Chaplin's Restaurant & Bar is a 1930's style Japanese Ramen House and cocktail bar. Chaplin's Executive Chef and Partner, Myo Htun, is originally from Burma, but was cooking ramen in Japan at a young age. Myo received a blessing from his mentor in Japan after nearly 30 years of cooking in Japan, to come to America and continue to showcase his authentic Ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine. Chaplin's Restaurant demonstrates the aesthetic of a bustling ramen house in Japan in the 1930's silent film era. There is also a large outdoor dining area that is dog friendly. Chaplin's is located in the heart of the Historic Shaw neighborhood. And it is open until last call 7 days a week. Chaplin's received a Plate certification in the Michelin Guide in 2020. The food was generally delicious but the wait staff seemed to be short staffed (we had to do bulk orders on refills and dessert as our waitress had tables in all sections of the restaurant). It was also quite pricy (~45$ for one ramen, dessert, and tap water).

I dined for my birthday dinner with 10 friends and we had excellent service, drinks, and food. The staff accommodated my friends’ dietary restrictions and even surprised me with ice cream and lava cake as a birthday gift. We have a lovely time!

As always the Chaplin ramen was delicious. We also love the Bao buns and dumplings injected with whiskey! During Chappy hour you can get 1/2 priced drinks from 4-7 which is really great!

Went here for my Husband's birthday and lets say, he CANNOT wait to come back. Since it was restaurant week, we all got the special with an appetizer, entrée with up to 3 add-ons, & dessert. We all enjoyed our meal. The waitress was informative and nice. The only complaint - it was hot in the establishment. We informed our waitress and she stated the air conditioner was not the best.

Visited for Summer 2023 Restaurant Week. The service was great and the food was delicious up until dessert. The chocolate lava cake was dry and not very chocolatey, plus my ice cream was halfway melted. Other than that, the food and drinks were tasty and it was a great deal for three courses.

We were first "greeted" by a host, who wasn't welcoming at all. She didn't even say hello or smile when we came in. It was my birthday dinner and I was expecting a good experience, but our first impression wasn't anything near okay. Now to the seating, our table was so wobbly so we asked that we could move to a different table, the server was very accommodating with our request and moved us to another table, which was still a little bit wobbly. So I guess they need to work on their table settings. Now, the food was alright. I ordered the vegan ramen, which wasn't hot, just warm. The taste of the broth was little hard to describe, it was a bit plain for me. The noodles was average, nothing to talk about. I think it's fair to say this place this a fusion and not very authentic as the chicken katsu came with smashed potatoes instead of rice (Japanese food served with smashed potatoes?). The kimchi was ok as well. I'd stick to my store bought kimchi instead. Overall, the experience didn't meet my expectations.

To kick off our culinary adventure, we decided to try some appetizers, and what a treat it was! The standout among them was undoubtedly the Pork Gyoza. My husband, who is quite discerning about gyoza, proclaimed them the best. They were perfectly crispy outside and bursting with savory, juicy goodness inside. We'll be ordering these every time we visit Chaplins. As for my main course, I stuck with my go-to order, the Chaplins Asian Sweet and Spicy. I'm delighted to report that it lived up to its reputation. The broth was an exquisite balance of sweet and spicy, warming my palate with each slurp. The noodles had the ideal texture, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. It's comforting to know that although Chaplins offers a diverse menu, they consistently excel in their signature dishes. This visit was extraordinary as it was the first time I brought my family along. To my delight, they were as enamored with Chaplins as I am. Watching my husband savor every bite of that gyoza and seeing my children happily digging into their ramen bowls was a joy. Chaplins have won over my entire family, and I couldn't be happier. Justine was and is PRISTINE!!! I will be sitting with her every time! Very well rounded from her beverage knowledge to if you need a new hair color to what is the hottest events in the city!! Thank you so much for making sure I was comfortable while on crutches! First time eating out and I felt normal and supported from my feet to my stomach! We will be back! 🫶🏽🙌🏾 I’ve come to Chaplin plenty!! No one has ever stood out or made me remember them. Thank you for making dinner an experience and not just a fulfilling bite to eat! The manager was so graceful and welcoming even with a pipe that was leaking onto the main floor. Couldn’t even tell anything was going on or being fixed whiling arriving or dining in!

Chaplin's is absolutely amazing. I took my husband here to celebrate his birthday. We easily found street parking. We were greeted warmly at the door and seated immediately. The decor is great. We loved the theme and the old Charlie Chaplin silent movies playing on the projector. Our server was friendly and attentive. He provided great insight on the menu and suggested some delicious bites. All the food was perfection. We ordered the Limelight Guava Daiquiri for drinks, Chaplins buns and fried pork gyoza for appetizers, the Miso and Shoyu ramen our meals, and the chocolate lava cake for dessert. We've found a new favorite and will definitely make ourselves regulars.

Chaplin is a regular go-to for great ramen. Lots of options, and lots of add ins to add to your ramen. If you’re like me and like your ramen loaded with lots of stuff (to include bok choy which Jinya doesn’t offer) you will like Chaplin.

I chose this restaurant because I was diagnosed with celiac within the last two months and have had a hard time finding gluten free Asian food. Based off the design of the menu online, it seemed like there were four gluten free options on the menu as the section is named “vegetarian/vegan/gluten free.” When my server came to the table, I informed him that I had a gluten allergy and he told me that there was only one gluten free ramen on the menu and I told him there are four listed on the website. He checked with someone and came back and told me that there was in fact only one GF ramen. I showed him the menu on the website and the four choices listed there which he told me were a MIX of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options. I understand that my server does not design the website nor the menu, however, if I had not told him I had a gluten allergy, I would have ordered a different ramen from that section of the menu because it’s presented as a gluten free section. I pointed out to my server and I do hope the restaurant hears me: eating a vegetarian or vegan diet is a CHOICE, eating a gluten free diet is NOT A CHOICE and should not be lumped in with optional dietary restrictions. The layout of the menu puts people with celiac disease at risk for gluten consumption which will cause an allergy reaction that takes serval days, if not weeks, to recover from. On the app, Find Me Gluten Free, Chaplin’s has 1 star. The reviews were all from a while ago, so I figured I’d give the restaurant a shot, however I did end up disappointed. This restaurant has plenty of options and a nice ambiance for those who do not require a gluten free diet, however, for those with celiac, this restaurant unfortunately does not offer much. The ambiance and service at the restaurant were lovely, however, for people with celiac, I would not recommend.
