Server was excellent.
She brought a sample of the jalepeno soup as we were uncertain it might be a bit much (it’s delicious by the way, really good).
My prime rib came rare instead of med-rare, but they quickly remedied this, followed by a visit from the manager to ensure I was satisfied. It was also very good.
Fortunately the horseradish is the proper prepared variety (vinegar base) instead of the terrible creamed stuff.
Bar menu lacks a staple apple cider.
Overall, very good.
We were there for our 22nd wedding anniversary.
The meal (ribs for me) was fantastic and the service as well. We will be going back again and also recommending the restaurant to friends.
Had Taylor as my server, he’s the best waiter I’ve ever had, and the food was delicious and it wasn’t a long wait either
For my guest it was a first visit to The charcoal and she was very impressed with the food, service and atmosphere.
It was our first time to this restaurant, it was spectacular our waiter was fabulous food was phenomenal thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely come back again
Food was good. Waiter was a bit strange. Told us no bread due to increase in minimum wage and bad online bread reviews. We offered to pay extra but sadly - "No bread for you!"
Good service, nice atmosphere; good food overall; somewhat questionable cook on a couple of the steaks (medium rare was closer to rare; another med. rare was a tad tough). Quite surprised there was not a more obvious non-alcoholic page on the drink menu in this day and age. Glad staff asked about special occasion right away and kudos for providing a free dessert for the birthday boy who'd been coming for over 50 years! Glad Charcoal supplies grass-fed meat (easy to do in Ontario), but surprised they do not offer a "grass-finished" steak option--a top-notch steakhouse should carry the best possible, healthiest product (see Conjugated Linoleic Acid) even if at a higher price-point.
Overall it was good but I told the hostest it was my boyfriends birthday and i thought they would have given him some sort of celebratory dessert but they didnt....
Our server Robin was excellent. She always made sure we were getting the best service. I really appreciated that, I think it was the manager, came by to make sure our night was going well. This place had way better service than Cambridge mill we went to recently.
We have always considered the Charcoal Steak House for special occasions. It has a great atmosphere and elegance. However this time felt that the prices were too expensive and food not as good compared to other restaurants that have similar menus. We missed having complimentary bread at the beginning of our meal, the rustic mashed potatoes were rather thick and plain tasting ( I ordered the rustic mashed potatoes because I had had the twice baked potato on a previous visit and it was overdone so switched to another type of potato), my husband's french fries were soggy and not hot. My husband enjoys a garden salad but a "regular" salad was not on menu. Our waitress was friendly and engaging....however we were not offered coffee or tea at the end of our meal. The steaks were excellent and were done as requested. My sister enjoyed her brownie dessert in honour of her birthday and my husband enjoyed the sticky toffee dessert however my father ordered the apple dessert and said he was not impressed by it.
Great service from all staff! Food was excellent! Pricing is good for a great meal and comfortable dining room. Would highly recommend, one of the best Steak houses in the Tri-City area!
The oysters and snails were great and we enjoyed the steak which is what we came for. The sides were not to our liking, the giant baked potato was barely warm and the vegetables both uncooked and overcooked.
Service was excellent although it appeared our girl was a bit rushed.
Always a great experience at the Charcoal. The food was cooked perfectly and our server was excellent.
Good food, good service.
Dark & boring ambiance with high prices contribute to average value & experience.
Overall the dinner was not a great experience. The service was very, very slow. Found that we waited a long time for everything for drink service to bringing back required change from paying the bill. There was no bread offered on the table - this was a dissapointment for a restaurant of this caliber. It was kind of expected. We found that food portions were either very very large or extremely small.
I had not been there in a while and expected more.
Always a perfect evening. Our meal was delicious and on point and service was terrific. We are never disappointed and can’t wait to return. Thank you for the hard work and great standards by which you serve your customers.
Second time there, found it just as good as the first time. Friendly, efficient server, without being overly familiar. Food was great and had a nice leisurely meal, never felt rushed. We will go back again!
Always a reliable and consistent dinner.
We had Valentines dinner in Charcoal Steak House. We were advised there will be a Valentines special dinner menu, and we were OK with it, but in reality it was mediocre food, nothing special, and REALLY overpriced.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
The service was good. She made a mistake on our bill but then corrected it when we asked about it. I didn't think the meal was worth the cost of the bill. I probably wont be back in a long time. It is way to costly for a regular meal. I got the french onion soup for the starter, steak and mash for dinner. It was the Valentines Day Special. I don't think it was worth the $65 a person.
Food was overall pretty good .. I got the chicken and the centre was cold so it made me a bit nervous .. I just avoided eating it. Other then that it was good! Service was great
Six of us for my mothers 78th Birthday. Started off with some excellent cocktails. All meals ordered were wonderful from beginning to end with most in our party ordering the filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked. What made this meal exceptional though was the professionalism of our excellent server (wish I could remember her name) and from the manager who accommodated us with the birthday cake we brought in. He even had it fixed up as it took a bit of a tumble in the box prior to our arrival. It was a meal to remember and the birthday girl was thrilled. Would definately recommend for a special occasion.
Outstanding service! My boyfriend took me for my birthday and I had a great time there. The food was amazing and our waitress made our experience even better!
Best steak I’ve had in months. Totally worth the price. I need to get my hands on the peppercorn they use.
We just can't wait to come back! Our server suggesting the steak topped with salmon was spot on! Absolutely loved it.
We're regulars at the Charcoal Steak House. The steaks and sea food are always excellent. So, too, the appetizers. Service is friendly and prompt. Strangely, they have stopped offering a bread service, which is a bit disappointing for an establishment with $40--$60 prices. Usually the music is quiet and tasteful. This time the volume was too high and was turned down on request. More annoying was the selection, which was more suitable for a night club/dance party than for fine dinning. These two items lowered my over-all rating.
Great restaurant! Went with a few colleagues for lunch and was impressed with the venue, service and food. Our server Stella was amazing. So attentive to all our needs.
Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and service.
Great lunch , food was exceptional and service was perfect. Good wine by the glass selection
Service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant was quite busy but there was no impact on delivery of the food. The prime rib was delicious as was the shareable side of garlic shrimp. Price moderate plus. All in all a positive experience.
Prime rib was horrible. Too chewy and mostly fat. So much so the server even commented that it was really fatty so they cut a bigger piece. Still the worst prime rib ever.
Food and service were top rate. Waitress / kitchen was very accommodating of special dietary need. Thank-you for a delightful evening!
Our favourite restaurant for any special occasion.
Went there for our anniversary. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. I had the steak frites. It was odd that the steak came presliced but you could see it was cooked perfectly. The Parmesan truffle fries was to die for. It came with extra shavings of Parmesan which was pleasant surprise. My husband had the seafood risotto. The flavour was incredible. Plenty of seafood that wasn't overcooked. Just wished there was more rice!
my steak was average, expected a steak that would melt in your mouth, disappointed. the rest of the group enjoyed their meal. It was a Saturday night and it took over an hour to get to our main course. Noisy at the start but it quieted down after 8 p.m.
Service was top drawer and food was very good. A great experience overall.
The food is always excellent. The service and ambience can be counted on to make the occasion special. What is important is that the staff never rushes people to leave or hovers. Thank you for making each occasion a time to remember.
Our server Robin was excellent and made our evening even more fun. The food was expectedly fantastic. The Charcoal is a staple for a great night out!
I always have the beet salad with salmon added, so very delicious!
Love charcoal but was disappointed how rushed our meal was, getting our entrees before finishing our starters. The mushroom butter on the steaks we ordered was not melted (is it put on frozen?) and potatoes were cold. Not worth the money this time but have had better meals there in the past.
The atmosphere was casual and relaxed. The wait staff was professional and friendly, our waitress was a delight to talk to and very attentive. The manager made sure everything was OK for us. We were asked about the occasion and received a free dessert to share, very nice touch. We come to the area several times a year and make a point to have a meal here.
