Charcoal Steak House Ratings and Reviews
We went to celebrate our 39th anniversary together. Both dinners were alright but certainly not what we expected from the Charcoal. Dinners were warm, not hot. My wife's dinner was to come with Brussels sprouts. She had one on her plate along with a bunch of sauce and small onions. When we told the waitress she smiled and laughed a bit and then just left us sitting there. Just not what I would expect for a $34.00 plate per person. The atmosphere is very nice. Will go back, think it might have been an off night - we hope!
The food was excellent, charcoal did not disappoint in this regard. I was, however, very surprised as to how casual the dress code has become. There was a time when charcoal did not allow any type of jeans to be worn and my mother and I felt a little uncomfortable since we were dressed up. The service was wonderful and we felt very well taken care of.
unfortunately, my chicken dish was raw in the middle and I didn't realize it until I'd had a bite already, which totally grossed me out. The other diners at my table had wonderful meals. Our server was excellent and very apologetic about the chicken. The meal was also taken off our bill, as I would fully expect. Other than the chicken issue, our time there was very lovely.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Charcoal and it meant the world to us that they asked us if we were celebrating something and acknowledged it with a little dessert and chocolate written note ! Those are the little special touches that matter so thank you !
The service was really good and the food was fantastic. They gave us time to relax and enjoy a drink before we ordered. The arrival of the food was timed perfectly and the manager came and asked how we enjoyed it. Because we were there for a special occasion they gave us a complimentary dessert to share, it was delicious.
My wife ordered steak and it was done perfectly (Well done).
The dinner rolls were delicious.
Both of us had the Caesar Salad and it was delicious, but a tad spicy.
I had the Prime Rib 8 oz done medium well and it was absolutely delicious.
It was a very nice touch when the Waitress brought a complimentary brownie to celebrate our anniversary. That is going the distance.
We would highly recommend the Charcoal to anyone.
We had a nice dinner with delicious food to celebrate our anniverary. The service from Samantha was amazing. As I watched over our little section it seems most of the staff are willing to go the extra mile for their patrons. Overall it is a pricey restaurant which is why I would recommend it for special occasions or for a business meal but not for every night. That being said they do not really serve everyday food either and as delicious as it is, it would be too rich for a regular meal.
Our first time at Charcoal, made the reservations online via OpenTable, noted it was our anniversary. Door staff greeted us by wishing us happy anniversary, as did server. Food was very good and exactly as described. Surprised us after our meal with lovely little dessert with Happy Anniversary spelled out in chocolate sauce. Service was spot on, friendly but not familiar, efficient, never felt rushed.
Only (small) negative; it's not a place for young children, their boredom leads to disturbing other diners, please get a sitter.
Absolutely amazing! Friendly, helpful staff, all making sure everything was excellent, enjoyable, and in my case, dairy free (I'm lactose intolerant). Wonderful suggestions from my server Erin, and the chef even got food from a sister restaurant to satisfy my needs.
The Cali Shrimp were the best I've ever had! And of course, I had to try the pig tails... Mmmm!
I highly recommend Charcoal Steak House!
This place is definitely on the decline. Beef Wellington starter was awfully bland. Steak was perfect, three bacon bits on my potato which was lukewarm, and vegetables were lukewarm as well. Service was second to none. I get better quality control at the keg.
It is 35 years since I last ate at Charcoal Steakhouse. In the past it was always regarded as somewhere very special and up-market. That is no longer the case. Dress code is not enforced as a guy in shorts and grubby tee shirt was close by. It was very noisy and the clientele not up-market. Price of drinks was totally unacceptable. Soup was so-so. Caesar salad was good and waitress split one salad on to two bowls. For entrée I ordered Cajun chicken based upon the delightful description. When it arrived it was actually chicken and chips - for $28?? At that it was a poor copy of Swiss Chalet. My wife's Thai Curry barely fit the requirement for a curry.
We were both pretty disgusted and will not visit again.
First visit and didn't know what to expect other then elevated "steak house" prices.
On entering the dining area it was a bit disappointing. We were offered a choice of booth or table and I asked for whatever was quieter. The hostess suggested the booth and went to seat us but I declined. They are quite large, could seat 6, and the one she offered us was next to the kitchen service door. She must have had a different sense of quiet. We opted for a table.
The room is dull, browns and yellows and could use some updating.
The server was very pleasant and made a good effort to ensure we enjoyed ourselves throughout the meal. We were there to take our time and enjoy the evening and she quickly got in step with our timing.
We started with a drink, she had a vodka martini and I a craft beer. They offer a couple of local craft beers but the bulk of the beer menu is from one of the giant brewers. A shame in an area that has many great craft brewers.
We started with oysters. The server had to go to the kitchen to find out where they were from. Pickle Points, fresh and delicious.
My wife wanted to have the prime rib as long as it was medium rare. The server checked with the kitchen and assured my wife it still was. I had the tenderloin, ordered medium rare as well.
My wife thoroughly enjoyed her main. The meat was to her liking and the accompanying vegetables enjoyed.
My tenderloin was tender but I found it closer to medium then rare. The crust was over seasoned to the point I thought it was pepper steak. The creamed mushroom was lost on the plate.
We shared a bottle of the Coppola Zinfandel which went well with the meat.
Desserts were a nice finish. She had the peach galette and I had the lemon tart.
In closing it was a $200+ meal. The food was enjoyed but not memorable.
