusiastic about us ordering from happy hour menu. He needs to improve his service skills. The foods were executed well.
We had a marvelous time at Charisse to celebrate my 50th birthday. Our server was so kind and thoughtful. When they ran out of ingredients for my cocktail, I told him surprise me and he brought the best Pisco Sour ever. He took a lot of care and patience in our loud group and I appreciated it. The ribeye for the steak frites was tender and flavorful. The frites were over the top fantastic. Everyone at the table literally scarfed them off my plate. I recommend the mussels provencal. The broth is so rich and silky. Perfect for dipping your bread after you eat a mussel. I also recommend the charcuterie plate for the table. Savory cheeses and meats artfully presented and go well the craft cocktails and wine. This is my second time at Charisse celebrating a special occasion and I love how they treat their guests and really make you feel special. I am a Francophile and can't get enough of their perfect modern realizing of French classics.
Enjoying dinner with my daughter before attending the Nutcracker at the Kauffman.12/22/18.
