It was delightful, our waiter was friendly and courteous and funny. His honesty and recommendations were superb. My first time and I love led it .
We had a delicious dinner with friends. We were treating them as a thank you. Our server, Sam, was excellent, as always. We love Char!!!
First time. Had a 7:15 reservation. Waited 20 minutes for a table. Food was excellent. Restaurant very busy. Server never came offering ground pepper. No salt or pepper on table.

Steak was suppose to be medium rare, three times came back raw.

My wife and I had a great time on our date here! The food was excellent and cooked to our liking. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We did not feel rushed at any point during our meal.

My mom, husband, and I greatly enjoyed our Easter celebration at Char-Raritan. The food, service, and atmosphere were EXCELLENT!!! We look forward to visiting Char again in the future and will definitely recommend Char to friends and family. Thank you for an unforgettable dining experience.
My wife and I received the highest level of service. Our waiter was very familiar with every aspect of the menu and made great recommendations for wine. The aged New York strip was one of the best I’ve ever had.
Empty restaurant seated in back room despite request - too many waiters - 4 watching you eat - meat significantly undercooked even when ordering well done - wearing sport coats - 2nd visit - far better options around - waiters way over the top - feel badly for original owner - deteriorated

Char is top notch! From the moment we sat down we had friendly, well-informed and attentive service. The steaks were delicious but they have plenty of options for those who aren’t beef eaters. It is definitely on the pricey side but in my humble opinion worth every penny.
Always top notch food and service. We reserve Char for our special occasion dinning and make an event out of our visit. Cocktails at the bar before sitting down to dinner. Menu never disappoints and the specials are always excellent alternates. Delicious sides and a focused wine list with many high quality options make it easy to enjoy yourself. Better than other local additions to the steak house faithfuls.

Char is an expensive, first-class restaurant that consistently delivers quality food served by excellent staff. This offer a NY-style restaurant ambience in central NJ. We always enjoy the best steaks in NJ here. Tonight we enjoyed the KC strips and filet mignon cuts. The sides are always excellent and we enjoyed a special carrot cake prepared tableside to celebrate our birthdays. Make sure you have a reservation and an appetite as this won't disappoint.
This was my first time there. Given the prices, I was expecting much better quality of food. The service was slow and they got our order wrong. I won’t be returning especially at these prices...disappointed.
Went with my boyfriend and daughter (12) and we all enjoyed out meal.
The steaks here are really top-notch and prepared and served perfectly. We shared a porterhouse for 4 of us and one other chose the bone in filet mignon. The steaks cane with roasted garlic which for me is to die for. We ordered 3 sides..potatoes gratin, asparagus, and sautéed onions. We ate everything and we stuffed. Plenty of alcohol and wine kept the group well oiled and happy. A perfect evening.
We had 2 dishes which we were disappointed with. One was the calamari which was too salty.
When we told the waitress she said she would tell the chef.
The other was a very tough piece of steak which was a special. When we told the waitress she said that's because it was aged.
The waitress never asked if we would like something else.
Also, we were there to celebrate an anniversary - actually 2 anniversaries. We ordered dessert and not even a Happy Anniversary wish.
On the other hand, the other dishes were delicious.
We really wanted to like this place. It's got a great outdoor space and a nice ambiance inside. Unfortunately the food is mediocre. Steaks just had a weird flavor, as if they had cooked them on a dirty grill. The wedge salad was cold and crisp, so that was good. Sides were disappointing: mashed potatoes with very little flavor. Drinks (we had the "Char-garita") were too strong and didn't for the description on the menu. We didn't stay for dessert. If you're looking for a really great steak in NJ, I'd recommend sticking to Roots in Morristown or Summit. Ruth's Chris is also really good despite the fact that it's a chain.
Meat dishes were good. Salmon dish was fair. I expected better for the price.

Very rich food, excellent steaks. A bit loud, but not a big deal.

Unlike my last visit to char, this time it was the complete opposite. Had a fantastic meal that was not overly saturated with garlic. The atmosphere and service were outstanding. Had so much fun that we stayed way past the closing time. No rush from the wait staff either. Would definitely go again.

Great tasting food, excellent service and modern atmosphere. The only steak house worth eating at in a 30 mile radius, bar none.
We had a great experience. Food was delicious and our waitress Isabella was just awesome! She knew the menu inside and out and was able to make really great recommendations and accommodate dairy free options.
Restaurant offered an excellent combination of seafood and steak options. Oyster and tuna appetizers were delicious and cleverly plated!! Can't go wrong with any entrée. Service was excellent. Will definitely be back.
The wait staff was fantastic. Attentive as needed but not hovering annoyingly. Dietary restrictions and allergies were accommodated without hesitation and suggestions were offered without any discontent.
The food was cooked too order and was extremely flavorful and excellently prepared. Portion sizes were filling but not over abundant where you felt compelled to goes yourself.
My only complaint is they do not serve prime rib. That being said the filet mignon was stellar.
Very loud restaurant! Good food but not a place for a quiet relaxing meal.
Overall we were underwhelmed by the food. Our appetizer was very good , but the steaks were nothing special for the prices charged. My first cut in my medium rare steak clearly was cooked medium, especially compared to my wife’s. I sent it back and it came back cut more in the middle to show it was cooked slightly better, but still over cooked in my opinion. Not to argue I ate it, but found it off putting that I sent back a dish and essentially was told it was a bigger cut so the outside may slightly be more done. For a top of the line steakhouse, that is a crock and the chef and the manager should have more pride in a steak they are charging 55 dollars for. Wouldn’t go back knowing for similar price I can get a better steak
Only minor issues was the dining rooms are on the darker side a little bit more light and not so close together to each other table wise would make a great difference would make it a little bit more Cozier
Chair was worn out but the staff was gracious enough to seat us near window so we didn’t complain
