CHARCUT Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time in Charcut with the place having a good vibe . The couple I invited were retired with the lady having a birthday that day . I specified this on the reservation & spoke to
the person who called in to follow up the date & time . I had expected as I had ask for this small token of a candle at desert time . Nothing was done & I didn't bring this up because it was a minor request .
The restaurant for us was too noisy but the food & service was very good . Will go again but with a group of younger people . Thank you !
The food was excellent and we were glad that the waitress suggested eating family style. Left feeling full and happy. The server was quite pushy with trying the upsell menu items/dessert and the bill at the end was higher than we initially expected. Overall, would recommend for a special occasion - the prime rib was divine
Well first of all I guess the restaurant failed to confirm that I was there, because I received a nasty little note from Open Table that I was a no show, which was obviously incorrect. I had to go back and request that they correct this so that my reputation was not adversely affected.
As for the experience at the restaurant I can say that I would not recommend it. Service was so, so..... the menu items were rather strange to the point where my friend didn’t find any entre to even order. Limited wine list.
This restaurant has by far the worst wine list I’ve ever come across. I shouldn’t need to spend $100+ for a bottle of wine. And even then it was just average.
We looked through the menu and seriously struggled to select anything. The octopus and tuna small plates were good and the bison brisket however my fellow diners didn’t rate the food or choice... sorry.
Reviewers rated this high, which is why I chose it. But we won’t be back. So make up your own mind.. it’s a thumbs down from us.
we were there midweek. Not very busy. Our waitress was very good and made good suggestions but we felt she was distracted as she was always looking away while speaking to us. we had 3 starters, the oysters, tuna and octopus. Enjoyed each very much. it was the mains that brought the food down. Prime rib was average fish pieces were over cooked and Rotisserie chicken way too many fries. Ended with the salted caramel which was very good. What really got us was the bill. 3 people with wine and drinks over $150 a head. Not worth that price.
Charcut was a lovely restaurant and I enjoyed our meals. The server Amber was exceptional, very warm and friendly. The food was wonderful as well. I would go back but it definitely IS NOT your value priced chain restaurant with complimentary salad or bread. The food quality is the value not the quantity which was good for myself but might not be for the next person.
apps and main were very good, desert was way over price for what you got. I had the cheesecake and it was great, but for $12 , it should have been the size of the caramel chocolate desert. That would have justified the price. What I had would be considered a sample, NOT a main.
My other issue was how loud it was in there. We almost had to yell to hear each other, plus our waiter had a thick accent which made it even more difficult to understand at times.
Once seated, water was brought to the table promptly, but we had to ask another server to find our server so we could order food/drinks after waiting 40 minutes. When he arrived he said he had been watching us and that he didn't see us look at the menu - we'd done this in the first 5 minutes of being seated. When our food arrived, 3 of the plates were great, but one was cold and swimming in some sort of grease. As we'd been waiting so long and had babysitters waiting at home, we didn't say anything, but we won't be back and won't recommend Charcut going forward to our friends.
The service was poor, the food was ok. The server forgot one of our dishes.
They never came to check on our drinks.
I have taken my team after a regional conference, hoping to close the night in a high note , the experience was so mediocre that I will not recommend the restaurant & I will return.
I didn't think they value the customer business & the engagement on to services was bellow basics.
The server name was Edison 1043.
Great sevice and lunch at Charcut! We went family style and ordered several dishes to share between 3 of us. We started with the fresh tomato salad, loved the mint. Then Lunch all at once, with the super tasty beef soup, two different sandwiches, the pulled rotisserie chicken with wild boar bacon as well as the shaved Alberta prime rib were both very delicious. Love the mustard and the Parmesan fries as well. Then we also shared the amazing mac and cheese comfort food dish! We each got a bag of chocolate chip cookies, which we saved until later as we were all full up. We will definitely be back!
Not enough vegetable options. I found that the one salad was over- priced for what was offered. The borccoli raab was amazing.
The meat dishes were perfect
We have gluten allergies and we could hear the chef yelling out that there were gluten free dishes. That made us feel great that they cared that much.
Our server was attentive picked up on the smallest details.
An excellent choice for lunch with a business colleague: Charcut's "Lunch All at Once" options arrived within 10 minutes of us being seated, allowing time to eat and talk while still letting us finish within the lunch hour. The soup (creamy beef vegetable) and sandwich (pulled pork) were both excellent -- tasty, well-seasoned, and hot. Service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. At $16, the meal is one of the best values for a quality lunch in downtown Calgary. The only drawback is that the dining room can be rather noisy when full, which can make conversation difficult (although it depends on where you are seated). I'll be keeping Charcut on my list of restaurants for business lunches!
The restaurant is in a great location with modern furniture and a great menu. The host that greeted me and my colleague was indifferent and sat us at a cramped table without asking if we had a preference even though we were one of the first in the restaurant to be seated for lunch. We had to cheer up the waiter, he was also indifferent. The food was good. The person who brought our food brought me cookies to go even though I asked for gluten free o[ptions. The food was great but the experience is not one I want to repeat. Too indifferent and impersonal.
Love this restaurant when we're in Calgary!
Location is ideal and food is hearty and tasty and well seasoned:). BUT not a fan of NEW menu...favourite salad is gone, replacements too expensive for what you get and food is very salty (ie. soup) New chef perhaps???
I will go back and give it one more chance!
Customer service is exceptional!!!
Great for family celebrations!
