Charbonos - Avon
We had a reservation about 1 hour and 15 minutes before closing. Restaurant was not crowded. Orders were taken soon after we arrived but waited about 40 minutes for the meal. The bread served before the meal was delayed about 30 minutes due to 1st order was burned in oven. This was probably why the room was very smoky. Server did not come by table very often to check on our beverages. Another Server said under her breath that the delays were due to shortage of staff in kitchen. The meal itself was very tasty. I would like to return to see if poor service was typical or a one off.
We moved from Avon four years ago. When we travel through Indianapolis, we have a lot of restaurants to choose from for just one meal; Charbono's is the one!
We had a reservation and there was no table for us until about 30 minutes after our reservation time. At that point you would think a manager may stop by and apologize. No staff seemed to care. Our server was just “okay”. Only refilled drinks once and seemed less than thrilled to be present. We dine at all the Cunningham group restaurants because we love the food an atmosphere. Charbonos has always seemed to lack in “service”. This Mother’s Day was no different. Kinda disappointed.
I think Charbonos is usually pretty good. But, I took the wife and kids there for Mother’s Day and was disappointed with our visit. Everyone has a bad day, but I was bothered by the waiter forgetting part of my wife’s meal. She ordered a special they were offering and they forgot to bring her green beans. After a while I flagged down our server to ask for the missing side dish and it took about 15 to 20 minutes before they were brought to the table. When my wife tried them she ended up pushing the plate away saying that they tasted like some kind of cleaner. The manager offered her a free dessert because of the mixup, but after tasting the green beans, she was ready to leave. I ordered a prime rib. The steak was decent quality, but a little bland tasting. The aujus and horseradish sauce were bland. We spent about $40/plate and I believe this particular trip wasn’t worth half that.
We arrived earlier than our reservations, but were seated immediately. The staff was attentive, but not bothersome. My two grand daughters enjoyed their children’s menu choices of penne pasta and chicken fingers with fresh fruit. The four adults each had wonderful meals! My daughter and I enjoyed a lovely house salad with cranberry poppyseed dressing! Outstanding! We filled up and were able to enjoy another meal at home thanks to carry out containers provided. A very nice experience for all. The staff, I know was tired from the busyness of the day, but were very cordial and always had smiles on their faces! Well done!! Cheryl
Mother’s Day - what we didn’t know was they do a special brunch that went from 10 am to 3 pm - our reservation was at 2:45 - ok no big deal let us get the menu - server cared less - said we had 15 minutes to server our selves and menu no allowed ... so got our drinks and rushed thru the meal (happy Mother’s Day)
Server was flippant and cared less - managers seen worried about clean up - then as we left saw other moms get a flower - apparently my wife (and mother of 2 ) didn’t deserve it and not offered.
Be honest got to the car and got mad at the disappointment on my wife’s face so I changed in and got her a flower (guess not out) front desk was like well we are busy (gabbing and chatting 3 ppl no wait)
Normally I like this place - but buffet brunch and holidays they suck and charge way to much to be rushed and not taken care of
We had three generations at this meal - 11 yr old, an adult couple and grandmother. We were originally seated in the bar area at a high top. Grandma simply couldn't get up onto the stool and it certainly wouldn't have worked for the up and down required of a buffet. We let the hostess know and were quickly reseated to a booth with no issues or delay. The service the entire time was good. Food was good, not great. "kids" food wasn't really kid friendly and I'd recommend some more basics, such as pancakes/French toast/waffles. Most other food was of great variety and good. The deserts were excellent! We would definitely return for this event.
Mother’s Day brunch. Loved everything about it!
The food and service were good. The bar drink was not quality I expected.
We have eaten there several times and always had a positive experience. This time they were out of prime rib by the time we ordered (6:15) so I got the NY strip. It and my potato were lukewarm at best and boarding on room temperature. The steak had excessive amounts of charred particles stuck to the steak made it taste like I was licking the grill. They also served our steaks without any steak knives. We had to get someone's attention to bring us cutlery. In the past it has been awesome. Not this time. We usually go for my birthday and I may try someplace else this year.
Steak was delicious! House salad was fabulous!!!!!
Dinner was delicious. Our service was quick and the atmosphere was nice. My filet was cooked perfectly and really tender.
There were 7 of us, and they got us seated right away. Food was excellent and price was reasonable. Great place to eat.
This was my second time dining here with my family. The service was exceptional! There are lots of , made to order, dinner options! Fresh salads and pizzas are our favorites!
We love having a nice late night dining option in Avon. Whether it is a quick appetizer or pizza, it's nice to be in a great environment with always spot on service. Only complaint is why they would serve pizza with the crust so undercooked that it is limp when you pick up a piece? We usually ask to have it "fully cooked" and that makes a difference. Clearly if you forget, it is coming out limp.
This is my first return to Charbono's and unfortunately it started with a disappointment. I went there for their outstanding walleye dish only to find out it had been replaced on the menu. My wife and I brought another couple and at least two of us were ready for snapper.
Otherwise the meal was fine. At age 69, I find what you call "energetic" to be annoying. I think your restaurants are overly noisy for the quality level of the food that you serve. That is just my opinion and I am not asking you to change your successful formula...just know that many of us find it a hurdle that must be jumped in order to enjoy dinner at your place.
Great place to visit. Food is great and so is the service so what more could you ask for? Thanks Charbono's.
Shrimp cocktail and French onion soup outstanding. Steak was cooked properly. French fries were not greasy. Snapper was very dry and hard to cut with a knife. Broccoline and asparagus were mush.
Great service!! Only 2nd time I have been there and did not disappoint either time
We arrived early for our reservation and were seated in what I would consider the party children's section which surprised me with other seating available. The food was pretty good and served timely but our waitress was young and not exactly as attentive to her tables and surroundings as I would of expected . If in town again I may give another try but there are many other good choices here as well.
Always good food, good drinks and good service. Highly recommend Charbonos to my neighbors, family and friends.
Nice place. Cool interior. Relaxed atmosphere. Food was well prepared and well portioned. Nicest place to eat in Avon IMO.
Waiter was give cash and card. Charged full price to my card and pocketed the cash.
4/21/2019. Easter Brunch
Laura our server was Great, always around when we needed something. So happy to see Elizabeth working for your restaurant. What a all around great night
My wife and I eat here on occasion. Sometimes it's great and sometimes just okay. We had Christian as our waiter. He did an excellent job! Food was very good, although my broccoli could have been cooked a little longer. Overall, still love coming here for dinner.
Much to noisy to have a conversation
Love coming there! Always good service and excellent food.
Usual, good food, nice place, good service. Overall volume in restaurant was too loud. So loud that we were unable to hear each other within the same booth. I believe this is a symptom of the open ceiling concept; too bad.
The cod special with mushroom risotto and fried asparagus was outstanding. I hope Charbonos will add fried asparagus to their ongoing sides list.
Great venue for a family dinner. The kids menu was top notch.
We celebrated two family birthdays and everything was handled very well. Great Waiter!
Made reservations for my father’s birthday. He ordered a pork chop but was unable to eat it because it came out rate. My pregnant sister-in-law ordered French onion soup and it was so incredibly salty she, nor her husband, could eat it. The $12 meatball appetizer came with five 1inch in diameter meatballs and 4 tiny slices of cheese bread. Overall an unpleasant experience. The server was phenomenal. Food? Not even close.
I always love going to this restaurant. The food is great - especially the prime rib for me, and the choices are good for everyone. One of my faves is also the bread and oil. The services is great too. Love the fact I can make reservations and not have to wait. I appreciate they offer that through Open Table.
The crispy calamari was hardly breaded and super chewy, my granddaughter could have done a better job on the pizza Redbaron is good compared to theirs.
Had dinner around 9:00 PM. It seems everyone working was more interested in getting their closing duties done rather than serving us our dinner. Probably why they seemed reluctant to seat us in the dining area when we asked. They were out of iced tea, so we had to wait about 10 minutes for that which was not that big of a deal. Each stage of service , bread, salad, and meal seemed to be delayed due to the waitress being more preoccupied with getting things done so she could get out of their as soon as possible just as everyone else seemed to be. It seemed like everyone working in the place was ready to just be done and get out of there. At least the meal was good.
Did not appreciate being seated next to the kitchen, when other tables were available. The whole time was filled with loud noise, dishes clacking together and loud conversation from the kitchen. We had to ask to see the early bird menu as it was not mentioned. When the waitress brought it, she brought 1 copy. We had to pass it around for all to see it. On 1 positive note for the dinner, the food was very good. This was not my 1st visit, But rates as the worst & last visit.
One of my favorite places to dine. Charbono’s never disappoints with great food, service, and a wonderful atmosphere.
Wonderful as always.
We have probably eaten at Charbonos about 6-8 times over the last year. Food is dependably good every single time.
