CHARCUT Ratings and Reviews
We went here for a Valentine’s meal. We had lamb. It was very tasty, could have done with more vegetables but overall very good. Deserts were great too. Service felt rushed and we moved tables as seating was uncomfortable with a pillar poking in my back. Wine was very expensive so opted for a cocktail and beer instead. Overall a good night out but ambience and waiting staff need to fit the good quality food and not quite aligned.
Had the lunch special- you get soup, small sandwich, heap of fries, pickle and bag of cookies (2) all at once for a very reasonable price. Meat, of course, is expertly prepared. Soup was also delicious, cookies very nice, fries are superb but the Parmesan dusting is a little odd, as it hardens before you can eat it so it crumbles off. I think just skip it or get something that will adhere to the fries.
Husband noted that the tomato jam is super sweet and would be nicely paired with a more spicey/savoury option for dipping, for contrast.
Drinks are terribly expensive. No lunch feature drink.
Tables are too close together to have much privacy but the decor is classy.
Lady at the front was very friendly.
Our server wasn’t really. Marched by when we had paid on the machine and grabbed it without a word as he passed. Didn’t return to say thanks or anything.
Everything was very enjoyable from the ambiance to the food. We did question why we were sat next to the only other couple in the restaurant on a Sunday evening. There was space elsewhere, including kitchen views. We just felt a bit awkward right next to the only other diners in the restaurant at the time. Also right next to the window is a cold seat for a couples' night out.
Food was great, atmosphere was awesome and cozy. Our server was very friendly and very knowledgeable but if there was one downfall, perhaps 1 or 2 more server(s) would have helped to have a little more prompt assistance. Otherwise, everything was fantastic.
Gen. Manager and staff were wonderful and the duck fat poutine was a delicious surprise for a side dish. The best moment of the evening was the Desert soooooo incredible and mouth pleasing. Our Waitress was awesome and knowledgable about all aspects of the Restaurant. Gonna be telling people about it.
Came for our anniversary. My partner is a celiac and we were delighted with all the gluten free options for appetizer, main, drinks and dessert! Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and the service was exceptional. She even helped us find a live music place to go after the meal! For our first time, Charcut was quite impressive and we WILL be going back!
I was unfortunately hit with a bad tummy mid-anniversary dinner... however, had we had the opportunity to stay and enjoy everything we had experienced up until our departure we would have left just as pleased and well taken care of. Our waiter was so considerate and helpful getting us out of the restaurant in a timely fashion! Thank you!
Charcut is a classic. There will never be anything wrong with the food or service. We ordered way too much meat ☺ The only problem is when you get a 2 person table and you order as much food as we did. There's clearly a lack of space for it all but it's all good.
We were first seated at the table right next to the door, but the host was accommodating and moved us to a less ‘high traffic’ table when asked.
The food was very good. I’d like to try other items on the menu, so I’ll be back.
Suggestion for improvement: tighten the leather backs on the chairs. I felt like I was in a recliner when I sat back.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Last visit was very dissapointing. Fish of the day cod was covered in spices to the point it didnt taste or look like fish. The root vegetables were not a pleasent side. The pork dish was also covered in spice and hard to believe it came off the rotisserie. Biggest dissapointment were the fries. The parmesan fries used to be thin, hot, and crispy. These were thick, bland and cold. The tomoto jam was really sweet i dont remember it like that.
Unless my tastes have changed, i was disappointed.
Very nice room, good service and nice wine list. The meal was underwhelming. Starter sausage skillet was disjointed (jalapeno maybe could have been charred?) and not worth the price. Mid course rigatoni carbonara with guancale was tasty and I would recommend it to those set on dining here. The feature steak sadly had not been seasoned and the salsa verde lacked punch.
Great food. The waiter was amazing he enjoyed his work and it showed. Found prices a little high but for the location they would be in line. Did find the place a little noisy that said it was New Year’s Eve so everyone was a little louder than usual and there were a few parties there. I would definitely recommend as a great date night.
Nothing worse than coming in from the cold and being greeted by a stuck up hostess. No smile no,friendly greeting. Why? Because she doesn’t look up from her screen. “Hello” and “how are you today” were both delivered without so much as even making eye contact. Call me old fashioned but hospitality and greetings are best executed when looking at someone. My server was okay, attentive without being welcoming. As the hostess said to me “we are VERY busy you know ...”. Sounds like the line from Pretty Woman. The front of house staff here are too cool for school. I left the standard 15% tip because the back of House excelled. Food was great and fast, I received my meals before I could even get my glass of wine. Wine was lovely but that credit belongs elsewhere. The kitchen carries this place. But not enough to recommend it. Great food elsewhere in Calgary with great servers too.
Services was awful. Waitress was very rude, impatient with our questions, and rarely came to the table.
Food was almost inedible - two diners ordered the steak special, and there was so much lemon in the sauce it was absolutely overwhelming. Tasted more like ceviche than steak.
Internet was down, so they would only accept cash and credit card. There was no mention of this until the end of the meal when she didn’t explain it but demanded a credit card.
Then she never came by to pick up the slip (with ALL our credit card info) and was so rude when I asked her to pick it up.
Will NOT be returning.
