Char Steakhouse - Putnam Valley Ratings and Reviews
Amazing! This restaurant is always top notch and we are so fortunate to live right down the road. Highly recommend their new Sunday brunch. Crab cakes Benedict and pork belly tacos were absolutely incredible! I’m already dying to go back. Nikki, our server, is always a delight. Her warmth and enthusiasm is infectious and you can see she genuinely loves what she does. She is such a rarity and makes every dining experience extra special.
Highly, highly recommend this restaurant!
Met for dinner with friends on a Tuesday night and ordered from the special menu. Everything was delicious and the amount of food and glass of wine you got for the price was outstanding! I would definitely recommend going to Char on a Tuesday night for their special!
Have been at Char several times and each time it is very enjoyable, food, atmosphere and friendly efficient servers make it special. Our last time there was to celebrate our 40 year wedding anniversary. It was 4 adults and our two grandchildren. Our server Michael was the best. Will be going back with friends.
food was very good, but service was bad,was very unhappy with waiter. customers who came in way after us were getting there food served to them,we sat there for 45 minutes waiting to get are dinner, meanwhile everyone else who came in after us were eating theres. i spoke to the waiter his comment was maybe the orderes got mixed up. would not go back again
We have been going to Char Steakhouse during restaurant week for years but the last 4 cycles the restaurant has not been up to the high standards it once set. Food has come out cold, service has been rushed and many patron favorites are no longer on the menu like lobster mac and cheese and the smoked applewood bacon appetizer. We probably will be looking into other restaurants next time.
We went here for dinner during Hudson Valley Restaurant week. The food was great and everyone really enjoyed what they had. The service was a bit slow, I assume due to the large crowd that was there. My only real complaint was the noise level which made it hard to hear our tablemates. You shouldn't have to yell in an upscale steakhouse.
First we started off on a bad note. Stood by the hostess stand for over 10 mins before even being acknowledged. Not sat but just acknowledged. Waiters were staring like we were in there way as we quietly waited for our table that we had a reservation for.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a filet that I ordered medium rare come out so dry. It was actually cooked properly but the meat was dry as a bone. I heard a lot of mixed reviews but the quality of the food was way below par especially for the price. At least at Morton’s you know your steak will always be tender and juicy.
Calamari way over breaded couldn’t tell if they was actually any fish.
Waitress was very nice and timely. Had a smile on and could tell she was a professional. Not her fault the food was awful.
Also clean your sinks. They are gross. Limescale build up all over the place. Grosssssssss
The restaurant was decorated beautifully and the service was so pleasant. We had only been waiting a few minutes for our food and they considered it be long long so they gave use a complimentary glass of wine. We didn’t even think we were waiting long , but it was a nice gesture. The food was great and I would recommend it.
We went for restaurant week, we were beyond pleased. I ordered the empanadas and my husband order the octopus , OMG delicious. We both ordered the surf and turf and were so satisfied. I met friends in the ladies room and they were there for the prime rib dinner, we were all so satisfied.. Dessert I had the almond cake and my husband had the panna cotta and Wow we couldn't believe how delicious everything was.
For the owner - great food and price . Good looking room. Except for waiter Michael and hostess all help were not courteous or friendly. Not once did any staff while waiting on my table say your welcome to any thank you !! Neither did they smile or act professional- just curt and rude. Also, was a 50 th anniversary and did not place candle on desert or acknowledge the special occasion . On reservation and in person they were told!! Also, lower step at front entrance is very dangerous. In addition at night front steps and parking lot not properly lighted. Thank you.
Value with the Prime rib special on Wednesdays-- be prepared however, that the temp of the meat is chefs choice (typically medium) or can order to well done--so if you MUST have it rare or on the rare side order something else so you are not dissapointed---
everything is wonderful!
First the good, food was very tasty and well prepared. Steak portions were ample. Dessert and coffee very good as well. Unfortunately the service did not live up to the prices. First waitress taking drink orders left before taking order from entire table. Long wait for return. Very long wait for water refill. Wait staff not in sight most of time so could not even approach for assistance forcing us to wait for them to reappear. Noise level very high making dinner conversation among the 5 of us very difficult. Unfortunate that more negatives that out weigh the good food.
Always great food and enjoyable experience. Our evening is always extra special with Nikki as our server. She is always attentive to every detail and she is a pleasure to be with. We were family of 5 and all felt she was part of our family..everyone enjoyed their food although the only complaint heard was mashed potatoes to be a bit lumpy....always feels like a special evening whenever dining here.
