Ambiance was fantastic. I just love it.
Food was very good. Duck, Sea bass, Strip steak, Lamb chops. Foie Gras and Ahi tuna. All great. Steak was actually under cooked from what he ordered (medium vs medium rare) but my husband said it was so delicious he did not send it back and that it was absolutely wonderful. We split dessert - smoked chocolate mousse. It was amazing!
The only thing that could have been improved was our server. While fairly attentive was not very relatable and seemed more like he tolerated us. Wish we had Jessica Z.

Delicious food and wonderful service. I'm taking the time to write this review because our experience at Char really stood out and deserves recognition. If you want to spend some extra money on a special occasion, Char is worth every penny.

Down side for us was no gluten free beer and the last few times we have gone the meat my husband ordered was way too salty! And he loves salt but all you could taste is salt.
Resturant was a bit chilly, more heat would have made it More comfortable.
The servers were awesome!

It was my mother-in-law's 75th Birthday and they made the whole experience incredibly special. Our server, Russell, was dynamic and delightful. The meal was well-timed; not too rushed and not too slow. Lastly, the dessert was a perfect ending to a perfect meal. It was just so wonderful and we are very appreciative. Thank you!

Our office birthday lunch was wonderful - great food, excellent service and a candle on the birthday girl's amazing chocolate dessert! We often schedule special office lunches at Char and are never disappointed.

This was our first visit to Char. We made reservations after not being able to get into our regular steak house. Although we were first turned off by the way the restaurant sits in the lobby of the hotel, we were happy to find additional dining rooms that were off the bar and afforded a little more privacy and made you feel a little cozier.
The steak was outstanding and came with a variety of interesting sauces; our favorite was the spicy caper sauce! The cauliflower gratin was also delicious!
Service was attentive and we were overall very pleased with our experience at Char!

The chef was very accommodating with my dietary needs and the service was lovely. However I they sat us in a separate room which had zero ambience and felt like we were in Siberia. Also, very expensive for a hotel restaurant. If there had been some ambience or had more action, I could see trying to justify the price but that just didn't happen. Sorry :(

terrible service. food tasted ok, but I ordered a 1/2lb of crab legs and was given 3 thin, small finger sized pieces of crab.

My fiancée and I had dinner reservations at Char New Year's eve. We also stayed at the hotel that night for the New Year's party in the glass ballroom. We went to the bar and asked for peach schnapps and were told that they did not have anything and the bar maid tried to convenience my fiancée that peach vodka is the same. Much to my surprise a high class restaurant like this did not have peach schnapps. Since this was our first experience at the Strathallen and not familiar with this restaurant I ask the bar made where Char was at in the hotel and she rudely responded that I was sitting at Char! Needless to say I was not impressed at all! We then went to our table for dinner and the table was wobbly and the staff needed to fix it. I would think that the tables would be checked prior to having guests sit down. We then were handed the menu and it was a limited menu that they were offering and when asking our waiter if we could order off the regular menu he told us if we wanted to order off the menu we needed to sit at the bar. When I make the reservations and when they were confirmed I was never told that you were serving a limited menu. Again needless to say I was not impressed!

Overall I was not impressed with the service not the restaurant staff at all!

OK, not great. Overpriced for ambiance and service. For the price of meal I did not expect to "bus" by passing plates over to server. Likewise did not expect to be handed dinner plates as opposed to having them placed in front of me., or sitting in a bar for dinner. I am from out of town and selected this based on OpenTable recommendation for a special occasion. Steaks were flavorful and prepared well, but It was not special; I will not return and do not recommend.

We went with friends for dinner on a Friday evening for a change of pace from our usual routine. We had dinner reservations for 7:45pm and we arrived a bit early for cocktails. Found a nice little area to sit right off the bar, no problems getting drinks from the very busy bar, and even though is was busy, the noise level where we were sitting was not overbearing. We sat for dinner a few minutes before our reservation. Assistant server arrived, introduced himself and provided water, then bread. Waiter arrive and introduced himself, took drink orders and reviewed the specials. We ordered so salads and entrees (various steaks from the grill)and a few sides which we split amount the group. While my steak was cooked perfectly, my wife's was slightly undercooked and a friend's was sent back to the kitchen. The rest of THE Group seemed plead with their meals. All in all the evening was fine, no real complaints.

Sorry to say CHAR was very disappointing. After ordering a red wine ( which was $16 for a glass; granted we did not ask, but perhaps a house wine or even the wine menu could have been offered, ) we three ordered salads and a companion ordered a soup. That came shortly and she said it was fine. But 50 minutes later we waved our server over to table and asked, just what is the problem with our salads? We see 2 other tables that came after us are fully served ( one table of 6). "Oh sorry, I'll check." 5 more minutes and salads were served. My beef tenderloin salad was lame to look at with limp greens and all the meat totally charred . I had ordered medium rare. I told server that it was not satisfactory and to tell the chef and the manager. He disappeared only to bring it ( looked the same) back in a few minutes. Meat was charred and rare on inside. The whole experience continued downhill. Not one apology from anyone until the server brought the check and said, so sorry. Thumbs down on this experience at CHAR at Strathallen. ( Missed taking pictures.;-(

We have been to Char many times for lunch, cocktails and dinner and especially the grand buffet brunch. We were very disappointed to find out there was no buffet. I called on Tuesday by phone to modify our number of guests and no mention of the brunch being discontinued, as were 2 other tables around us. Being December perhaps having the buffet until after the holidays would have been a better plan.
Our server was outstanding and very accommodating but we will not be back for 120.00 breakfast.

Char is always my "go to" restaurant. The service and food is impeccable. I was there for a birthday and ordered a steak, which was cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is moody and trendy. Highly recommended.
