Food was excellent! Great atmosphere....however we had a reservation and our table was not ready at the reserved time. Waited 20minutes before it was ready.
Taylor was a great server. Knowledgeable on the menu and very helpful and friendly.
Great experience. Food, setting and staff were all excellent
Once you understand the restaurant multi-purpose setup, finding your way to your table is a breeze.
Food is impressive, wine list is adequate, and servers are attentive.
First official date was a success based on the meal at Charcoal Steakhouse.
Service was excellent but the steak wasn’t worth the price.
The food was really good our service was great it was pretty busy so it took a while to get our food but the meal was honestly superb
Thank you for the excellent service and the awesome food. Best Thanksgiving meal in recent years!! Special thank you for awesome candles to Kevin!! Great evening.
Went for Thanksgiving dinner. Great caesar salad! Turkey was really dry but the trimmings were good. Pumpkin pie was like supermarket grade. Service was good but nothing special. Better for steak
The waitress was wonderful but the food quality was poor. The veal schnitzel meal tasted burned, crust was overly fried which made the veal rubbery and vegetable was blend. It was definitely over priced for the quality that we got.
Our experience was great, we had a delicious meal and enjoyed our night out.
Great food, perfect friendly attentive service, directly adjacent to the Kitchener Radisson Hotel. Good wine pairings. Restaurant is clean and comfortable. Decor is typical 1990’s steakhouse: Dark wood, brick walls, leather seating. Menu had good fish and vegetarian options. Wedge salad was a little “drowned” in the buttermilk dressing. Dessert menu is small with the typical cheesecake, apple crumble, etc., offerings. Tried the key lime cheesecake and the presentation was surprisingly modern, the taste light and tangy. Overall, value for money, food was fresh and properly cooked. Family friendly... several diners had young children with them. Would return.
After my friend mentioned we had been dining at Charcoal for over 50 years, our server Erin presented us with a complimentary dessert to share after our meal. Bravo Erin! This is what Charcoal is most special for.
Looking for a perfectly prepared steak? This is THE place to go if you’re in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Classy but not stuffy ambiance and service. Every morsel of food is perfect from appetizer to desert—you will not be disappointed.
Every food was salty. Steak was too cooked than I ordered.
Walked in on a sunday evening. Hostess turned us away stating that the restaurant was full with an hour plus wait. Went to the car and was able to book a table on Open Table. Walked back in and was seated right away. Several tables open. How does that happen? We were left to assume that the snotty hostess had a hidden agenda. Kitchen was backed up. Food took a REALLY long time. Staff was apologetic and offered appetizers. Good food but we've been soured by the experience. Probably won't be back.
Even after 60 years in business, atmosphere is lovely and service is excellent. Better food quality than a "Keg" experience and competitively priced
We had an amazing meal at Charcoal this past weekend. Andrew made us 2 special cocktails right at our table that were both delicious! I would recommend Charcoal to anyone looking for a great dining experience.
We came here for our anniversary and had the best experience. I had the prime rib and my husband had the ribs. Our starter was the cauliflower wings and I thought everything was delicious. Our server was amazing and attended to our every need. As a special surprise, they brought out a plate with "happy anniversary" written on it , accompanied by a flourless chocolate cake. We felt very spoiled. I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic evening, birthdays, anniversaries, or just an amazing dinner.
Service was speedy yet not intrusive, server was friendly yet sincere and funny, food arrived expediently and cooked to our liking! I especially like the fact they list a lot of their suppliers, most local to KW!
Felt maybe a tad rushed by our server but overall good.
Also too dark in certain seating areas could hardly see menu or food !
First time my husband and I came here. We wanted to go out for a adult date after having a baby a couple months ago. Very good food and outstanding service. Highly recommended!
Charcoal has been our "go to" for over 50 years. 7 yrs ago 8 of us went for anniversary dinner. Food was served ranging from warm to cool. Vowed not to go back. Wife and I decided to try once more. Ashley, our server, was excellent. Caesar salad was excellent. Wife's pigtails were good. My ribs with BBQ sauce (my normal order) were hard, over-cooked and were missing the BBQ sauce. Needless to say we were not happy. A return visit will probably not happen.
We enjoyed our night out at Charcoal. The issue we had was that our entree was brought to our table later than we were told! Our food was not hot ,as we like it. Patrons that came in after us were served their starters & entrees before we were served our entrees!!
Great meal. Celebrated my wife's birthday
Server was great
Excellent meal fir our grandsons birthday. Lovely ambience and awesome food thank you fir a wonderful evening
Great food. Excellent attention from our waitress.
Always an enjoyable dinner at The Charcoal Steak House.
Food was what you expect from a steakhouse, nothing spectacular. Service was just okay.
Excellent service staff, very attentive without being in your face, very friendly. Chairs were not the most comfortable, appeared a little too low for the table.
We hadn't been at the Charcoal for some years due to living out of the immediate area, but we were pleased to find that the traditional ambiance and excellence of food and service has been maintained. The staff people were very attentive to our slightly unique situation (I booked the occasion as "birthday", when in fact it was both of our birthdays; my wife on September 5th and mine on September 6th) and we were really treated well. We are moving back into the area and expect to be back more regularly. Very satisfied with everything.
The food was great. Service was terrible. It was work to get everything you needed to eat your meal. Getting information about food allergies and reassurance that there was no cross contamination concerns was extremely difficult. Waitress was inattentive, it’s bad when you have to ask for utensils to eat with.
Food was excellent. Service was great. A good amount of food for the price. Will definitely come back again.
We arrived early and thought we could have a drink before dinner. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who very efficiently put together tables for our group of 10 in the bar area. The service in there was excellent. We then proceeded into the dining room where we were shown into the private boardroom, as requested. This was just perfect. Again, the service was excellent. Our evening couldn’t have been any better. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely continue to come back as well as recommend the Charcoal Steakhouse to others.
We have visited Charcoal and your group of restaurants countless times over the years in fact I had accumulated 10,000 points on my bite Club and redeemed them. However, the last couple visits to Charcoal have not lived up to what we came to expect over the years. They were ok but not "great". The food, in this case Prime rib was less then expected. My wife commented "it's just not as good as it used to be" when I asked if she enjoyed our anniversary dinner. The staff was good and the Anniversary brownie was a nice touch. We will continue to frequent your restaurants but not sure about the Charcoal Steak House with so many options in the area.
It has been a while since I was at your restaurant, but from past visits; I can see very poor choices you have made on your meal and expected extras before the main course is served! I was extremely disappointed at the changes you have made with NOT providing bread or buns as an appetizer before a meal, The French Onion soup was a disappointment for $ 10 served as a cup a soup not even served in a proper onion soup bowl... The smallmouth onion soup bowls you are currently using now are a disgrace to this meal starter!! Poor Value!
The Steak I had was good, but getting too expensive compared to Golf's steakhouse pricing when their meals include a salad bar and soup: including bread. $20 for a glass of wine is way out of line. Golf's has you beat for my future business.
Had a great dinner with friends. The restaurant was extremely busy but the service was good despite being (understandably) a bit slower than usual. One of our party is gluten sensitive and the restaurant offered to adjust most items on the menu to be gluten free.
Charcoal Restaurant always has consistent quality meals and professional service. We dine here regularly for our special occasions.
Excellent service followed by excellent courses.
First timers, last timers. New to the area, with word of mouth and use of trip advisor we tried Charcoal. Lack of a better way to explain, it is what it is. Our server was excellent, good food, nothing in the WOW factor catagory, paying a lot of money for very simple dishes. I would of at least liked a simple complimentary bread tray for the amount of money you spend. In the end, unimpressed, nothing to write home to mom about.
