Charcoal Steak House Ratings and Reviews
We have dined many times over the years at the Charcoal . I have found that over the years the prices no longer match the food quality, service or ambiance. It was quite loud. We waited 15 minutes before our drink order was taken. I have gluten inolerance and received very little help from the server. I order white wine with my soup and had to remind her. I got it shortly
before I finished my soup. Two of our party ordered steaks with loaded potatoes. (The steaks were very tasty.) The added $4 for the loaded potato was poor value. It had 2 or 3 bacon bits no visible chives or cheese and the tiniest dollop of sour cream. Hardly loaded. Our server was somewhat inattentive though friendly enough. She seemed preoccupied and didn't inquire about cocktails beforehand. Perhaps she was inexperienced. Over priced and under serviced. Oops.
Everything was great. We’ve been to the Charcoal many times but have found it to be too dark in the past. I thought it was properly lit on Saturday. I service was great and the timing of when things arrived was quick and efficient. I know some people like to make entire night out of dinner but I liked how they paid attention to our pace
I had the carrot, squash and ginger soup, with garlic-parmesan bread to start. Both were very tasty. The main course was the chicken and mushroom penne, which was excellent. Our server was attentive, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. I didn't try the wine list. I will definitely return next time I'm in the area.
Seemed they were low on food. Some items not available. The waldorf salad was just cabbage. About four miniscule bits of blue cheese. The salmon entree was about 3 ounces. Been there before and it was great but not this time. Our reservation was made as a birthday celebration but there was no acknowledgment of it. So why ask? Disappointed
Incredible restaurant that offers a warm atmosphere. The food is excellent and we often choose the French onion soup to start. The service (Stella) is first class and we never feel rushed. The steak is excellent and cooked to order with great and tasty sides. My husband ordered the house beer and raved about the three layers of taste notes present. We enjoy the Charcoal Steak House and you will too.
The atmosphere and mood of this restaurant is always classy yet laid back. I love that I can come here for my birthday and dress up but can also come here to catch up with a friend and not worry about the attire. During our dinner, me and my partner also mentioned how neat the location is - it’s right in the heart of Kitchener by Fairview.
P.s. The servers are always great as well as the food!
Food was fantastic. Our server Stella was lovely. Very attentive and made sure everything was to our satisfaction. Great appetizers and steaks were cooked to perfection. Liked that the manager came over to check on us. Nice gesture you dont see very often anymore. It was my boyfriends birthdat and they brought us a lovely dessert. We both had a very wonderful experience.
While not a "frequent" diner, I do get to the Charcoal on a regular basis. This is the first occasion that I have been disappointed with the overall experience. Too many items detracted from the evening. For example, our main courses arrived before the appetizers were eaten. The roast beef was not to order. Drinks were not refilled or offered. In short, we felt rushed on an occasions that should have otherwise been a casual evening.
We had a reservation for 12:00 PM Lunch. We were promptly and courteously greeted.Seated immediately and enjoyed incredible attention and spectacular service the entire time.
We enjoyed a delicious appetizer-Cauliflower Wings and the four of us all enjoyed our various lunch choices. Our water glasses were continually filled and we were well attended too.
The food was delicious and the value is great. I will continue to recommend the Charcoal Steakhouse as a guaranteed great experience.Paul Brown
Over all, we found thefood overpriced for very average cuisine. Dinner for four cost over $300 for ho-hum steaks, calamari that was tough and stringy (obviously frozen for a considerable time) and cocktails too expensive.
On the positive side - we found our server Morgan was very attentive and efficient
We may try one of the other restaurants affiliated with the Charcoal Group.
I made our reservations weeks prior for my boyfriends birthday. We had 7:30 reservations which we got there a few min prior to our time. As we watched several couples being taken to their tables the 6 of us patiently waited with no one explaining to us what the hold up was. After 15 min of waiting we were told that the 4 people at our table weren’t leaving. I told them that I made reservations and we should not have to wait which is the whole purpose of making a reservation. The manager said that they time slot each table for a two hr max stay but they can’t guarantee anything. Once again I asked what the purpose of making a reservation was. The manager could tell that I was getting upset as this was my my boyfriends first time going to this place and I wanted to make his birthday dinner really special.
After waiting we thought we would sit at the bar well we found a table but were told we couldn’t sit there bc we didn’t have a reservation and of course there wasn’t an actual spot at the bar. We left the bar again and the manager asked if we wanted to get a table at the pasta restaurant but still have their menu. I stated that we made a reservation for charcoal and I expected to sit at the charcoal. She suggested we wait in the heated patio area and she would come get us once our table was ready. We waited for over an hr for our table and had plans for a certain time. I am extremely disappointed with the service. The food was ok nothing special.
Over the years I have dined at the Charcoal many times and the food has always been very good. I usually order steak. This time the quality of the steak was not the same and also it was overcooked so I asked for it to be replaced.. The replacement was cooked to my liking but the meat was still not up to par. I had also asked for a side order of red wine demi-glaze , but what I got was not red wine demi-glaze. I know the difference, because I buy the demi-glaze from the Charcoal , whenever I cook steak at home. But the staff on the other hand were very polite and did everything to accommodate me. Not their fault. So overall I think this might have been a bad night for the chef and the kitchen staff. I will still eat at the Charcoal and recommend it .
