Located in East Village and housed in the historical Simmons Building along the Bow River, charbar is spearheaded by executive chef Jessica Pelland with the support of co-owners and Top Chef chefs Connie DeSousa and John Jackson. One of Canadas best restaurants partners with Sidewalk Citizen Bakery and Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters to create a collaborative and communal destination. Charbar restaurant features cuts of ultra-dry aged Alberta beef and an ocean wise seafood raw bar, that spills out onto the open air riverfront patios with views of the bow river. At its heart is a custom-made Argentine wood-fired grill honouring the art of asado and the culinary inspirations of Spain and Italy.

A great place to eat. We went for our 1st anniversary and the waitress was amazing for her knowledge about the different sauces and meat plate.
I definitely recommend to go there and experience for the quality and NOT for the quantity!! (you might be disappointed).

The food and atmosphere were amazing. We had a quiet table in the corner as one of my guests was hard of hearing. The service was great and attentive during the duration of the meal. We had ordered the empanadas to share between the three of us, and they were great. We didn't realize until after we had paid the bill that on the cheque, our server had charged us for an extra empanada. Never having been to this restaurant before we didn't know the empanada appetizer came with only two. Although I appreciate the attentiveness of our server of adding a third empanada, it would have been much more appreciated if the server could have let us know about the extra charge before making the decision for us as it felt a little deceitful. Overall a great experience but after seeing the cheque, it left a bad taste in my mouth on the final impression.
Well spaced table in a large open dining area made me feel comfortable with their pandemic procedures. The food was delicious. Service was excellent. Good beer selection.
Good distancing between tables and good health practices. We feel entirely safe and comfortable during our meal. Food was very tasty with very generous portions.

This is a very interesting restaurant located in the East Village Redevelopment area of Calgary. Charbar is located in a former mattress manufacturing plant and the building has lots of character.
It is a big space, lots of places to sit and opportunity to even step outside onto their patio if you want to or in summer to dine on the roof. The location by the river is very nice.
The service is good. Not overwhelming but certainly good and the food is excellent. Steaks are their specialty but anything you order will be of high quality and well prepared. I think the restaurant is a bit pricey, but they are always busy so perhaps that is just my perception. Anyway, if you want an interesting location and a good dining experience, this is certainly one to have on your list.

Service was fantastic and the restaurant ambience was great. I realize it’s a place to go for steak but I wished there was a few more options for a main (I was looking for chicken breast). So many great sides to choose from. The brussel sprouts were delicious
Wonderful night out
Came here for brunch on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy and noise level was perfect. Ordered the chimichurri chicken sandwich and the dish with the Argentine-style empanadas. Both were delicious. We would definitely come back.
This iconic Calgary location is incredible to visit and a true delight to the eyes. We were very excited for our reservation for Brunch here and our server was outstanding. Her presence was warm, helpful and just the right amount of table visits. It felt like a friend was serving us.
The appetizer was outstanding we had the French Toast Bites and they were LIFE CHANGING. Our lattes and mimosas were also very well made. Our brunch dishes all left us a bit disappointed however especially after the drinks and appetizer set the bar so high. We felt as the main dishes were not the best value and collectively all thought the sourdough we all ate was a bit too hard to eat.
We would all definitely go back again to try some of the other brunch dishes and enjoy those amazing French toast bites again.
Overall its a great spot. Pluses for being able to reserve on a Saturday late morning as well.
Amazing service and food. We were greeted at the door by the manager and taken to our table on the 2nd floor. He sent out some champagne for the table since it was a birthday party and everything was amazing. We had a great time. Get the porterhouse!
This place is used to be one of my family's favourite. But food quality is so much lower than before pandemic. Not worth it anymore. Noise level was too much. We understand there was a group of party people at the same time while we were dining. But it was just like a sports pub and that wasn't fair considering their price point. Well, very friendly and nice staff as always.

Service great but the food wasn't out of this world. Still haven't found a restaurant that can cook a steak medium always undercooked.
I wasn’t excited to go when I read the menu online however, the food was amazing. The cocktails were great as well. My only complaint is when I see my food is up and no one is going to pick it up. I had to ask for the fries as well as my desert to be brought over. Other then that it was a great evening.
We have visited Charbar a few times, and every time it seems to get better and better! The food and service are amazing! Would definitely recommend

Living right across the road we often enjoy popping across to Charbar when we want a drink or can’t be bothered to cook dinner! This visit was because we were feeling lazy and it was a good call. We had cocktails (I enjoy the pisco sours), husband is a fan of variations on an Old Fashioned so tried a few. Then we each had the red shrimp and fries which I’ve had before and it was just as delicious this time round. Messy food is always tasty!! Our waiter was very attentive too. Place looses a little bit of the atmosphere with tables being so far apart thanks to Covid but that can’t be helped and certainly isn’t a deal breaker- they’ve done a good job with managing it. Will be back soon I’m sure. Thanks!

Just had a little trouble with menu items and staff knowing what was available due to several menu changes- this is what we were told. Also we had a little trouble with getting the right items ordered ect. I think due to masks and level of noise it was hard for server to hear us. Food was delicious and grateful your establishment was open and able to serve us under these conditions.
Great brunch spot. We were seated outside (spur-of-the-moment) & the ambience was wonderful. Food really tasty—I thought the presentation was a bit haphazard? Wait staff attentive, friendly and efficient.
Asked for a nice seated Area for my anniversary. Got put at single table along entrance way shared with multiple people. Service was slow. 57+ for 7oz steak and Fry's ... Won't be returning

They don't serve the pizza in the restaurant, only on the rooftop unfortunately. We did family style dining with the porterhouse steak, avocado bruschetta, olives, ceviche and grilled sourdough. The food was spectacular. We drank the black pearl cocktail and old fashioned cocktail - the bartender was on point. Our server was patient and considerate when it came to ordering, he made accurate suggestions on everything and checked in just the right amount. Overall great experience!

Enjoyed food and was nice for us to try something new but portions seemed small given the cost, so not the best value. Hard to justify 120 steak given today’s economic climate.
