About this restaurant

  • Great for fine wines
  • Good for special occasions
  • Lively
Charcoal Venice is an inviting neighborhood restaurant from Michelin-starred Chef and Owner Josiah Citrin that was inspired by the backyard barbecues he hosts on weekends for his friends and family. As the name suggests, everything is cooked indoors over live fire – whether over charcoal or in the coals. Citrin and Chef de Cuisine Dani McNish prepare a seasonal menu of craveable comfort foods featuring locally-sourced proteins and vegetables ideal for sharing family-style. Whether diving into a platter of smoky grilled chicken wings with a beer or classic cocktail at the bar, or splitting a 48 oz. dry-aged Porterhouse and a bottle of Bandol with friends, Charcoal Venice is an everyday dining spot.

A Shocking Decline – Worst Steak We’ve Ever Had We had one of the most disappointing dining experiences in recent memory—especially for a steakhouse we used to enjoy. After waiting 45 minutes for our steak, what arrived looked promising: a dry-aged bone-in ribeye, ordered medium. But from the first cut, it was a disaster. The steak was so tough our knives couldn’t even get through it. After finally sawing off a piece, the taste was just as bad—like poorly handled or spoiled meat. Completely inedible. We let our server know, and while he did take it back, his only response was, “We won’t charge you for it,” as though that did us a favor. We didn’t come for free food—we came for a proper steakhouse dinner and didn’t even get to eat. The manager eventually stopped by and said, “Heard you didn’t enjoy the steak,” in a tone that was completely detached and unbothered. No check-in with the kitchen. No gesture to make things right. No comp on drinks or starters- nothing!!Just poor service and total indifference. This place is no longer what it once was. Completely mismanaged, and it shows in both the food and the attitude. Avoid it.

Not family friendly. This place is an absolute disaster for families! Our table is practically in the middle of a bar scene, with people getting wasted and cursing right in front of our kids. The management's response was a joke - "it should quiet down soon"? Are you kidding me? We packed up our food and got out of there as fast as we could. Never again will we set foot in that place.

The food and drinks were delicious. The service was great! It was just a little warm in that back table but besides that, my son’s birthday celebration was amazing.

The food was excellent, but the ambiance was underwhelming. The space feels more like a Houston’s chain than a unique dining experience. The makeshift back patio with astroturf wasn’t particularly inviting either—though I will say it was quiet, which was a plus. I expect better for a Michelin restaurant.

The food? Phenomenal. The smoked and roasted duck was a total standout—tender, deeply flavorful, and kissed by just the right amount of smoke. Patrick went with the prime rib, and it was perfection—juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to a beautiful medium rare. We also tried the oatmeal stout, which was dark and smooth, with roasty notes that tied everything together like a dream. And the sides deserve their own spotlight. The broccolini had this smoky depth with a slight kick of heat. Our server, Sam, made the whole experience even better—friendly, easygoing, and full of great suggestions. He never rushed us, and somehow made the evening feel both special and laid back. The rest of the staff was equally warm and on point. Charcoal Venice is that rare combo of unforgettable food, good people, and serious atmosphere.

The steak was undercooked twice snd a lot of gristle We waited almost an hour after our side dishes were on the table for a new steak Side fudges were not very warm either Very noisey and obviously not a good place to have a conversation With a steak that cost $75.00 it is definitely not worth the money
