We were here for dinner and it happened to be St. Pattys Day. We sat down right away, there were 6 of us, and service was excellent and the food is amazing. We started with brussel sprouts, and duck fat fries. For entree they had a chicken Boxty that everyone ordered and raved about it. I had the burrata citrus salad and it was divine.
Our meal was unique and very good. I had the octopus and shrimp ceviche as well as the Brussel sprouts, which worked really well together. My husband got the chicken and brought most of it home, as he shared my meal.
The service was prompt and friendly. On Tuesday, Happy Hour runs all night and the pours were generous.
It was a bit of a drive, but we'll be back.
Great service, great food, good location, good ambiance!
Only issue - I made reservation through OpenTable and noted that we were celebrating a special occasion birthday but this was not noted by restaurant nor did they ask during service. Not sure if this is on OpenTable or restaurant issue.
Went to try out the restaurant for restaurant week and had some really good food for a great price. I had the tomahawk pork chop which was amazing.
What a fun place to get Happy Hour drinks and bar food! Supper service!
We came because of restaurant week. We are glad we did. The menu choices were different - which is what we look for. Everything was delicious.
The service was great and we tried all the appetizers on the menu. The mango martinis where spicy and tasted great.
Myself, my wife and daughter had dinner at Chapter One for the first time and the food was amazing. Our waitress, Lindsey, was great too. The Tapas style small plates were perfect for sharing. Their Brussels Sprouts were some of the best we have had anywhere from New York to Miami to LA. The Shrimp Taquitos, Salmon Rilletes and Korean Street Tacos... muy delicioso.
The service, food and wine were all very impressive and we will be returning to this place right in the heart (neighborhood of the Arts) of downtown Santa Ana.
If you’re looking for a fun place to have brunch, definitely go to Chapter One. The food is great and the service is AMAZING. Our server, Abner, went above and beyond. Easily one of my favorite restaurants.
The overall experience was good. Only one tiny comment regarding sisig fries. It really wasn’t authentic sisig. It was more like pulled pork fries. Other than that. Everything else was good.
We were a little early for our reservation. However, the very nice hostess seated us right away. Our waitress could have not been any better. She was very pleasant and attentive. We ordered three different things to share. All three were very good! We highly recommend Chapter One.
Had a beautiful valentines dinner, with my wife we were fortunate enough to sit at the table by the fireplace.
French onion soup was fantastic as well as my salad with Steak.
My husband and I went for our 4 year anniversary! The food was so delicious, as always and our waiter was nice and very attentive. We love dining there!
Everything was pretty good just thought it was a bit pricey for what we received. A company party was happening in an adjacent room, so that resulted in slower service and louder noise then we wanted. The beer list was great though!!!
We arrived and stood by the host desk for 10 minutes before someone helped us. Once we were seated things went pretty fast. The drinks here are excellent but the food in my personal opinion looks good but due to lack of seasoning it is not rememberable. We had the mac and cheese with chicken, and two salads one with beef medallions and the other with shrimp that looked and taste as if they belong in a shrimp cocktail glass. Usually people grill the shrimp also the waiter told us the shrimp would be grilled.
Went to brunch thos past sunday with 6 friends..food was excellent, 11.00 bottomless mimosas with juice flight..service great too
Came in for weekend brunch. Bottomless mimosas - my glass was never less than half full. The crab cake Benedict was delicious as was the poutine. Abner was fantastic.
I didn't feel OpenTable adequately portrayed this tester aunt.
Brunch was LIT, entertainment was on point! Nothing like a black rabbi singing his heart out to you 👌🏼
Sunday brunch...had reservation and was seated promptly. Very loud inside, waiter frenetically trying his best to serve without appearing too harried. Had the SAS (southern style chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy), was just ok. Not enough gravy on rock hard biscuits, no gravy on the steak which was breaded and fried with little flavor. Disappointing. Also had the crab cake benedicts which was tasty. The potato hash on the side was flavorless and overcooked, like potato croutons. A little salt and pepper could have elevated the flavors, but since there's none to be found on the tables, one can only assume the proprietors think their food cannot be improved upon. Sorry to say, it just ain't so.
It was a great time and the food was delicious, as always. I was sad to see, however, that the duck fat fries had changed. They changed companies and now they are simple shoestring fries, whereas before they were thick and delicious.
This experience was bad at first. Made a reservation well in advance, called and spoke to someone twice prior to reservation to make sure we had outdoor seating due to noise level inside and I was told they’d take note of this and make sure to have a table ready for me on Sunday. Sunday came along and the manager on duty said she saw the note left behind where I requested outdoor seating but let me know that she wouldn’t be able to accommodate due to lack of chairs (keep in mind, I see chairs being occupied by customers purses). After someback and forth and NO apology or alternatives from her, we get a booth. I have someone I assume was a waiter come to my table where I explained my situations and frustrations over what had just happened and he was AMAZING! He reparatedly apologized for something that was not his fault and that was greatly appreciated. He offered me a complimentary shot, since it was my birthday, and a Bloody Mary on the house, as well as a feee desert. He was great and knew how to treat a guest! And even if he wouldn’t have provided any free things, the fact that he offered a sincere apology and offered alternatives to the seating was so great! Food and brunch were great like always! But he definitely was what made the experience pleasant! Wish I would have cought his name! He is the only reason I choose to come back to chapter one, after the awful experience with the manager! Every one should be taking notes from him!
My mom wanted to try somewhere new for her birthday and this was a great choice. She wanted a REALLY early dinner so we made resevations for 5 pm. We parked in the structure across the street but it looks like there's parking behind the restaurant too. They validated parking for us, so no worries. The service here was spectacular. We were seated right away. Super knowledgeable wait staff and everyone is friendly. Cozy atmosphere. The artichoke spaghetti is delish. Other people in our party also gave top marks to the mac and cheese, steak salad, and the fries. Clever and tasty cocktail options. Very Instagram-ready presentations. We'll be back!
easy parking, lots of seating, service/food/drinks were ok (nothing stood out)
Great food and service! Friendly staff and a really good menu!
New job celebration
Our first visit. Good service and a nice vibe to the place. We were with a party of five ladies on our way to a revival at the Frida Cinema, and we enjoyed the wine and ambience. I was thrilled to be able to order vegan spaghetti that was actually delicious, and not like an afterthought. Thank you, chef! I would come back for that reason alone.
Food was great but service was the worst. It took about 20 min after seating is before we were asked if we would like something to drink. We had already gone up to bar but that service was slow as we’ll because bartender was doing shots and talking to friends on the other side of bar. 10 min after asking us for drinks they finely as if we would like to order them It took 45 min to get out meal . I would not recommend and I will never go back to this place.
I have been coming here since they opened. The food and drinks are amazing! It's always a good time at chapter One👍🏼
Brunch. Get the S.A.S. Chicken fried steak and biscuits. Put it inside you.
Food took forever to come out, it was mediocre. Expensive for burgers and fries.
Pork & Pinot special event - amazing wines paired with phenomenal food. Always outstanding!
We were here for an event called Pork & Pinot! Pinot wines paired with various dishes that included pork. The chef is an amazing artist that uses food to compliment the wine or vice versa. I am so sorry not to know the.cjefa name but I am willing to say on record he is one of the best and most progressive chefs in the OC. I've been to many wine dinners at fine dining restaurants but this chef is great! Thank you for a lovely evening of great food and good wine!
Food was great, service was slow, and the over all vibe was loud. I had been here on a Sunday for Sunday brunch and if I EVER go back it will be on a Sunday not a Saturday again. I don't like having to spend extra for the parking because they ran out of validation stickers for the parking structure across the street. It was especially upsetting because my friend had called earlier that morning to confirm our parking ticket would be taken care of but surprise surprise when it's time to go they so easily say oh we're out of stickers until Monday.
Chapter One is a personal favorite of mine. Everyone is friendly and accommodating and the drinks are excellent. My girlfriend and I go at least once a week and we feel comfortable spending our money there more than anywhere else. We have built relationships with bartenders and servers and those relationships have gone a long way. I brought my family in recently for two straight weeks and they loved everything from the food and drinks to the ambiance. Rabbi Blue has become a friend of ours from our time there and its just a wonderful place.
First time dining here. A great urban vibe. Great cocktail list but minimal wine choices. The menu offers intering small plates, burgers, and large entrees. Generous portion sizes and a friendly, attentive waitstaff to serve them. Noise level is high, tho. We thought the food was well prepared. Only negative was the ahi ceviche was WAY too spicy. I am very comfortable with spicy fare, but this was much too much, and ended up not finishing it. Would definitely go back to this restaurant.
Lunch menu used to be far more interesting with a dozen or more main dishes. Options on this occasion were half that. The Philly I had (they don't call it that) was far below the quality of food that I have had at Chapter One on at about a eight other lunch occasions. The sliced beef was overcooked/tough and the cheese was no better than the nacho cheese you get at ballparks. I suspect they've had a business downturn for lunch and have had to cut back. Sadly, I'll take this restaurant off my business lunch options list.
I have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed it very much. However my group of 7 could hardly hear each other because the noise level was so high. The restaurant was extremely busy the evening we were there including a special group event that was right behind our table. I would recommend asking ahead of reservations whether there are any special events going on at the time you plan to dine.
Went here with my boyfriend for my birthday. It was definitely worth the drive up!!!
Had a delicious time at chapter one Sunday brunch. Bottomless mimosas and included Peach pineapple strawberry and of course orange juice. Make sure you go on Sundays as you will enjoy the antics of Rabbi Blue who along with this accompanist Serenade a multitude of different songs and makes you the star of the brunch.
