An uncharacteristically poor experience. We've been happily coming to the Charcoal Steak House for years but this time our table wasn't ready for us, then the service was incredibly slow and the noise levels were too high for our party to converse comfortably.

Prices seem way too high for the value of food. My husband''s steak was grizzly and my prime rib was paper thin. My son's larger portion of prime rib was okay but we were not overly "wowed" by the food as we were in the past. We drove 1.5 hrs to take our son here for his birthday and while the charcoal used to be our favourite because of the quietness...the ambiance no longer makes it worth the trip for the food/price.

Slow getting our order. Server was pleasant food was not what we expect of the Charcoal group. The cost of my meal was removed from bill which was great but again not the type of food you would expect from this Steak house.

I ordered Seafood risotto. It was only OK. There was too much 'sticky' rice which seemed too salty. The meal was only OK for what it cost and what it tasted and what it looked like. I would have liked to see more creativity by the chef when designing this dish. On the positive my husband's salmon was great as well as my son' s tenderloin, made to perfection.

Had the ribeye steak (priciest steak on menu) it was not enjoyable, grizzle throughout. Did not tell the waitstaff. When we were leaving we all wished we had tried Del’s instead.

My husband and I had dinner at the Charcoal (just the two of us) the day of our wedding. It was a wonderful, relaxing way to finish a perfect day. We had been surrounded by amazing friends and family all day, and this was the perfect environment to unwind and debrief our big day, while still feeling a little pampered. The service was excellent (friendly, professional, timely, helpful), and the food was delicious (big portions, too). Our server offered us free dessert to celebrate our wedding, too. We were treated warmly by all staff and were extremely satisfied with our meal. We'll definitely be back...maybe on our anniversary for a treat ;)

Our large group was a birthday party. Some of us were returning to Charcoal steakhouse and others were new. Our waitress was phenomenal, the food was excellent as usual. A good time was had by all.

Nice atmosphere. Food quality was very good. Pricey for a business meal. Stick to the lunch menu as the steaks from the steak menu tend to be expensive. Good use of seasonal, and I would hope, local vegetables.

Went to Charcoal Steakhouse for our anniversary, my wife had never been and had heard very good things.
Ordered three apps. Two were substandard.
The shrimp cocktail ($14.95) was a joke, we have done far better at home. Medium sized shrimp that had little or no flavour served on a plate in a very bland sauce. When we objected the shrimp dish was removed from our bill. No substitute was given or even offered.
The kalamari ($13.95) with mushrooms, peppers and green beans was covered in a batter that you could taste the flour it was made with. The dipping sauce was good, but the kalamari was dry and stringy. A this point I did not complain...
Beef Wellington($14.95) app was very good, full of flavour and well presented.
Medium rare prime rib ($30.75) was exactly that; no frills, a little tough but tasted good.
Creme brulee ($8.95) for dessert was very good.
Bottle of red wine ($47) was good, but not exceptional in any way.
I had an HW Warmer ($8.95), similar to a Spanish coffee, and it was good.
Total bill $127.50 before tax and tip.
Total experience was not very good. I could not give this place a recommendation. It cost me $170 to eat food that is not as good as what we prepare at home....the lone exception being the Beef Wellington appetizer.

First of all I like to say we don’t like to review negative but so much was off last night.Lets start of with sitting at the table for a good 10 minutes before being acknowledged.We ordered the all you can eat fish and chips,the chips were excellent(seasoning was on point)the tablespoon of coleslaw was bland and the tarter sauce tasted like warm mayonnaise.The fish batter was crisp and flaky on the inside but both ends of the fish the batter was so hard we had to use our hands because we couldn’t cut it with the knife.This experience is rated at a 2/5 .

We had an early dinner at Charcoal Steak House. The steaks were exceptional, and the service was very good. Nice job on the "birthday", with just a nice cake, extra forks and no singing...:)

I was told to go to this restaurant because it was supposed to be very similar to one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto which unfortunately closed. This institution was a staple in our city for over 50 years and had excellent value. An all inclusive dinner included all you can eat garlic bread, a salad, and a starter tray of pickles, olives and vegetables. Charcoal did not compare to the value received in the past. However, the food was good, and I will be back for special occasions. It was a nice touch to bring a complimentary dessert on the occasion of my daughter's graduation celebration.

Server was excellent.
She brought a sample of the jalepeno soup as we were uncertain it might be a bit much (it’s delicious by the way, really good).
My prime rib came rare instead of med-rare, but they quickly remedied this, followed by a visit from the manager to ensure I was satisfied. It was also very good.
Fortunately the horseradish is the proper prepared variety (vinegar base) instead of the terrible creamed stuff.
Bar menu lacks a staple apple cider.

Overall, very good.

We were there for our 22nd wedding anniversary.
The meal (ribs for me) was fantastic and the service as well. We will be going back again and also recommending the restaurant to friends.

Food was good. Waiter was a bit strange. Told us no bread due to increase in minimum wage and bad online bread reviews. We offered to pay extra but sadly - "No bread for you!"

Good service, nice atmosphere; good food overall; somewhat questionable cook on a couple of the steaks (medium rare was closer to rare; another med. rare was a tad tough). Quite surprised there was not a more obvious non-alcoholic page on the drink menu in this day and age. Glad staff asked about special occasion right away and kudos for providing a free dessert for the birthday boy who'd been coming for over 50 years! Glad Charcoal supplies grass-fed meat (easy to do in Ontario), but surprised they do not offer a "grass-finished" steak option--a top-notch steakhouse should carry the best possible, healthiest product (see Conjugated Linoleic Acid) even if at a higher price-point.

Our server Robin was excellent. She always made sure we were getting the best service. I really appreciated that, I think it was the manager, came by to make sure our night was going well. This place had way better service than Cambridge mill we went to recently.
