Char Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This years occasion was valentine's Day with 4 other friends. They had a great 3 course menu. We have dined here before and Char always delivers.Quality food, great ambiance and awesome service. If you have not been here, it is one of my favorite restaurants. great date night.
We were there for lunch on a Monday (Martin Luther King day) so it wasn't crowded. The ambiance and food are unpretentious . The service was good and the waitperson was knowledgeable and friendly. On a frigid day, it was good to sit in front of a fire - albeit it gas.
Never leave review but experience was so bad have to. Dined with bf that has dairy and egg allergy. Restaurant did not know ingredients in their food and tried to serve him dishes containing milk. Server admitted that some items (bread, dumplings) were not made on site but shipped in. Claimed shrimp were dairy free but were brought to us battered. Had to send server back twice before he admitted milk in batter. Not appropriate for vegan, vegetarians, or ppl with allergies. On top of this tried to charge us for shrimp.
My Husband and I had a lovely dinner at Char on Friday Dec 15. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the Holidays and the roaring fireplace made it a very relaxing atmosphere. Our food was outstanding. I had the red snapper special and my husband the jambalaya which was a bit spicy but delicious. If you like mushrooms don’t miss the side order of wild mushrooms. Was happy to have a nice dining experience for under $100. Would have given 5 stars but service was a bit slow. Definitely will return.
First time at Char for my wife’s 40th bday and we loved it. Ambience was rustic and warm with fireplace. Food was great. Perfect night for a date or night out with few friends. Met the owner on the way out and it was clear that he takes pride in his restaurant’s. Only slight improvement would be that you could order a glass of wine from the bottles. The glass list could be expanded. And I would replace the chocolate cake ice cream dessert with a chocolate soufflé. Overall, would definitely go back and highly recommend it.
This will be a go to option for me when recommending an interesting alternative in the Greenwich/Westchester area. It is a very cozy scene with a warm and friendly staff. The menu invites one to try something out of routine but not in an intimidating way. I actually would like to try everything on the menu. Tasty wine and the same note for dessert. I leave here happy.
Char is always dependable and consistent. The food and service are always great there, and I I've never had a bad meal there or bad service! The ambiance is cozy with the fireplace, and the noise level is perfect... not too loud, but loud enough to know that everyone is enjoying themselves.
I have been to Char a few times and it’s always a great experience. The food was excellent ( I had a delicious swordfish ) the service attentive and nice. The decor is comfortable and inviting. I was surprised it wasn’t more crowded on a Friday night. I think overalll it’s superior to a lot of other places in the neighborhood and the prices are reasonable. I will be back.
I would want to go back again when it's NOT Restaurant week. It was noisy due to being crowded with a few larger tables filled and loud. The service was very good, very attentive and I had seafood paella which was tasty but unfortunately the shrimp was overcooked and a little rubbery.
So would like to give it another chance on a "regular nite" and see how they do
This was a fantastic find! The service was great. The food came out quickly but it wasn’t so quick that you felt you were being rushed out rather you felt that the meal was paced as it should be. Our waiter Cesar was very attentive, he was great.
We had the roasted Brussels sprouts and the Char grilled octopus as starters. The Brussels sprouts has a nice honey taste but it wasn’t overwhelming. The octopus was perfection the farro was cooked perfectly and the dressing complimented it very well.
We got the zucchini “linguine” and the French onion burger. The zucchini was great, it was a good sauce with a nice, light ricotta on top. The burger was cooked perfectly and the onions were delicious.
For dessert we got the poached apple and the cookie and cream dessert. While the apple was fine, we thought it would have been even better if it were served warm. The ice cream on the skillet cookie was delicious and it is definitely a dessert you can share.
Definitely on my list of restaurants to visit when I️ come back home.
Food was decent - not great. First we were offered a seat almost on top of the hostess stand. Then the manager discouraged us from ordering desert and offered a drink at the bar to get up. We had been seated for about 75 minutes. Did not leave with a great impression.
The food and service were excellent. There were many gluten free options so my wife was able to enjoy her birthday dinner without getting ill. We had some great apps and steaks (very tender) and the wait staff was very friendly. The restaurant is beautiful and the experience overall was great. There were even a bunch of gluten free desserts including a warm chocolate cake.
